Brentford identify highly rated coach as first-choice Thomas Frank replacement
Brentford want first-team assistant coach Justin Cochrane to replace Thomas Frank, if he remains at the club. Frank is set to be appointed by Tottenham Hotspur and is trying to persuade the highly rated Cochrane to join him in north London. Advertisement Cochrane, 43, arrived at Brentford in 2022 to become their head of coaching, and in March joined Thomas Tuchel's backroom staff at England. Brentford, who also looked at Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna, believe Cochrane is ready to take the next step in his coaching career and succeed Frank - in what would be his first lead role at a senior side. The former England youth international was previously head of player development at Manchester United and has held numerous coaching roles within youth development at England. Frank is set to replace Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham after the club moved to dismiss the Australian after he won the Europa League but finished 17th in the Premier League. Advertisement Frank, 51, has been at Brentford for seven years, taking the club from the Championship and establishing themselves as a Premier League side. Brentford had considered a move for McKenna after Ipswich's relegation from the Premier League but they believe the 39-year-old has bigger aspirations within the Premier League. 'Time at the club is now done' – Mikel names Chelsea ace who needs to 'move on' this summer
'Time at the club is now done' – Mikel names Chelsea ace who needs to 'move on' this summer John Obi Mikel has admitted he was really excited about the arrival of Christopher Nkunku, but insists the Frenchman needs to leave this summer. Chelsea are expected to once again be busy in the window and have already completed the signing of Liam Delap from Ipswich, with more new faces expected to follow. Advertisement The Blues face a critical window and could look to add another striker, but they are also in the market for a centre back and right footed attacker. John Obi Mikel claims Nkunku needs to leave this summer Whilst incomings are important outgoings are also vital for the Blues and they need to move on a number of players who are now surplus to requirements. Nkunku falls into that category and despite high expectations following his £52m move from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023 things simply haven't worked out. The France international has struggled with injury problems, but when on the pitch he simply hasn't performed to a high enough level, whilst he doesn't suit Enzo Maresca's system. Nkunku has almost certainly played his final game for Chelsea. (Photo by) Nkunku attracted interest from Bayern Munich in January and Mikel believes the 27-year-old needs to leave this summer. Advertisement 'Christopher Nkunku should also be a source of goals, but to be honest I think his time at the club is now done. I genuinely think he needs to move on,' he told Give Me Sport. 'There was a lot of hype about him when he joined from Leipzig. I was so excited when he arrived, but his time at Chelsea hasn't panned out well.' Nkunku has almost certainly made his last appearance for the Blues and his record currently stands at 17 goals and five assists in 56 appearances. Hugo Ekitike a target Whilst Nkunku will likely leave, the Blues are looking to bring in another forward and have been strongly linked with Hugo Ekitike. Iowa baseball star earns Perfect Game All-American honors
Iowa baseball star earns Perfect Game All-American honors After a stellar junior campaign with the Hawkeyes, Iowa baseball ace pitcher Cade Obermueller has been named a Perfect Game third-team All-American. The left-hander is the Hawkeyes' first All-American honoree since Brody Brecht and Keaton Anthony earned it in 2023. The Iowa City, Iowa native earned the third-team All-America distinction after going 5-3 with a 3.02 ERA in 15 starts. He posted five quality starts and fanned 117 batters over 83.1 innings. His 117 punchouts rank second all-time in program history for strikeouts in a season. The highlight of Obermueller's 2024-25 season was his complete-game performance at Northwestern on March 4. In that game, he recorded a career-high 12 strikeouts while giving up only one hit, one run, and one base-on-balls in a 12-1 Hawkeyes run-rule win. Obermueller's third-team All-American honors add to his growing list of accomplishments from the past season, which now includes a 2025 All-Big Ten Tournament team and an ABCA/Rawlings NCAA All-Midwest Region first-team selection. While Obermueller could be in line for more honors following the conclusion of the 2025 College World Series later this month, a potential return for his senior season with the Hawkeyes could be vital to the program's success as they hope to return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2023.
