Should you buy a Ring doorbell in the Amazon sale? Here's our advice
If you're in the market for a Ring smart video doorbell, Amazon's ongoing Spring Sale event has given you some cut-price options to consider.
Several Ring doorbells are at heavily discounted prices, and there are even bigger discounts on bundles of a Ring doorbell with an accessory such as a chime or speaker, with up to 40% off the total RRP in a few cases.
The deals expire at 23:59 on Monday 31 March – so there's not much time left to decide whether to buy a Ring video doorbell on discount.
As a tech journalist, I've tested several smart security products, including Ring video doorbells. Here are my thoughts on whether you should buy a Ring doorbell today – are Ring's deals any good, and is a video doorbell right for you in the first place?
The Amazon Spring Sale has brought some hefty discounts on Ring video doorbells, with many devices now at significantly reduced prices.
If you've been thinking about installing a Ring doorbell to secure your property, now would be a smart time to buy. I don't expect to see better discounts until Amazon Prime Day or Black Friday, when even bigger savings are likely.£59.99 at amazon.co.uk
For the classic Ring user experience with up-to-the-minute functionality, you can't currently beat the Ring Battery Video Doorbell (2024 release). This iteration builds on previous flagship models with longer battery life, colour night vision, head-to-toe view of your visitors and a bundled-in removal tool to help with recharging the device.

A video doorbell is at its best when you have a chime to go with it (or a smart speaker like the Echo Pop, which can act as a chime).
In one of the most generous doorbell deals, there's 43% off this bundle of the Ring Battery Video Doorbell with an Echo Pop smart speaker – so you can get everything you need for your new security setup for £82.98 (RRP: £144.98).
If you'd rather pair your new Ring video doorbell with a Ring Chime, you can buy the equivalent bundle for £69.99 (RRP: £129.98).
As a tech writer, I've tested several Ring video doorbells – and in general, I've been impressed. Home security products can be complicated, but Ring makes things simple with easy setup, seamless Alexa integration and an app that actually works (most of the time).
With that said, Ring isn't perfect. For example, one big downside to Ring's video doorbells is that certain features such as long-term video storage, person alerts and rich notifications are paywalled. To access your doorbell's functionalities at their best, you'll need to subscribe to a Ring Protect Plan, starting at £4.99/month.
If you're not convinced about Ring, there are some other very good video doorbell brands out there with discounts live for the Prime Big Deal Days event, each with its own pros and cons.£64.99 at amazon.co.uk
Eufy Security has always been a fine budget option – and that's truer than ever, as the Eufy Video Doorbell C210 with Chime bundle has been discounted by 35% to £64.99 (RRP: £99.99).
This system has some advanced security features that would suit buyers who take a thorough approach to safeguarding their home. For example, voice recordings from the doorbell's two-way talk function are saved directly onto an SD card in the wifi-connected chime.£29.99 at amazon.co.uk
An even cheaper option is the Blink Video Doorbell, which sits alongside the Ring range in Amazon's portfolio of security brands. This highly capable budget doorbell is 40% off at £29.99 (RRP: £59.99) and features everything most users will need, including two-way talk, weather-resistance and good battery life.
Video doorbells are a great solution for buyers who want to be upfront about securing their property and communicating with visitors on the doorstep – whether they be friends, family, couriers, or trespassers.
However, one alternative option to consider is installing a smart security camera system instead. Mounted close to the doorway, smart security cameras can make a relatively subtle addition to your home – at least compared to a video doorbell, which stares your visitors right in the face when they arrive at the door.
At my home, I've set up a security system featuring an audio doorbell (with no camera) linked to a wall-mounted camera. The idea is to make the property safer without making guests feel awkward on the doorstep. Several outdoor security cameras have been discounted in this event, including the Blink Mini 2, which has 40% off at £17.99 (RRP: £29.99). This brilliant little security camera has two-way talk, so you can still use it to chat with visitors when they arrive at your property.
Whether you choose a Ring doorbell, a competitor's video doorbell, or a different type of product such as a wifi security camera, the Spring Deal Days sale is likely to give you the best price you'll find this side of Black Friday.
This sale concludes at the end of the day on 31 March – so you've still got time to get a heavily discounted Ring video doorbell.

Will Blue Chip UPS Deliver for Shareholders?
UPS has been mired in a multiyear slump as demand trends have weakened in its core markets. The company is also undergoing a restructuring that threatens to curtail near-term growth. For patient investors willing to bet on an economic recovery, UPS is a solid investment choice at these levels. 10 stocks we like better than United Parcel Service › United Parcel Service (NYSE: UPS) is one of the dominant names in shipping. The company operates a sprawling network of planes, trucks, and distribution centers, shuffling e-commerce buys to their destinations and providing supply chain transportation. In 2024, UPS delivered 5.7 billion packages. But for all its strengths UPS has failed to deliver for investors of late: The stock is down more than 50% since the beginning of 2022. Here's why UPS has underperformed, and why it can be a long-term winner from here. Shipping is a great business when demand is strong, but there is little UPS or any competitor can do to boost revenue when demand for its services is weak. During the pandemic, when consumers couldn't go to the mall, the need for UPS' services skyrocketed. Investors were ready for a drop-off as stores reopened, but in the years that have followed a combination of rising inflation and concerns about the health of the economy have caused UPS' corporate customers to cut back on restocking inventories. UPS is not sitting still waiting for the economy to rebound. The company is on track to take out about $3.5 billion in annual costs by year-end, including consolidating its distribution network and cutting about 20,000 jobs. Most of those gains will show up in the second half of the year. The company hopes to offset the lost Amazon business with higher-margin specialty deliveries, including healthcare and other temperature-sensitive products that need customized trucks and delivery centers. In April, UPS said it would spend $1.6 billion to acquire Andlauer Healthcare Group to expand its Canadian healthcare delivery footprint. Cyclical stocks like UPS can be frustrating for investors because there is little you can do other than ride out the cycle. In this case, the patience is warranted. UPS has been around for more than 100 years, meaning it has a track record of weathering shipping downturns and coming out stronger. Though the restructuring will take time and come at the expense of near-term growth, UPS' transition away from Amazon and toward higher-margin transport should benefit the company over time. Fortunately, investors can get paid to be patient. UPS has either maintained or increased its dividend in every year since going public in 1999, and at current prices it currently offers a yield of more than 6%. UPS is well positioned to capitalize when the economy recovers. Buying the stock today is a bet that the U.S. economy will rebound and improve over time. When it does, look for UPS to accelerate.
