DPCC urges Delhi public to report firecracker use
'In compliance of Hon'ble Supreme Court of India order dated November 4, 2024…Government of NCT of Delhi has issued direction under Section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act 1986 on December 19, 2024 for imposing complete ban on the manufacturing, storage, selling (including delivering through online marketing platforms) and bursting of all kinds of firecrackers in NCT-Delhi throughout the year with immediate effect..' the public notice mentioned.
The notice said that non-compliance will result in legal action, further urging people to report violations through the government's noise pollution grievance redressal and monitoring system – ngms.delhi.gov.in, through the government's 'Green Delhi' application, helpline number 155271 or the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) - 112.
'The SC has asked for maximum awareness to be created on the ban. This notice is part of that exercise to regularly spread awareness on the same,' a senior DPCC official said.

After noting that Sushil Kumar required surgery due to a torn ligament in his right knee, the Rohini District Court granted him bail. On a personal bond of ₹1 lakh and two sureties of the same amount, he was permitted to be released between July 23 and July 30. The trial court in October 2022 framed IPC charges, including murder, criminal conspiracy, intimidation and rioting with a deadly weapon against Kumar, aside from the Arms Act, among others. The trial court noted that after being abducted and brought to the stadium, Sagar Dhankar was severely assaulted by several accused persons with baseball and hockey sticks. In his bail application to the high court, Advocates R.S. Malik and Sumeet Shokeen, representing Kumar said that he had been in jail for three and a half years. Citing the extended incarceration and the slow progress of the trial, the high court granted him bail.

Three arrested with 112 rolls of banned Chinese manjha in Delhi
New Delhi, Aug 13 (PTI) Delhi Police arrested three men and recovered 112 rolls of banned Chinese manjha during separate raids in the national capital ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, an official said on Wednesday. The accused have been identified as Yogesh, a resident of Rohtak in Haryana, Harsh and Rajiv, both from Delhi, police said. Acting on a tip-off, police recovered 27 rolls of manjha, which is prohibited under notifications issued by the Delhi government in 2017 and 2020, from Jagdamba Stationary, a shop owned by Yogesh in Uttam Nagar, a senior police officer said. In a separate operation, police arrested Harsh from Block 18 Park in Trilokpuri. He was allegedly found carrying a bag containing 25 rolls of Chinese manjha, the officer said. He told police that he procured the material from a local youth named Raman. In the third case, police arrested Rajiv from Uttam Nagar and recovered 60 rolls of manjha from his possession, the officer said. Three cases have been registered under Section 223(b) (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant provisions of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986. Further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain, the officer said. Hailing from Baprola, Delhi, the 42-year-old Kumar's story is replete of dizzying highs and treacherous nadirs that has tarnished his sporting legacy. Here is a look at the timeline of Sushil Kumar's journey from the akharas of the Chhatrasal Stadium to his Olympic glory and a murder case that has blemished his career achievements. 1997: A 14-year-old Sushil Kumar joins the Chhatrasal Stadium's akhara, which was started in 1988 by his former coach, now father-in-law, Satpal Singh. 2003: Sushil participated in the Asian Wrestling Championship held in New Delhi, clinching the bronze medal in 60kg freestyle category. In the same year he won a gold medal in the freestyle category at the Commonwealth Wrestling Championships in London. 2005: Kumar featured in the Commonwealth Wrestling Championship in Cape Town and won the gold medal in 66kg freestyle category and bronze in the 66kg Greco-Roman category. 2006: Won gold in the 2007 Commonwealth Wrestling Championship in London in 66kg freestyle category. May 23, 2021: Following the incident, a massive manhunt for the Olympian was launched. He managed to evade arrest for 18 days by traveling through Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Haryana. Delhi Police eventually captured him in the Mundka area of the city. Kumar was apprehended while traveling on a borrowed scooter to collect cash from a national-level athlete. October 2022: A Delhi trial court formally charged Kumar and 17 others with several crimes under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including murder, rioting, criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, and robbery.
