Centric takes majority stake in Dutch fintech Twelve

Twelve, the leading Dutch FinTech company specialized in point-of-sale (PoS) and order management in the foodservice and hospitality sector, today announced its acquisition by Centric, a prominent IT software and services provider.

Centric, together with investment vehicle Spacetime, will support founder and newly appointed CEO Willem van Kralingen in strengthening Twelve's service offering and accelerating its European growth strategy.
Leader in PoS for the foodservice and hospitality sector
Initially focused on amateur sports clubs, Twelve developed a cashless payment and order management solution easily operated by volunteers on weekends. Underpinned by its user-friendliness, speed and reliability, Twelve successfully expanded beyond sports clubs and now serves large stadiums like the Johan Cruijff Arena, major events such as SAIL Amsterdam and leading caterers like Sodexo. Together with its focus on smaller quick service restaurants, Twelve has become the go-to provider of point-of-sale and order management software for the foodservice and hospitality sector in the Netherlands.
Accelerating European expansion
Currently, Twelve is processing more than 700 million transactions a year in a wide range of establishments. 'We have grown into the market leader in the Netherlands', says Willem van Kralingen, CEO at Twelve. 'Our 15 years of experience together with the added expertise and network of our new partners make us uniquely positioned to expand across Europe starting with Germany, France, Italy and the UK. We already service major stadiums in two of those countries, such as Stade de France and San Siro.'
Investment for strategic growth
For Centric, the acquisition of Twelve enhances its portfolio of retail software solutions. While Centric has traditionally held a strong position with its software solutions in the food, non-food, and logistics sectors, Twelve adds an innovative dimension to retail technology with its PoS solutions tailored to the foodservice and hospitality sector. More than 1,400 solar panels have been installed on the roof of Prestwick Air Traffic Control Centre, marking a significant milestone in NATS' aim to be a net zero company by 2035. An aerospace firm has taken a giant step on the road to becoming a carbon zero company - by installing solar panels on their Ayrshire HQ. Ayrshire Live previously told in November how NATS Prestwick were given the green light to generate a chunk of their electrical needs from solar energy. ‌ Now more than 1,400 solar panels have been installed on the roof of Prestwick Air Traffic Control Centre, marking a significant milestone in NATS' aim to be a net zero company by 2035. ‌ The array went live on 28 April and has already generated over 128,000 kWh of renewable electricity - and expected to deliver around 600,000 kwh annually. The Prestwick Centre provides vital air traffic control services across Scotland, northern England and out into the North East Atlantic to more than a million aircraft per year and will receive approximately 10 per cent of its total electricity needs from the rooftop solar panels. Having already reduced electricity use across all NATS sites by 40 per cent since 2006, this marks the first phase of an extensive renewable energy rollout at the Prestwick site. The second phase, a ground-mounted solar array, is currently under construction following planning approval earlier this year. This will add nearly 800 extra panels, projected to generate a further 400,000 kWh of clean electricity per year. NATS has progressively increased its annual procurement of renewable electricity since 2018/9 and together with other emissions reduction targets it has been recognised as one of Europe's Climate Leaders for five years running by the Financial Times & Statista, topping the list in 2024. This special report names just 600 European companies that have achieved the greatest reduction in their Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions. ‌ Ian Lane, Carbon Manager, NATS, said: 'This is a big step forward in our plan to reduce indirect emissions from electricity use which makes up around half of our overall CO2 emissions. The results in the first month alone show the real potential of on-site renewable energy generation.' This was the second large-scale solar installation by NATS. In July 2024, 2,600 panels were fitted to the roof of its Swanwick air traffic control centre in Hampshire, producing 590,000 kWh of renewable energy so far. By the end of 2025, installations across roof, ground and adjoining land will take the count to 12,000 panels, generating up to 21 per cent of both centres' energy. Ian continued: 'While the solar installations are a vital part of our energy transition, we are also focused on improving overall energy efficiency and removing gas from our operations. This is an essential part of our transition to becoming a carbon negative company by 2040.'

Ardgowan Distillery in Inverkip is to formally opened today by Kate Forbes, Scotland's Deputy First Minister, as its first casks are filled since building concluded earlier this month. Founded in 2017, the firm is led by Roland Grain, whisky entrepreneur, and Laura Davies, distillery manager, who together spearhead an expert team with a combined experience spanning over seven decades in the whisky industry. (Image: Getty Images) Featuring a sweeping Scandinavian longhouse design and 97 per cent recycled aluminium roof, the distillery has its sights set on producing top quality whisky and striving for carbon neutrality. Ms Forbes said: 'This is a significant moment for the region's economy, with investment and job opportunities set to boost local communities. 'Scotland's whisky industry is a pivotal contributor to our positive global standing and provides great economic benefit, adding over £7 billion to the UK economy and generating £5.4bn in exports alone. 'I congratulate the team at Ardgowan for the dedication they have shown on this journey and I wish them every success as they enter the next phase of their operations.' Following eight years of development, planning and construction, it is the first new distillery to open in Inverclyde for over a century. The firm said that, until now, the last distillery to operate in the region was destroyed in the Greenock Blitz. The first casks are filled. (Image: Ardgowan Distillery) Mr Grain said: 'After a lengthy build, the team and I are thrilled to now be in full production and filling casks with our own distillate, including private casks for our Clan Ardgowan members. Ardgowan's ultimate goal is to revive the golden age of Scotch whisky with long Sherry cask maturation in European oak. 'Our commitment to quality is demonstrated by investing millions of pounds in our bespoke Infinity Casks years before the distillery was built. Producing whisky is all about time and patience, so, as we fill our first casks and the Deputy First Minister opens the site to the public, we look forward to steadily perfecting our Single Malt in the years to come.' The Ardgowan Distillery's visitor centre is planned to open later this summer 'with various experiences on offer, catering for whisky novices and connoisseurs alike'. 8,000 new jobs to be created Around 8,000 jobs could be created in an Aberdeenshire town over the next decade as £1 billion is set to be invested into energy transition projects.
