Fingent of Infopark wins KMA honour for innovative HR practices
Kochi, May 29 (UNI) Fingent Global Solutions at Infopark received the Kerala Management Association's Special Jury Award for Innovative Human Resource Practices in recognition of the company's innovative practices in the field of HR.
Fingent had last year won the KMA Award for Best Company in the same category.
Deepu Prakash, Senior Vice President of the firm, said the honour reinforced the merits of Fingent's 'efforts to demonstrate excellence by adopting innovative and indigenous technology in this challenging entrepreneurial environment'.
'The excellent work of our HR department has enabled employees to enhance their well-being and fully utilize their purchasing power,' he noted. 'This has been the driving force behind Fingent's success.'
Fingent has set a precedent in the IT industry through technology-integrated HR practices, flexible working hours, and skill development programs.

CJI Gavai champions cross-border legal synergy at ICA London conference
New Delhi / London, June 5 (UNI) Chief Justice of India Justice B R Gavai inaugurated the third International Conference on 'Arbitrating Indo-UK Commercial Disputes: Synergizing India–UK Arbitration Practices' in London on Thursday. The high-level event, hosted by the Indian Council of Arbitration (ICA) during London International Disputes Week, brought together legal luminaries, judges, policymakers, and commercial dispute resolution experts from both nations to strengthen ties in arbitration and mediation. Delivering the inaugural address, CJI Gavai remarked, 'India and the United Kingdom share a rich history, bound by the tradition of arbitration and mediation rooted in our common law heritage.' The conference was also addressed by Union Minister of Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal, Lord Michael Briggs, Judge of the UK Supreme Court, Justice Hima Kohli, Supreme Court of India, Vikram Doraiswami, High Commissioner of India to the UK, and eminent lawyers including Harish Salve KC and Geeta Luthra, Vice President of ICA. CJI Gavai reflected on India's arbitration journey, invoking Mahatma Gandhi's commitment to mediation as foundational. 'Disputes are inevitable. What defines a strong commercial relationship is our commitment to resolve them efficiently,' he stated. He emphasised India's progress through amendments to the Arbitration and Conciliation Act (notably 2019), the establishment of the Arbitration Council of India, and the 2024 Bill proposing emergency arbitration and appellate tribunals. He lauded the UK's 2025 reforms in its Arbitration Act, promoting summary disposal and legal clarity. Justice Gavai drew from key Indian rulings, including BALCO, Vijay Karia, Amazon versus Future Retail and Gayatri Balasamy, to emphasise judicial minimalism and finality in arbitration. He noted, 'When arbitral awards are upheld without unnecessary interference, it enhances predictability, business trust, and investor confidence.' The CJI praised the growth of Indian institutions like DIAC, MCIA, and IIAC, while commending LCIA's role as a global benchmark. He stressed the importance of collaboration between Indian and UK arbitration bodies to raise global standards. Justice Gavai applauded the adoption of Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) and hybrid systems such as Arb-Med-Arb. He called the Bar Council of India's recent move to allow foreign lawyers to advise on arbitration in India a 'landmark reform' that balances global openness with domestic integrity. CJI Gavai humorously outlined four transformative reforms he would introduce with a "magical wand". 'If I Had a Wand…,' CJI said, "I would make four reforms for India's Arbitration Regime." Finality of Arbitral Awards – Arbitration must be the final word, not an invitation for years of litigation. Mainstream Institutional Arbitration -- The Arbitration centres should be the norm, not an exception. Elimination of Delays -- Procedural fairness should not become a tool for tactical stalling. Diversity in Arbitrators -- The arbitrator pool must reflect varied perspectives and backgrounds for better outcomes. Chief Justice Gavai concluded by affirming India's unwavering commitment to becoming a preferred global seat for arbitration. He said, 'As India and the UK grow increasingly interconnected in commerce and law, our shared democratic values and legal traditions provide a strong foundation for a unified, efficient, and trustworthy dispute resolution system.' The conference echoed a resounding call for legal harmonisation, technology-driven arbitration, and cross-border cooperation with the shared goal of easing court pendency and bolstering investor confidence through strong alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. India has outperformed global growth average despite challenges: Om Birla
Brasilia/New Delhi, June 5 (UNI) Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday said despite the global uncertainties and domestic challenges, India has consistently outperformed the global growth average. 'Rising from the 10th largest economy in 2014 to the 4th largest today is a testament to India's robust policies and the strength of its people,' Birla said while addressing the 2nd Working Session of the BRICS Parliamentary Forum here on the theme 'BRICS Parliamentary Action in Search of New Paths for Economic Development', an official statement said. He said that from 2014-15 to 2024-25, India's GDP has grown at an average rate of over 7 percent, making it the fastest-growing major economy in the world. Birla noted that India is not only the world's largest and most vibrant democracy but also a nation with stable governance, strong constitutional institutions, the rule of law, a transparent and accountable tax system, and decisive leadership that has earned the trust of global investors. The Lok Sabha Speaker said that India supports a fair and rule-based global trading system—one that adequately addresses the needs and aspirations of the Global South. 'India views the BRICS Parliamentary Forum as a vital platform—where through shared efforts and dialogue, we can redefine the contours of economic development. This forum further reinforces our commitment to mutual cooperation, solidarity, and the welfare of our citizens,' the Speaker added. Moreover, during his bilateral meeting with President of the Federal Senate of Brazil, Davi Alcolumbre, Birla said that terrorism is the biggest threat to global peace and stability. While referring to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in which 26 innocent civilians were brutally killed, Birla said, 'Pakistan has failed to take concrete action against the terrorist infrastructure operating from its territory; India exercised its right to respond, to prevent such cross-border attacks in the future, and to defend itself.' On Operation Sindoor, Birla said that these steps were 'measured, non-provocative, proportionate, and responsible'. Their sole objective was to destroy terrorist infrastructure and neutralise the capabilities of terrorists. 'Today's India is firmly committed to a policy of zero tolerance towards all forms of terrorism and gives a strong response to every terrorist attack,' he added. On the sidelines of the BRICS Parliamentary Forum, the Lok Sabha Speaker also held a bilateral meeting with the President of the Chamber of Deputies of Brazil Hugo Motta. Birla observed that India and Brazil are natural partners. Both countries have, from time to time, provided direction and momentum to their bilateral relations through high-level dialogues. He added, 'There is extensive collaboration between the two countries in areas such as defence, technology, space, energy, and culture. The special session organised by the Brazilian Congress in 2022 on the occasion of 75 years of India's independence is a testament to our special friendship.'

Odisha achieves unprecedented investment of Rs. 1.5 lakh crore in five months: Majhi
Bhubaneswar, June 5 (UNI) Odisha has achieved an unprecedented investment of about Rs. 1.5 lakh crore in the last five months, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said. Majhi, who laid the foundation stone for projects worth over Rs. 28,000 crore covering 12 industries during his visit to Ganjam district on Thursday, said that the ambitious goal set for Odisha's bright future will be fulfilled. He added that the foundation stone for industries worth Rs. 70,000 crore was laid in Jajpur Kalinga Nagar. On Wednesday, the foundation stone for industries worth Rs. 50,000 crore was laid in Dhenkanal. Today, an industry worth about Rs. 30,000 crore will be established in the Ganjam district. The Chief Minister said that with investments in green hydrogen, chemicals, and renewable energy, Ganjam district is now setting a new benchmark in industrialization, creating opportunities for 15,000 jobs. Ganjam district, he said, has achieved a new milestone in the industrial sector, which will open a path of prosperity for the region. Majhi also stated that the government's goal is to develop port-based industries in Odisha. In addition to the three existing ports, three to four more ports will also be established. The Chief Minister noted that the central government has approved projects worth about Rs. 1 lakh crore in the railway and highway sectors. He emphasized that in Odisha, 75,000 kilometer of world-class roads will be built. Along with this, several industrial corridors will also be developed to meet the state's industrial growth needs.
