Jamie Carragher makes Mikel Arteta 'points won' dig at Gary Neville's Prem predictions

Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville locked horns once again on the Sky Sports YouTube channel, with the former taking delight in a comment made by Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta Mikel Arteta found himself in Jamie Carragher's crosshairs as the pundit argued with Gary Neville over their Premier League predictions. The Sky Sports duo featured on the broadcaster's YouTube channel to review their past Premier League winner forecasts from recent years. ‌ While Neville claimed he was ahead in their prediction battle, the former Liverpool star hit back with a hilarious reference to Arteta's comments from the start of the season. When questioned about catching up to his ex-rival, Carragher said: "But I've actually got more points over that time, and have you heard Mikel Arteta of late? Mikel Arteta is right. ‌ "He's got more points than anyone over the last three seasons. And I've got more points over him over the last five seasons." ‌ The former Liverpool defender's dig referenced remarks made by the Arsenal manager during a press conference before the new Premier League season kicked off. The Spaniard said at the time: "Yeah, you keep digging, digging, digging and you have to be digging because one day the gold is going to be there. "That's all the time. When I've been taught, when I've been educated and that's it. "For three seasons we've had more points than any other team in this league, which is incredible. That's how you have all the consistency. ‌ "Now we have to do it in a season to have one more point or the same amount of points and more goals different than any other team. That's the objective." Whilst Arteta's remarks about the points total are entertaining and peculiar, they aren't actually accurate either. Despite finishing ahead of Manchester City last season, Pep Guardiola's side have still gathered the most points across the previous three league campaigns, totalling 251. ‌ Arsenal, in second place, have amassed 247 points from the last three seasons combined, whilst Liverpool have collected 233. During the same discussion over the Premier League crown, Neville supported the Gunners once more this year, believing the side will ultimately "get it over the line." Neville said: "I've got to stick with Arsenal because I've felt they were going to win it for the last three years. I felt they're going to get it over the line, and it would be wrong of me to change now and I can't split the three of them to be fair." ‌ Carragher remained loyal to his former club, who finished 10 points clear of Arsenal last campaign, despite harbouring some concerns about their season's beginning. He said: "I'm going to go for Liverpool but I do think I agree with you in that I think all three of them - anything could happen. "I was a little bit unnerved by what I saw from Liverpool in the first game and there might be a case of, I think there's got to be a little bit of rejigging going on in terms of how we set the team up. It's still early days and you obviously back [Arne] Slot to find a way to make that work." Naturally, Arteta is confident his own squad can finally shake off their misfortune and secure that elusive title. Speaking about the atmosphere at the Emirates Stadium, he added: "The mood of the place, the energy around it, the enthusiasm that the boys, the staff came with from day one, now we're going to do better, to keep improving as a team and to win. "That's what drives my energy and that's why I'm so excited." Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Tottenham dealt fresh injury blow with star man ruled out until the NEW YEAR as Thomas Frank ramps up search for reinforcements after Eberechi Eze snub

Tottenham do not expect Dejan Kulusevski back in action before the end of the calendar year. Kulusevski underwent knee surgery in May after suffering an injury in a defeat by Crystal Palace. He missed the end of the season including the triumphant Europa League final and his extended absence has fuelled their quest to sign a creative playmaker this summer. James Maddison is also likely to miss most of the season ahead after damaging knee ligaments in a preseason friendly and Spurs have failed in their attempts to sign Morgan Gibbs White from Nottingham Forest and Eberechi Eze from Palace. Tottenham's new head coach Thomas Frank has thus far been reluctant to put any sort of time frame on Kulusevski's possible return. When he was asked at his unveiling press conference in July, Frank refused to confirm anything other than that he would not be ready for the start of the season. However, the 25-year-old Sweden international, who has proved effective both wide on the right and centrally as a creative number 10, appears likely to be out until the end of this year. Spurs are stepping up their pursuit of alternative targets after conceding Eze will join Arsenal. These include Nico Paz of Como, Maghnes Akliouche of Monaco and Savinho of Manchester City.

Wrexham sign Man City youngster Callum Doyle

Wrexham have completed the signing of Manchester City defender Callum Doyle in a move that takes their summer spending past £30m as they look to secure their position in the Championship. The 21-year-old becomes Phil Parkinson 's 10th summer signing while City continue to trim their squad and bring in money by selling youth-team products. Centre-back Doyle is the second biggest buy in Wrexham's history, after Nathan Broadhead joined from Ipswich last week, in costing an initial £7.5m. Included in the deal is a buyback clause for City as well as a 25% sell-on clause should Wrexham decide to part ways with Doyle in the future. Wrexham had already broken their club record this summer to sign first Liberato Cacace and then Lewis O'Brien while they have also bought Conor Coady, Kieffer Moore, Ryan Hardie and George Thomason, besides bringing in Josh Windass and Danny Ward on free transfers. They've started the season with narrow back-to-back defeats but have shown enough promise to improve as the year goes on. On Doyle's signing, Parkinson said: 'We're delighted to welcome Callum to the Club. He's a talented young player with a lot of Championship experience. We're looking forward to him joining up with the squad and working with him.' England Under-21 international Doyle has never made a first-team appearance for City but has had four loan spells, playing for Sunderland in League One in 2021-22 and then Coventry, Leicester City and Norwich City in the Championship. He won promotions with Sunderland and Leicester and reached the play-off final with Coventry. On signing for Wrexham, he said: 'I'm buzzing to join the Club. I've been wanting a permanent move for some time now and I can't wait to get started. 'I've been interested in the Club from afar and kept a close eye on the journey and now I'm excited to be a part of it.' After going up in each of the last three seasons, Wrexham have lost both of their matches in the Championship, conceding five goals, as well as three in the Carabao Cup to Hull. Doyle's departure will follow James McAtee's £30m move to Nottingham Forest, while City have also sold other young players, in Jacob Wright, Maximo Perrone and Farid Alpha-Ruprecht. In addition, one of Pep Guardiola's summer signings, Sverre Nypan, has joined Middlesbrough on a season-long loan. The 18-year-old Norwegian midfielder joined for £12.5m, but City's plan was always to loan him out to gain first-team experience.
