SSC proposes sliding scheme for recruitment to all advertised posts
Prayagraj: The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is planning to introduce a major policy change in Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Exam 2025, one of its biggest recruitments.
For this, a proposal has been sent to the Central govt, and after approval, it will be implemented from this recruitment.
Under the new policy, the Commission will make appointments from the waiting list for the first time to ensure recruitment to all the advertised posts of Group 'B' and Group 'C' in various ministries, departments, organisations of the Central govt, and various constitutional bodies, statutory bodies, tribunals, etc.
However, instead of calling it a waiting list, the Commission has named it as a 'sliding scheme' wherein if those selected in the main list somehow fail to turn up, the candidates will be selected from the waiting list.
As per the policy of SSC, a waiting list/reserved list is not made in respect of recruitment examinations. It came to light from the last few recruitments that some vacancies remain vacant after document verification. Therefore, in an effort to fill all the advertised vacancies, the Commission is considering implementing a sliding scheme in the post allocation of a cycle to fill the vacant post from the extended cut-off after document verification.
Its implementation will be done on the approval of the Centre.
In another important development, f SSC has announced recruitment for two new posts in CGL 2025. This time there will also be selection for the post of office superintendent in the Central Board of Direct Taxes and Section Head in the Director General of Foreign Trade Office. Applications have been sought until July 4 for 14,582 posts. Last year, 36.73 lakh students filled the forms for the CGL exam.

New Delhi/Surat: Passengers on two Surat-bound flights were forced to deboard on Friday due to technical issues. The affected flights were from Thailand to Surat and the one operating on the Jaipur–Bengaluru–Surat route. Air India Express Surat-Bangkok flight of Friday suffered a suspected bird arrival when it was about to land at its destination. The Boeing 737MAX landed safely and was grounded there. As a result, the aircraft could not operate the return Bangkok-Surat flight. "There were about 180 passengers who were supposed to fly to Surat. Despite the waiver, many residents had already paid the garbage tax as part of their property tax bills for 2024–25, expecting the excess amount to be adjusted in 2025–26 bills. However, to their disappointment, no such adjustment was made, and fresh bills were issued with new garbage tax charges included. The waiver for 2023–24 had been formally approved by the MC, and a second waiver for 2024–25 was announced ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. However, residents allege that the latter announcement remained only on paper, with no practical implementation. In a letter addressed to the authorities, the Citizens' Welfare Association (CWA), Panchkula, expressed frustration over the situation, stating that residents are being forced to pay the garbage collection fee again, while the previously paid amount remains unadjusted. Full rapid rail corridor to be ready this month, says NCRTC
Ghaziabad: In just about a month, the commute between Delhi and Meerut could be nearly as quick as a Gurgaon-Connaught Place metro ride. The NCR Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is set to achieve a milestone as the 82km rapid rail corridor it is building from Sarai Kale Khan to Meerut is on the cusp of full readiness. Officials confirmed that trains could run on the entire Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor either by the end of this month or early July. A 55km of the section — from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South — is already functional while trials on the remaining stretch and Meerut Metro, which is part of this section, will be complete this month. A clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) is expected in a couple of weeks. Once that is done, it will pave the way for India's first semi-high speed mass transit corridor to become operational fully. "Technically speaking, rapid rail trains are already running on the entire 82km corridor. According to the official, work on the metro corridor on the 27km stretch was almost over as well. "We are planning to present the complete stretch, including the Meerut Metro, for inauguration soon. It has taken six years for the corridor to start commercial operations since Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the project in March 2019. Subsequently, a 17km stretch from Duhai to Modinagar North was commissioned in March 2023, followed by an 8km section from Modinagar North to Meerut South. Jan 2024 saw the commissioning of the 13km stretch between Sahibabad and New Ashok Nagar, bringing the operational length to 55km. "This expanding operational network has helped rapid rail trains achieve a milestone of over one crore ridership," the official added.
