Storm Center PM Update: More Chances for Frost and Rain
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — It has been a much more quiet day across KELOLAND with winds decreasing and little activity on radar. After some beneficial rain, it was nice to see the sunshine return with slightly warmer temperatures.
The cloud cover and winds will continue to stay light to the east for tonight and allow temperatures to drop into the 30s. More clouds will hang around in western South Dakota with a chance for spotty showers.
While West River had the cold weather alerts last night, that has shifted to East River. Frost and freeze conditions are possible from tonight and through tomorrow morning.
Our eyes will turn to the low pressure system moving into the central and northern plains tomorrow. Clouds will increase across KELOLAND with showers and isolated thunderstorms moving into West River.
More widespread rain is expected by Monday and is going to continue into the middle of the week. By Wednesday, many of us could see an extra inch of rain, while an extra 2 to 3 inches is possible in southwestern South Dakota. This would help out with the extreme drought conditions in that area.
Once the low pressure system moves out, we will try to warm back up towards more seasonable temperatures for next weekend.

Wildfire Near San Bernardino Mountains Prompts Evacuation Orders
A wildfire that started on Tuesday afternoon north of the San Bernardino Mountains had exploded to 2,000 acres by nighttime, driven by high winds and low humidity, officials said. It had prompted evacuation orders and was threatening multiple properties, officials said. The vegetation fire was threatening multiple buildings in and around Apple Valley, a town of about 75,000 people about 60 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Firefighters were battling to contain the blaze, which was zero percent contained on Tuesday night. The San Bernardino Sheriff's Department issued an evacuation order for an area about four miles wide on the edge of the town, warning of an extreme threat to life. A number of ranches appeared to be within the evacuation zone. The fire broke out at about 2:30 p.m., according to Cal Fire, and its cause was under investigation. 'Fire behavior has intensified due to shifting weather conditions, including increasing winds and low humidity, contributing to rapid fire spread,' Cal Fire said in a statement. The area was experiencing wind gust of about 22 miles per hour on Tuesday night, according to the Weather Service.

Travel advisory issued as Steuben County cleans up flood damage
HAMMONDSPORT, N.Y. (WETM)— Cleanup efforts are taking place in Steuben County after excessive flooding and rainfall caused damage to the community. Community members say that the flooding came fast with little time to prepare. 'We had an overflow from the culvert across the street, which was quite sudden, and I was blocking doors and trying to redirect the water from coming into the house,' said Daniel Bronk, a Hammondsport Homeowner. Boating restricted on Southern Tier lakes after severe storms 'First, I got a tornado alert on my phone, and I realized the big storms are coming,' said Kim Smith, a Hammondsport homeowner. Hammondsport has experienced storms in the past, but many in the community have never seen this much flooding. 'We've had some pretty good storms, but this is the first one where it completely breached and came over the roadway,' said Bronk. Safety officials say that they are doing their best to keep people safe. Canadian wildfire smoke impacts Southern Tier air quality 'Today we're just basically working with our highway departments our emergency first responders, to try to make sure that the roads are cleared from the debris and open from the traffic,' said Tim Marshall, Steuben County Director of Public Safety. A travel advisory is still in effect, and public safety officials are asking people not to travel to the affected areas. 'Right now, the basic thing that we're trying to advise folks is to try and allow those road crews in there and get their work done, don't go out, don't sightsee today, it's not the day to be out there, kinda looking around,' said Marshall.
