After another midweek sweep, the Clemson Tigers welcome ACC rival Wake Forest to Doug Kingsmore Stadium today to begin a three-game series in a matchup of two teams ranked in the top 15.
Clemson (21-2 overall, 2-1 ACC), ranked No. 6 in this week's USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, swept a two-game series against The Citadel earlier this week, including an 11-1 victory in seven innings Wednesday. The Tigers' bats outscored the Bulldogs 17-5 after taking two of three from Notre Dame in their ACC opener last week.
Jarren Purify continues to lead the Tigers in hitting with a .386 average, .495 on-base percentage and .657 slugging percentage in 22 games. Outfielder Cam Cannarella is heating up after going 5-for-12 with a double and three RBIs in Clemson's series against Notre Dame. On the pitching side, sophomore Aidan Knaak is coming off his best start of the season in last Friday's 2-1 win over Notre Dame. The sophomore right-hander struck out a career-high 12 batters in seven shutout innings, allowing one hit and retiring 21 of 23 batters faced. Knaak was named ACC Pitcher of the Week and National Co-Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) for his efforts.
Wake Forest (18-4, 6-0), ranked No. 13 in the Coaches Poll, swept Notre Dame and Miami in their first two ACC series. The Demon Deacons suffered an 11-8 loss to Liberty on Tuesday. Butler transfer Kade Lewis, last year's Big East Freshman of the Year, leads Wake Forest in hitting with a .455 average to go with six home runs and eight doubles in 22 games. Lewis is second in the ACC in hitting.
Right-hander Logan Lunceford, a transfer from Missouri, leads coach Tom Walter's pitching staff with a 1.33 ERA in five starts. Kansas vs Mizzou Rematch Set as KU Announces Non-Conference Hoops Schedule
Kansas vs Mizzou Rematch Set as KU Announces Non-Conference Hoops Schedule originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Kansas basketball dropped its nonconference schedule headed into the 2025-26 season and Missouri made its fourth consecutive appearance, this time around, on a Sunday at T-Mobile Stadium in Kansas City. Advertisement The Tigers come into this contest after a historical victory over the Jayhawks on Dec. 8, 2024, when the team defeated No. 1 Kansas in Mizzou Arena for its first top-ranked victory since 1997. Tigers guard Aidan Shaw (23) celebrates with fans after defeating the Kansas Jayhawks at Mizzou Arena.© Jay Biggerstaff-Imagn Images Tamar Bates exploded for Mizzou, dropping a season and career high 29 points; while Mark Mitchell and Anthony Robinson II added 17 and 11 points, respectively. Mitchell added three blocks and Robinson added five steals, pressing top-ranked Kansas every chance they got. The meeting marks the 273rd time the teams have faced off and the meeting marks the teams second-to-last matchup of its current agreement — an agreement that was renewed in 2019 for six years. The first and last matchups are hold at T-Mobile Center — which was Sprint Center at the time — while the four meetings in between alternated between Missouri and Kansas taking the home court. In 2026-27, the series is adding an extra game due to no matchup being played in 2020. Mizzou hadn't defeated Kansas since 2012 prior to its 2024 victory but with the rivalry running so deep, the Tigers have a 96-175 record against the Jayhawks dating back to the two teams first matchup on March 11, 1907. Advertisement The Tigers will take on the Jayhawks on Dec. 7 at T-Mobile Center in a perfect 'meet me in the middle' location for the two schools. Missouri also has three other confirmed dates for non-conference games. Missouri begins its season in Washington D.C. facing off against Howard on Nov. 3. The team will host Virginia Military Institute on Nov. 9 and will host Bethune-Cookman on Dec. 14. The Tigers will also play Minnesota in early November, Illinois in late December — for the two teams annual Border War — and Mizzou will also face off against an Atlantic Coast Conference team in the annual ACC/SEC Challenge. With their historic upset still fresh and the teams nearing the final chapter of the current rivalry agreement set, Missouri will look to build momentum in its Dec. 7 showdown against Kansas. Alabama basketball set to face former player, assistant in 2025-26 nonconference schedule
Alabama basketball set to face former player, assistant in 2025-26 nonconference schedule Alabama basketball added another opponent to its 2025-26 nonconference slate this week. The Crimson Tide will face the Kennesaw State Owls from Conference USA on Sunday, Dec. 21. The game will be played at a neutral site, Propst Arena in Huntsville. The matchup against the Owls will come against a head coach that Alabama fans know well: former Crimson Tide guard and assistant coach Antoine Pettway. A starter on Alabama's 2004 team that went on a deep NCAA Tournament run to reach the program's first Elite Eight, Pettway will be in his third season as Owls head coach. He previously served as an assistant at Alabama from 2013-23 under Anthony Grant, Avery Johnson and Nate Oats. Pettway guided Kennesaw State to a 19-14 overall record and a 10-8 mark in Conference USA play last season. He had a four-year playing career at Alabama from 2000-01 to 2003-04 under coach Mark Gottfried, averaging 9.1 points per game to go with 3.7 rebounds with 3.5 assists while starting all 33 games his senior season. Oats has put together another loaded nonconference schedule with marquee matchups for 2025-26. The Crimson Tide will face Illinois (in Chicago), Purdue (at Coleman Coliseum), St. John's (Madison Square Garden) and Arizona (in Birmingham), among others. Alabama finished 28-9 last season and advanced to the Elite Eight before falling to Duke in the East Region final in Newark. The Crimson Tide were ranked No. 6 in the final USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. CBS Sports decides what Clemson football must do to be successful in 2025
CBS Sports decides what Clemson football must do to be successful in 2025 The start of the 2025 college football season is 79 days away -- and 86 days until the Clemson Tigers host LSU in Death Valley at Memorial Stadium on Aug. 30. As we count down the days until then, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney is holding his annual summer camp, offensive line coach Matt Luke is busy lighting things up on the recruiting trail with the 2026 signing class, and the Tigers have landed their first official commitment for 2027. All great news, but what about the 2025 season? Clemson has a stacked roster that is looking to build off a 10-win campaign that included an ACC championship and a trip to the College Football Playoff. The biggest concern the Tigers have is not at quarterback; not after Cade Klubnik's meteoric rise in 2024 (3,639 passing yards, 36 TDs, six INTs). It's not at wide receiver, either. The Tigers have bonafide studs in senior Antonio Williams, plus young sensations Bryant Wesco and T.J. Moore at the position. The defense is anchored up front by linemen T.J. Parker and Peter Woods, and Avieon Terrell shores things up in the secondary. The consensus is that the Tigers' biggest question mark heading into the 2025 season is at running back, where they'll have to replace senior Phil Mafah. On Thursday, CBS Sports' Brad Crawford wrote about one area every team in his post-spring top 25 must address to be successful in 2025. For Clemson, it's finding comfort in the run game. Crawford said: "Find comfort in run game: Tabbed by a few to be college football's top team this fall, Clemson is loaded on both sides with perhaps its best roster since Dabo Swinney's last national championship team. That said, the Tigers are inexperienced in the backfield with freshman Gideon Davidson, third-year sophomore Jay Haynes and redshirt freshman David Eziomume expected to share the load at running back after Phil Mafah's departure. This will be a pass-happy team with Cade Klubnik, but offensive coordinator Garrett Riley needs to be able to breathe easy in short-yardage situations, too." Mafah rushed 216 times for 1,115 yards (5.2 AVG) and eight touchdowns a season ago. It's the second straight year that Clemson will have to replace its starting tailback from the previous season after Mafah took over for the versatile Will Shipley after 2023. Clemson and LSU will meet in prime time at 7:30 p.m. ET on Aug. 30. The game will be televised on ABC.
