Chappell Roan Misses No. 1 For The First Time In Her Career

Months after its original release, Chappell Roan's single 'The Giver' returns to charts around the world. The song was recently issued on vinyl and sold tens of thousands of copies globally. That surge in purchases, which were counted once the title shipped to customers, helps it reappear on a handful of rankings in the United Kingdom, while also debuting on several others. In multiple instances, Roan just misses out on turning 'The Giver' into a No. 1 smash.
'The Giver' Debuts at No. 2
This week, 'The Giver' appears at No. 2 on half of all the U.K.-based charts on which it lands. The track debuts in second place on the Official Physical Singles list, while reentering the Official Singles Sales tally in the same position.
As it jumps back onto the ranking of the bestselling tracks in the country, 'The Giver' reaches a new high point.
Chappell Roan Misses No. 1 Again
For the third time in her career, Roan misses scoring a No. 1 smash on the Official Singles Sales chart. 'Good Luck, Babe!,' 'Pink Pony Club,' and now 'The Giver' have all stalled at No. 2. 'Hot to Go!,' her only other win on the list, only climbed as high as No. 27.
Chappell Roan Fails to Lead for the First Time
Roan's performance on the Official Physical Singles ranking is quite different. Throughout her career, she's only sent three tunes to that list, which focuses on pure purchases of tracks available on formats like CD, vinyl, and cassette. Until now, all of them had reached the top spot. Both 'Good Luck, Babe!' and 'Pink Pony Club' spent short stints at No. 1, while 'The Giver' is thus far settled for the runner-up space.
'The Giver' Peaked at No. 2 Months Ago
'The Giver' originally reached No. 2 on the Official Singles chart, which ranks the most consumed songs in the U.K. Roan debuted her country-pop tune in that position back in late March, and it then began to drift downward for a dozen weeks. Thanks to its surge in vinyl purchases, 'The Giver' reenters that competitive tally at No. 43.
Chappell Roan Scores One New No. 1 Smash
While Roan does miss the throne on several sales rankings, 'The Giver' does manage to debut in first place on the Official Vinyl Singles chart. On that ranking, the Grammy winner keeps her track record perfect, as all three of her hits — 'Good Luck, Babe!,' 'Pink Pony Club,' and now 'The Giver' — have reached the uppermost space.
Lewis Capaldi Debuts at No. 1 With 'Survive'
On both the Official Singles Sales and Official Physical Singles charts, Roan is kept back from running the show by the same artist: Lewis Capaldi. One of the biggest names in the U.K. music industry, Capaldi debuts his new track 'Survive' at No. 1 on several rankings, including the two purchase-centric lists.

Ichiro cracks jokes, shares wisdom and calls out lone voter in National Baseball Hall of Fame speech

All-Star right fielder and Seattle Mariners legend Ichiro Suzuki was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2025. But even as Ichiro was awarded the honor alongside CC Sabathia and Billy Wagner, it was his speech that stole the show. Ichiro, who typically gave interviews in his native Japanese throughout his career, opted to speak in English when addressing the crowd in Cooperstown. In his speech, the outfielder shared some wisdom, and dropped plenty of jokes. One of the best parts of Ichiro's speech was a reference to the lone Hall of Fame voter who kept him from being a unanimous selection. At the time, Ichiro joked that he wanted to invite that writer over to "have a drink together" and "a good chat." [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] On Sunday, Ichiro listed out some of his impressive statistics, saying that the achievements were "recognized by the writers." "Well, all but of one of you," he added, referencing the voter, whose identity is still unknown. "And by the way, the offer for that writer to have dinner at my home has now expired." During the speech Ichiro referred to himself as a "rookie" for third time in his career, noting his origins with the Orix Buffaloes in Japan and Mariners, with whom he made his MLB debut at age 27. The outfielder mentioned some of the Hall of Famers gathered on stage for the ceremony — 52 in total. "I am 51 years old, so easy on the hazing," he joked to those Hall of Famers. The humor continued, as Ichiro also got in a good dig at the Miami Marlins, who he played for from 2015-2017. "Honestly, when you guys called to offer me a contract for 2015, I had never heard of your team," Ichiro said, earning a hearty laugh from the crowd. Later, Ichiro got in a stellar, full-throttled impression of Mariners broadcast Rick Rizzs. But much of the outfielder's speech was very heartfelt. In between jokes, Ichiro thanked the Mariners for bringing him to the league, and thanked former pitcher Hideo Nomo, the first Japanese player to relocate to MLB, for his "courage" and for paving the way. Ichiro also offered some advice, speaking about his own mentality heading into the league, and learning to focus on your best self. "If you consistently do the little things, there's no limit to what you can achieve," Ichiro said. "Look at me. I'm 5'11, and 170 pounds. When I came to America, many people said I was too skinny to compete with bigger major leaguers. ... But I knew that if I stuck to my beliefs about preparation, I could overcome the doubts, even my own. "I have been asked, 'what is the best thing you can do for your team?' My answer is, taking responsibility for yourself," he added. "When you go home at night and wonder why you didn't get a hit, or you didn't make a catch, the honest answer is not because a great pitcher beat you, or the sun was in your eyes. It's because there was something you could have done better." Ichiro finished the speech by saying that he had not heard of Cooperstown until he visited for the first time in 2001, and began to understand the scope of the honor. "Being here today sure is like a fantastic dream," Ichiro said, in conclusion. Ichiro, Sabathia and Wagner will now be enshrined in Cooperstown, as well as Dick Allen and Dave Parker, who were voted in by the Classic Baseball Era committee.

CLOUT was an awful opening guess today, leaving me with 666 remaining words and, well, the mark of the beast apparently. BRAIN only slashed that down to 64, which wasn't ideal in the slightest. SPEAK was better, leaving me with three options to choose from: SAVVY, SAGGY or SASSY. I actually only thought of SAVVY and SASSY and I went with SAVVY because guessing a word with three of the same letter seemed foolish. Thankfully, I was right! Today's Wordle Just like yesterday, I get 0 points for guessing in four and -1 for losing to the Bot. The Bot gets 1 point for guessing in three and another for beating me. The Bot once again takes the lead in our neck-to-neck July race: Erik: 8 points Wordle Bot: 9 points The word "savvy" comes from the West Indies Creole form sabi, meaning "to know," which itself comes from Portuguesesaber or Spanishsaber, both meaning "to know." These derive from the Latin verb sapere, meaning "to be wise" or "to have taste." Be sure to follow me for all your daily puzzle-solving guides, TV show and movie reviews and more here on this blog!
