ABU DHABI (WAM)The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Grappling World Tour concluded on Saturday at the Mubadala Arena in Zayed Sports City, featuring hundreds of athletes from over 50 countries. The event was organized by the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro (AJP) Federation.Elite competitors in grappling and ground fighting competed fiercely, with the UAE topping the overall standings with 31,000 points, followed by Brazil with 30,600 points, and Russia in third with 19,000 points—highlighting the impressive progress of Emirati athletes.Emirati champion Khaled Al Shehhi claimed the gold medal in the professional division after a series of decisive matches, showcasing his physical prowess, technical skill, and tactical intelligence on the mat. Tareq Al Bahri, General Manager of AJP, attended the finals and presented the awards.Khaled Al Shehhi commented: 'This achievement is the culmination of years of relentless effort and the immense support from our wise leadership. Winning such a prestigious title here in Abu Dhabi is beyond words. The competition was tough, with opponents from diverse grappling schools, but my determination and readiness were decisive. This gold is a significant milestone in my career, and I look forward to achieving more on the global stage.'Pouya Rahmani, a standout in the heavyweight grappling division, also earned gold after a string of impressive performances through the elimination and final rounds. He said: 'Competing in AJP events always feels special. It's organized at a world-class level and attracts the strongest competitors. I sensed I was performing in front of an audience that truly values this sport, which gave me a crucial motivational boost. "The organization was flawless, the referees top-tier, and the conditions perfect for delivering my best. I thank the organizers for this remarkable event and look forward to returning to Abu Dhabi for future championships.'

World champion Al Mulla carries Team Abu Dhabi hopes in Indonesia
14 Aug 2025 00:42 ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)Emirati champion Rashid Al Mulla, from Team Abu Dhabi of the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, will take part in the opening round of the Aquabike World Championship – Freestyle category, set to be held on Lake Toba, Indonesia, on August 16 and Al Mulla takes to the waters for the Pro Circuit World Championships, a three-day Endurance class event will be the focus and held from Wednesday to Mulla is ranked among the world's top athletes in this category and has previously claimed the world title six times, in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2024. The scenic, volcanic lake venue holds special memories for Al Mulla as well, with Lake Toba having hosted last year's final round and in which he was in outstanding form to score a perfect 147 competitions will be held in Balige, on the southern edge of Lake Toba, and are a familiar fixture from previous years of racing. Rider registration will open on Thursday with racing taking place on the weekend, bringing a close to Aquabike racing in Indonesia for a third successive year.

The announcement of the council's formation coincides with International Youth Day, affirming its commitment to the directives of the wise leadership and in line with its forward-looking vision to empower Emirati youth and support them to become future leaders in various fields. His Excellency Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of Sports, announced that the establishment of the Youth Council within the Ministry of Sports represents a strategic step towards strengthening youth participation in shaping the future of national sports, reflecting the Ministry's confidence in the vital role young people play in achieving excellence and sustainability in this sector. His Excellency stated: 'The announcement of the Council coincides with the celebration of International Youth Day. Its formation reflects our commitment to investing in the energy and creativity of young Emirati men and women and to providing institutional platforms that enable them to take part in decision-making and contribute actively to the development of our sports ecosystem, in alignment with the objectives of the National Sports Strategy 2031 and the 'We the UAE 2031' vision.'
