Fact Check: No, Melania Trump did not win lawsuit against 'The View' for $900M
First lady Melania Trump filed and won a $900 million lawsuit against daytime talk show "The View."
Rating:
In February 2025, a rumor that first lady Melania Trump won $900 million in a lawsuit against daytime talk show "The View," and specifically co-host Sunny Hostin, circulated online. The alleged reason for the lawsuit was comments Hostin made regarding Melania Trump's marriage to U.S. President Donald Trump.
The claim originated as a video on YouTube posted on Feb. 1, 2025. That video received more than 278,000 views as of this writing. A three-part video of the same footage then appeared on TikTok, where it received more than 3.8 million views collectively.
However, Melania Trump did not file a lawsuit against Hostin. The claims that she did were fictional, designed to gain views and spur reactions online.
The fictional video spread to other accounts on YouTube and X in slightly altered forms, garnering hundreds of thousands of views. Many users in the comments appeared to believe the claim, while others expressed skepticism.
One YouTube video voice-over claimed: "Sunny Hostin, in her usual smug, self-righteous style, decided to psychoanalyze Melania on live television. She claimed, without a shred of evidence, that Melania hated her husband, Donald Trump, and only stayed with him for financial gain."
Hostin has made headlines for real comments she made about the Trumps' marriage on "The View." For example, in an October 2024 episode in which the hosts discussed Melania Trump's stance on the overturning of Roe v. Wade, Hostin said, referring to the first couple, "I think she hates him."
A Google search for the terms "Melania Trump," "lawsuit," and "The View" only turned up results regarding the false claim. No credible news outlets have reported that such a lawsuit exists.
Asked about the claim, a spokesperson for "The View" told fact-checking site Lead Stories via email: "This is not true."
While some of the accounts that shared the video included disclaimers in the video description clarifying that the content shared may not be true, others did not, despite the claim being misinformation.
The clips used in the original Feb. 1 YouTube video were real footage that the video's creator edited and arranged to appear as evidence of the false claim. For example, the part of the video in which Melania Trump says "you need to defend yourself all the time" came from a 2016 interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper.
Some elements of certain posts, such as the editing, voice-over and description of a Feb. 2 YouTube video, suggested the content may have been at least partially generated using artificial intelligence (AI) software. The video included a watermark crediting AI editing and voiceover software CapCut.
The description of that video also contained inconsistencies that a human writer was unlikely to make. For example, it claimed Melania Trump sued for both $900 million and $100 million and contained the hashtag "#MelGibson" although there was no mention of the actor in the video.
Melania Trump did win around $2.9 million in a 2017 settlement with the Daily Mail, which had falsely claimed she "provided services beyond simply modeling" before marrying Trump.
However, there was no evidence that she filed a lawsuit against "The View." For this reason, we rate this claim false.

Medicube Turmeric Overnight Wrapping Peel Off Mask — it uses hydrolyzed collagen, vitamin C, and turmeric to help improve elasticity and even out your skin tone. Apply this K-beauty gem at night and you'll, quite literally, get your beauty rest while you sleep. Peel it off in the morning and admire your fresh new face! A set of lightweight ruffled pajamas that are equal parts cuteness and comfort *with* an affordable price tag to boot. Bend 'em into any shape you want and they'll stick to surfaces without leaving behind sticky residue or stains. Parents swear by these for keeping kids occupied on planes and in restaurants. E.l.f. Glow Reviver Melting Lip Balm if you'd rather not splurge on Laneige or other expensive brands to get the lippie look of your dreams. This tinted, moisturizing balm is similar to the buttery, buildable glosses you know and love but won't break the bank! Now that deserves a round of applause. 👏 An *expandable* quilted tote made of durable, water-resistant fabric that's perfect for travel as well as everyday use. It also has a padded laptop compartment, two side pockets, front and back pockets, *and* a pass-through strap when you carry it with your luggage. Like I said, hall of fame! It never hurts to have ✨options✨ and you won't find a better bang for your buck. An easy-to-use D'alba Piedmont spray-on serum infused with Italian white truffle extract and vitamin E if you can't resist a product that gets you one step closer to the ~~glass skin~~ look you've been chasing. Spritz some on at the start of your beauty routine to prep your skin OR use it to set your makeup and prevent caking. Where's the trophy?? 🏆 A thoughtful ceramic face vase you'll probably fall ~head~ over heels in love with as soon as you see it. Whether you're team fresh or faux flowers, this is a fun, quirky way to add a bit of character to your space. Lottabody's Coconut Oil Foaming Curl Mousse — people are obsessed with this all-in-one solution that helps add volume, define curls, *and* manage frizz. You'll be armed and ready to beat the heat and humidity that's waiting just outside your door. No wonder it has such a huge fan base (42,000 5-star ratings, to be exact)! A pair of "Archies," that offers — you guessed it — superb arch support in the form of a lightweight sandal that seamlessly molds to your foot while supporting its natural shape. It's made of closed-cell foam for a personalized fit with plenty of cushioning. People with flat feet, fallen arches, *and* plantar fasciitis swear by 'em. A set of realistic-looking faux fern plants when you're longing for some greenery but have been cursed by a black thumb. They'll liven up your space without the responsibility of actually keeping something alive. Let's face it, these lookalikes are VERY good at their jobs. A deep exfoliating shower glove for wiping away dead skin cells in a matter of minutes. It'll help soften and brighten the skin, but reviewers also love it for reducing bumps and irritation from keratosis pilaris! You can also use it before getting a spray tan *and* to help remove a fading one. A dainty gold-plated station necklace from the popular jewelry brand Pavoi. It'll work with just about any 'fit that requires a hint of ~quiet luxury~ but without breaking the bank! It's super similar to the real diamond versions from high-end brands like Quince and Dorsey, which go for $400+, btw. A surprisingly cheap *and* chic wide leg petal pant, which checks so many boxes (pockets, elasticized waist, breathable, versatile), you might think you're hallucinating at first. These are more reasonably priced than the high-end versions, and you can wear 'em to lounge, run errands, or for an impromptu coffee date! A clear, stadium-approved crossbody bag if you'll be attending numerous festivals and events that have super strict bag requirements. It has plenty of space for the essentials, like your phone, credit cards, lip balm, keys, etc. You won't have to worry about being turned away at the door after waiting an hour in line. Phew! A squishy NeeDoh Ice Berg, a giant sensory fidget toy from the same geniuses who made the reviewer-beloved Nice Cube and the Dream Drop toys. Anyone who loves having the ability to *SQUEEZE* something at any given moment will love this! Plus, it's super smooth and won't pick up debris like the sticky ones do. A Lululemon-esque longline sports bra you can wear while lounging, exercising, and everything in between. It's both comfy and supportive, so you can wear it solo OR as a base layer depending on what activity you'll be getting into. Reviewers say it's just as good (if not better) than the pricey version so it def belongs in the hall of fame of workout tops! A double-sided brush because no matter how hard you scrub that gunk-filled fork with a boring sponge, it's just not gettin' the job done. This will get into every crevice of your dirty utensils so you can be done with the dreaded task much sooner. It's basically the crème de la crème of cleaning tools! L'Oreal Paris Infallible 3-Second Setting Spray Mist — you'll shower it with praise because it *actually* delivers on its promises. It even compares to the $34 version from One/Size but at a much more reasonable price. This ultra-fine spray is light and airy but still powerful enough to set your makeup and keep it in place for up to 36 hours (no, that's not a typo). No more creasing, caking, or flaking for you! A pretty beauty organizer with two spacious drawers that'll look absolutely stunning on your vanity or bathroom counter. The top section can hold taller bottles, and it even has side handles so you can easily transport it from room to room if your get-ready routine location varies based on lighting, mood, and various other factors. A truly divine santal rosé candle to fill your home with the earthy scent of sandalwood and the subtle scent of rose blossom! Whether you're curling up with your next mystery read or descending into a glorious bubble bath, this candle is the only thing missing. Sol de Janeiro's Jet Set, aka travel-size versions of the products the internet can't stop raving about: the skin-tightening Bum Bum cream, the Cheirosa '62 hair and body mist, and the Brazilian Play body wash. It's a great gift AND it's a genius way to try all three before deciding whether to buy the full-size products! You're about to smell like bottled sunshine. ☀️ Peach Slices acne spot dots, which use hydrocolloid to suck the gunk out of your zits overnight while keeping 'em protected. This may also help prevent face picking *and* scarring. They're quite similar to the famous Mighty Patch version but you get more bang for your buck, so it would be downright rude to gatekeep 'em. A delightfully flowy skort that pays for itself several times over because it can be styled so many ways — it's practically begging you to hit "add to cart" already. Plus, what's not to love about a cute skirt with comfy shorts underneath? This one deserves endless recognition, if you ask me. A pair of waterproof KitchenAid oven mitts — they're made of soft, ribbed silicone that'll protect your hands from hot pans and dishes while you're cooking up a storm! They're heat-resistant up to 500 degrees and the 100% cotton cuff provides additional protection from the heat. SkinSmart Facial Cleanser Spray you'll wish you stumbled upon a lot sooner in life because it addresses acne-causing bacteria without robbing your skin of its beloved moisture. It's about to become your next staple thanks to its ability to instantly refresh your skin any day. An adorable diaper caddy with sturdy handles and removable Velcro dividers to ensure no baby supplies are ever left behind. Heck, it's so spacious that you'll even be able to fit some of your stuff in there. Plus, many reviewers say it makes an excellent baby shower gift, especially if you load it up with parenting essentials.

"'P' As In 'Pork": Dermatology Office Leaves Chaotic Voicemail
A woman named Hailey Giamarino is going viral for sharing a very ~interesting~ voicemail she received from her dermatology clinic. In her TikTok, which has nearly 6 million views, Hailey shares herself, then gets right into the voicemail that was left. It starts out very normal, and what you would expect. A woman very sweetly and professionally introduces herself, then says, "I was giving you a call to go over the bacteria culture that we did here in the clinic the other day. So, the culture came back as a bacteria called Pantoea species," she starts. Now here is where things begin to go a bit off the rails. The woman continues, "And that is spelled 'P' as The phone then goes silent, and you can hear whispers and giggling in the background, and someone repeats back, "PORK?!" Finally, the woman leaving the voicemail gathers herself and continues, "'A' as in 'APPLE,' 'N' as in...'NEW.'" She then can't contain her laughter any longer and breaks out in giggles again (likely over her "pork" comparison, or maybe because she realized that "new" can also be spelled "knew," lol). She composes herself once more and keeps going, "I'm so sorry. Okay, 'T' as in, um, 'TREE.' 'O' as in 'ORANGE'..." She rushes to continue before her giggles return, "'E' as in 'EARTH.' 'A' as in 'APPLE.' So, um, Amanda wanted to know if you had—," then the woman can't hold back anymore and goes full on into a laughing attack. However, much to our surprise, the woman collects herself enough to resume the voicemail, asking about a drug allergy. It appears she got at least some of the rest of the information across before ending the call, but the whole thing is hilarious. You can listen to the whole thing here if you would like. It is obvious that everyone thought the voicemail was too funny. So funny that some were peeing their pants laughing. Pregnant or not! It is just that iconic. The conversation also segwayed into the realization that not many people know the phonetic alphabet. So, if you didn't know, the phonetic alphabet is the set of specific words used to stand in for letters when you're speaking, especially in situations where it's really important to be clear, like in Hailey's voicemail. Many people, like TikToker @ are sharing it because they did not know it even existed. It appears most people just think of a random word when they have to spell something out over the phone. So people are sharing the hilarious examples they've used in the comments. Like "B" as in "BURP." And "B" as in "BAKED BEAN." "U" as in "UNDERWEAR." Or how about "U" as in "UTERUS." "P" as in "POLLY POCKET." And "P" as in "POTTY." "S" as in "SQUIDWARD." "J" as "JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH." You've got "T" as in "TOILET" and "P" as in "PAPER." As well as "T" as in "TYRANNOSAURUS REX." "V" as in "VELOCIRAPTOR." "F" as in "FELIZ NAVIDAD." "L" as in "LOVE" and "N" as in "NUGGET." There's also "E" as in "EYEBALL." It is all really funny, but then it becomes clear why specific words are used. Because, even though one person above got "E" right for "EYEBALL." It can be very easily confused with "I" accidentally. Same with "Q" as in "CUCUMBER." "H" as in "JALAPENO." "Y" as in "WYOMING." And "L" as in "ELBOW." Then there are even more confusing words like "T" as in "TEA." "B" as in "BEE." And "P" as in "PNEUMONIA." There are even some people out here just confusing the heck out of everyone with things like "TB" as in "TUBERCULOSIS." There are also worrisome words like "O" as in "ORPHAN" and "K" as in "KILLER." Essentially, panic mode just sinks in, and the first word that comes to mind is what comes out, like "O" for "OZEMPIC. People have also shared their hilariously unfortunate phonetic spellings in videos, like TikToker @nickfromohio. This is how he spelled out "breakfast" one time: And now we are asking ourselves one thing: WHY IS THIS NOT TAUGHT IN SCHOOL?! BuzzFeed spoke with Hailey, who said she actually received the voicemail back in 2024 and didn't even listen to it at first. "I was signing up for a gym membership when I noticed a call from my dermatologist's office. I couldn't answer, but they immediately called back, so I picked up. Cat (the girl in the video, aka pork girl) gave me my results directly — no mention of a voicemail." She then said it wasn't until about two weeks later that she noticed the unusually long voicemail saved on my phone. "When I finally listened, I realized I'd been sitting on one of the funniest messages I'd ever heard without even knowing it," she said. And the next time Hailey went into her dermatology office, she brought it up to Cat, and the two laughed about it all over again. "I told her I'd already shown my friends and family because it was too good to keep to myself." We also attempted to get in contact with Cat to tell her how legendary we think her voicemail is, but we were unable to. So, Cat, we just want to say thank you for providing us with some much-needed humor. Lastly, Hailey admitted that she, herself, does not know the phonetic alphabet. "I always thought the phonetic alphabet was reserved for military people or the poor souls trying to pronounce last names correctly over an airport intercom." So, below is the phonetic alphabet again for reference... ...However, we still think it is funny to just keep making up your own words.
