Three weddings in one Northampton street after lottery win
Three couples who live on the same street have vowed to get married after a six-figure lottery win.They were among eight winners who collected a share of £1m in Kingsthorpe, Northampton, after their postcode was selected in the People's Postcode Lottery.One couple who got engaged 11 years ago will finally tie the knot, while another will have the wedding they missed out on because of Covid.Local charities will also get payouts from the lottery.
The lottery's Millionaire Street draw involves ticket-holders in a selected postcode area receiving a share of a £1m prize.Three of the winners in the postcode area of NN2 8RU said they would use their £125,000 to arrange long-awaited weddings.Nathan Brown, 35, a professional referee, originally proposed to his childhood sweetheart Jade Dunkley, 35, back in July 2014 at an Eminem concert. He said: "We both work really hard. I work three jobs, so this is just an incredible amount of money."Ms Dunkley said: "It's maybe about time we got around to a wedding."They plan to tie the knot in Jamaica.
Ashli and Cory Wise's wedding in 2020 was not the big occasion they had been planning.Ms Wise, 38, said: "We got married on the first day that we were allowed to have 15 guests for a wedding, and we literally just had a tea party in our garden. And everyone had face masks on."We can have a real wedding reception, and we can take our children away on our honeymoon."The couple were also planning to buy a bigger house to accommodate their three young girls.Mr Wise, 34, said a new house would be "life-changing for us".
Jamie Holden, 33, a motor mechanic, said he "couldn't remember" pulling out the cheque presented by the lottery.He added: "It's a blur. I've never seen that sort of money ever."He got engaged to Laura Fullthorpe, 34, four years ago, and the couple have four children between them.He said: "We can now buy a bigger house to be a proper family in. And then we'll have a proper wedding."Northampton Hope Centre, which helps homeless people, will get £100,000 as a result of the lottery win.Northamptonshire Association for the Blind will receive £50,000 and Springs Family Centre will collect £25,000.

The jackpot had rolled over to an estimated £208m, after Tuesday's £199m draw - which also would have been a record-breaking amount - had no winners. Arrgh you joking? Tesco pensioner stuns shoppers by bringing his pet PARROT with him to buy groceries
On a balance of probabilities, parrots are more likely to be spotted walking the plank than walking down the ready meals aisle of a major supermarket. But that was exactly the scene that greeted one customer, who was left stunned after spotting a pensioner with a colourful parrot perched upon his shoulder in his local Tesco. Named Bella, the 12-year-old exotic bird prompted the stunned man to capture his unusual encounter on video. Posting the footage to X, the astonished man can't help but exclaim, 'That is something unbelievable. Oh my God,' as he spots the red-and-green macaw. 'See the parrot, man, in Tesco,' he continues. After approaching the otherwise unperturbed owner, the man says: 'How are we uncle, you OK? Lovely parrot, man. How old is it?' After being told the bird is aged 12, the curious bystander asks whether the bird speaks. 'She does when she wants,' replies her owner. Parrots mainly eat seeds, fruits, blossoms, buds, leaves, berries, nuts and sometimes bark - and do indeed enjoy the occasional cracker as well.
