No need for more laws to curb offensive remarks
'Anyone who intentionally commits any act, incites or issues any statements that threatens racial and religious unity, may be investigated and prosecuted (under existing laws),' he said.
He cited laws that could be enforced under the Home Ministry and the Communications Ministry, namely the Penal Code, the Communications and Multimedia Act, the Sedition Act, and the Printing Presses and Publications Act.
'The ministry is of the view that there is no need to create a new law on this,' he said during Question Time in Dewan Rakyat yesterday.
Between 2023 and July this year, Aaron said the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had identified 11,967 content that were 3R-related (religion, race and royalty).
'Out of that amount, a total of 7,673 items have been taken down,' he said .
Aaron said the prerogative to take action on 3R content would come under the Communications Ministry through the MCMC.
'While the National Unity Ministry does not have direct enforcement powers, we play an important role through a reformative approach, intervention, mediation and awareness to address sensitive issues involving religion, race and statements filled with hatred,' he added.
Aaron said his ministry was monitoring 3R statements through the National Community Complaints Network System (Rakan), where complaints would be channelled to the relevant enforcement authorities for immediate action.
Besides that, Aaron said the ministry had a Unity Issue Management Committee which covers 12 ministries and agencies to coordinate action on issues that could affect unity.
'There is also the 'Cakap Baik-Baik' campaign, which aims to educate the people to be more courteous when communicating online,' he added.

GENERAL KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 (Bernama) -- Less than 12 hours after the tabling of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), the Communications Ministry will hold a briefing session tonight for the MADANI Community and National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) managers to explain the plan's implementation to grassroots policy drivers. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the online session will involve 1,878 MADANI Communities and 1,099 NADI managers nationwide. He said the session is important to ensure that the efforts and initiatives of the MADANI Government are understood and widely disseminated to the public. 'We believe that by supporting the MADANI Community and NADI managers in spreading the government's efforts and intentions, the people will ultimately benefit. Fahmi, who is also the MADANI Government spokesman, said the 13MP, themed "Melakar Semula Pembangunan" (Redesigning Development), reflects the ideals of the MADANI Government under the MADANI Economy framework for the 2026–2030 period. 'We take into account and understand the various opportunities presented by megatrends as well as existing domestic challenges. The 13MP aims to address all dimensions, including economic sustainability, people's well-being, environmental conservation and the strengthening of governance,' he said. He added that the 13MP also focuses on advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), with hopes of positioning Malaysia among the world's leading AI-driven nations within the next five years. Fahmi said the Communications Ministry will focus on developing the creative economy ecosystem and strengthening digital infrastructure through MyCreative Ventures and the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS), particularly in the animation industry. KUALA LUMPUR: The Communications Ministry will hold a nationwide online briefing session tonight for over 3,000 participants to explain the government's initiatives under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP). Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the session would involve 1,878 members of the Madani community and 1,099 managers of the National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI). "The aim is to ensure the government's efforts under the Madani administration, through 13MP, are clearly understood by grassroots movers on the ground. He added that the ministry would continue its outreach efforts in the lead-up to the tabling of the 13MP next year to foster greater understanding and support for national development plans. Meanwhile, Fahmi said one of the targets under the 13MP was to expand Internet access nationwide and make it more affordable for the people. He said the government was committed to ensuring that the Internet is safer, especially for children and families. 'Govt offices must play National Month song'
PUTRAJAYA: All government offices must play this year's National Day and Malaysia Day theme song Malaysia Madani Rakyat Disantuni. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the "catchy, melodious and pleasant" song would ignite the spirit of the National Month. The song is composed by Datuk Mokhzani Ismail, arranged by young composer Affan Mazlan and performed by Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin. "I feel this year's theme song is truly magical and extraordinary. The song has also caught the attention and praise of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who said it was 'really, really good'," he said during the Communications Ministry's monthly assembly here yesterday. Present were Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching; Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin and Bernama editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj.
