The Maharani of Baroda, is one of the most admired royal figures in India today. Often compared to the iconic Gayatri Devi of Jaipur, Radhikaraje Gaekwad is known not just for her timeless beauty and elegance, but also for being deeply rooted in both tradition and the modern world. She's quite active on social media, where she shares glimpses of her life that reflects a graceful blend of heritage and modern-day living.
Recently, Radhikaraje voiced her thoughts on how Indian royals are still being wrongly shown in films and television. Talking about a series called The Royals , she pointed out that the way royals are portrayed hasn't evolved much since India's independence. 'People still think we spend our lives in huge palaces, dressed in pearls and chiffon all day. That image is outdated,' she said.
She added that many members of former royal families today are engaged in real work some are politicians, others are entrepreneurs or involved in meaningful social causes.
Inspired by her father, she always took her education seriously. She studied Indian History at Lady Shri Ram College in Delhi, and before becoming Maharani, she even worked as a journalist with The Indian Express. She once recalled how she used to travel on public buses during her college days, just like any other student.
In 2002, she married Maharaja Samarjitsingh Gaekwad of Baroda, a former cricketer. The couple now lives with their two daughters in the magnificent Laxmi Vilas Palace. This palace, known as the largest private residence in India, is four times the size of London's Buckingham Palace and even bigger than Mukesh Ambani's Antilia. It is valued at an astounding Rs 25,000 crore.
The palace boasts 170 rooms, lush gardens, a horse stable, a swimming pool, and even a private golf course. Built in 1890 by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III, its construction cost was approximately Rs 25 lakh at the time (equivalent to £180,000). The main architect was British engineer Major Charles Mant.
Radhikaraje's journey is a reminder that being royal today means more than just holding a title. She represents a new-age royalty that embraces both tradition and progress with dignity and grace.

UP CM directs officials to take action against fake, shell companies
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday directed officials to take action against shell companies to stop the attempts to misuse the facilities meant for genuine traders. While conducting a high-level review of the State Tax Department, the CM directed officials to ensure transparency in tax collection and adopt a policy of technological efficiency and strict enforcement. "Tax evasion is a national crime that negatively impacts development plans and welfare schemes," he said. Stressing that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a consumer-based tax system, he noted that areas with higher population density are naturally expected to generate more tax revenue. He instructed officials to develop special strategies for zones where tax collection is below average. Adityanath directed that information on suspicious firms registered under Central GST (CGST) be shared with the Centre for cancellation of their registration. For firms under State GST (SGST), he ordered in-depth departmental investigations, and if irregularities are found, their registration should be canceled and FIRs lodged. The CM emphasised the need for on-site inspection of all newly registered firms, stating "fake companies should not be allowed to obstruct the rights of honest taxpayers. CM Adityanath said that such acts are an attempt to misuse the facilities meant for genuine traders, which is unforgivable. Such inspections are essential to ensure that genuine businesses can operate fairly and without interference," he said. During the meeting, officials informed the CM that Rs 18,161.59 crore in GST and VAT had been collected during April and May against the financial year 2025-26 target of Rs 1,75,725 crore.

Following the meeting, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the British foreign secretary strongly condemned the Pahalgam terror attack while Modi underscored the need for a decisive international action against terrorism and those who support it. 'Appreciate his substantive contribution to the remarkable progress in our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, further strengthened by the recently concluded FTA. Value UK's support for India's fight against cross-border terrorism,' the prime minister said in a social media post. Modi described the recent conclusion of the India-UK free trade pact and double contribution convention (DCC) as a 'strategic milestone' that will unlock potential of the partnership in diverse sectors, according to the MEA. It said the prime minister conveyed his warm greetings to his UK counterpart Sir Keir Starmer and reiterated the invitation for his visit to India at the 'earliest mutual convenience'. 'We practise a policy of zero tolerance against terrorism and expect our partners to understand it, and we will never countenance perpetrators of evil being put at par with its victims,' he said. It is understood that the Indian side explained India's challenge of dealing with cross-border terrorism emanating from Pakistan. The UK was among countries which were in touch with both India and Pakistan in an attempt to de-escalate their tensions during their military conflict from May 7-10. Lammy paid a two-day visit to Islamabad from May 16 during which he welcomed the May 10 understanding between India and Pakistan to stop the military actions. After the meeting, the British foreign secretary said: 'We are advancing a new era in UK-India relations — boosting trade and technology, tackling the climate crisis and providing greater security for our people.' In his remarks, Jaishankar described the recent conclusion of the India-UK free trade agreement and the double contribution convention as 'truly a milestone which will not only propel our two-way trade and investment but will also have a positive effect on other strategic aspects of our bilateral ties'. Circular rail network on Bengaluru's outskirts to cost Rs 81,000 crore
Bengaluru: The proposed Circular Rail Link Project on Bengaluru's outskirts requires an investment of Rs 81,000 crore and acquisition of 2,500 acres of land. Spanning 287km, the double-line circular network will connect Nidavanda, Doddaballapur, Devanahalli, Malur, Heelalige, Solur and other peripheral towns. It aims to decongest rail traffic in the city's core areas and cater to residents on the outskirts and nearby districts by enabling more suburban rail services. On Saturday, minister of state for railways V Somanna held a meeting with MPs from Bengaluru and adjoining districts to discuss the project. The railway board sanctioned a final location survey (FLS), which is currently being conducted in phases. The minister said the central govt will fund the entire project. "This is a long-term initiative meant to benefit Bengaluru over the next 50 years," he said. The actual land requirement and cost will be finalised after the detailed project report (DPR) is ready. Completing the FLS is expected to take several months. Camelaram, Panathur works Bangalore Central MP PC Mohan submitted a requisition to Somanna, urging South Western Railway (SWR) to coordinate with BBMP to expedite pending RoB and RuB works at Carmelaram and Panathur. He noted that only 35% of the Carmelaram RoB is complete, causing prolonged closure of Carmelaram-Gunjur Road and affecting commuters. Similarly, the Panathur RuB is stalled due to BBMP's delay in acquiring land needed for the approach road and drainage. Need superfast train to Mumbai: Mohan Mohan called for a superfast train between Bengaluru and Mumbai, pointing out that the current Udyan Express takes over 20 hours. Despite repeated public requests, the railway board hasn't approved a faster service, he said. On the redevelopment of KSR Bengaluru City Railway Station, the MP said the proposal is pending with the railway board. He urged Somanna to initiate a feasibility study for a rapid rail transit system (RRTS) on key corridors such as Bengaluru-Tumakuru, Bengaluru-Ramanagara, Bengaluru-Mandya-Mysuru and Bengaluru-Kolar.
