New 60-km rapid rail route proposed to link Gurugram, Faridabad and Noida
A new 60-kilometre-long high-speed rail corridor has been proposed to improve connectivity between Gurugram, Faridabad, and Noida. If approved, the project, planned under the Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), will be developed separately from existing or under-construction routes such as the Delhi-Gurugram and Delhi-SNB corridors.
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has written to the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation Limited (HMRTC) seeking approval to begin work on the route plan. Once the alignment is cleared, a detailed project report (DPR) will be prepared.
According to a report by Hindustan Times, a senior HMRTC official confirmed that the plan was recently reviewed in a meeting led by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. 'The proposal is under the consideration of the Haryana government and it will greatly boost connectivity across three important regions of NCR. We will provide all support and assistance to make this project happen,' the official said, as quotes by Hindustan Times.
The report further mentioned that another senior government official added that the chief minister had given instructions to move ahead with the project after the meeting. The planned train system will operate at a speed of 180 kmph and is expected to cost around ₹15,000 crore.
In a letter to the Haryana government, NCRTC stated, 'Before initiation of DPR work, MoHUA has also desired formal approval of stakeholders on the route alignment of Namo Bharat (RRTS) corridor at the earliest. Since majority of the proposed alignment is passing through state of Haryana, it is therefore requested that attached Namo Bharat alignment may be reviewed, and suitable approval may be provided to initiate the work of preparation of DPR.'
Proposed stations and route
As per the plan, the new RRTS corridor will start from Gurugram, with the first station near IFFCO Chowk at Sector 29, located along the Delhi-Jaipur Highway. From there, it will go to Sector 54 on Golf Course Road and then move towards Faridabad via the Gurugram-Faridabad Road.
In Faridabad, two stations are proposed—one at Bata Chowk and another at the intersection of Sectors 85 and 86. After that, the corridor will reach Noida, with a station near the Sector 142-168 junction. The final stop will be Surajpur in Greater Noida, where it will connect to the planned Ghaziabad-Jewar Airport Namo Bharat line.
Coordination and monitoring
To help the project move forward smoothly, NCRTC has asked the Haryana government to create a monitoring committee. This committee would include members from relevant state, district, and local departments to make quick and effective decisions.

Other projects in progress
Apart from this new proposal, NCRTC is already working on two major RRTS corridors:
A 102-km corridor from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to SNB (Shahjahanpur–Neemrana–Behror) via Gurugram. Construction is likely to begin in August 2026 and finish by November 2031. This project is expected to cost ₹35,000 crore and is being jointly funded by the central government and the states of Haryana and Rajasthan.
A 136-km corridor from Sarai Kale Khan to New Karnal in Haryana. This line will travel through Delhi's Ring Road to Mukarba Chowk, then along NH-44 through Panipat up to Madhuban. The estimated cost of this project is ₹34,000 crore.
If the new 60-km corridor gets approved, it will be a major addition to the growing Namo Bharat network, aimed at improving daily travel and reducing traffic in the National Capital Region.

Expedite Polavaram-Banakacharla project works: CM
Vijayawada: Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday directed officials to call tenders for the Polavaram-Banakacharla project by the end of June while ensuring that forest and environmental clearances, DPR approval, and other processes are completed on time for land acquisition. The project is likely to be undertaken in a hybrid annuity model (HAM). The Polavaram-Banakacharla linkage project is being constructed under the Jalharathi Corporation, and a special purpose vehicle (SPV) has already been set up for the purpose. The state has sent proposals to the central govt seeking financial resources for the project. Of the total project cost of Rs 81,900 crore, 50% or Rs 40,950 crore will be obtained as EAP loans. Additionally, 20% of the funds or Rs 16,380 crore is to be sourced as central grant, 10% or Rs 8,190 crore as state govt equity, and another 20% or Rs 16,380 crore under HAM. In a review meeting with irrigation dept officials, Naidu instructed them to take immediate steps to commence crop cultivation in Krishna and Godavari deltas. He suggested altering the cultivation period so that crops can be harvested before the cyclone season. Expressing dissatisfaction over non-functional piezometers and AWS sensors in some areas of the state, he ordered the release of Rs 30 crore for purchasing new equipments. He asked officials to gather details of areas with groundwater levels below 20 meters and between 8-20 meters and release separate bulletins by basins, districts, and central-local levels. "Measures should be taken to increase the average groundwater levels in the state. Consider using Sileru water in Krishna delta," he suggested. The CM was informed that 82% of civil construction works of Polavaram project have been completed. Less than 4% of works were done in five years during the previous govt's tenure, whereas 6% of works have been completed in 11 months after the coalition govt came to power in 2024. The diaphragm wall is 64% complete, buttress dam is 91% complete, and vibro compaction works for sand consolidation are 54% complete. Lucknow-Kanpur rapid rail clears final hurdle, promises sub-hour commute
Now that Lucknow Development Authority has approved the proposed rapid rail corridor between Lucknow and Kanpur, decks have been cleared for the project to move into the implementation phase. The corridor, dubbed 'NaMo Corridor', will enable high-speed trains to operate at 160 km per hour, bringing down the travel time between the two cities to just 40 to 50 minutes. National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) had proposed the rapid rail in 2015, but the progress was hampered by multiple delays, including disruptions during the Covid-19 pandemic. Authorities in Kanpur and Unnao had already granted necessary clearances to the project. With LDA issuing its no-objection certificate (NOC) on Wednesday, the project has crossed its final administrative hurdle. The project will mirror the ongoing Delhi-Meerut RRTS, which is already in advanced stages of development. High-speed trains, smart ticketing, automatic train doors, and advanced safety systems are expected to be the standard on the Lucknow-Kanpur line as well. Additionally, the development will follow a transit-oriented approach, ensuring that stations act as hubs for commercial and residential growth. 'LDA has approved the project under the condition that it aligns with Lucknow's master plan. The work is expected to be completed within five years,' said Prathamesh Kumar, vice-chairman, LDA. With the NOC now in place, NCRTC is expected to finalise the detailed project report (DPR), followed by tendering, land acquisition, and the beginning of the construction work. If completed on schedule, the Lucknow-Kanpur rapid rail would become Uttar Pradesh's first regional rapid transit system. All-weather op, impetus to infra The proposed route will start from the Amausi airport in Lucknow and pass through Bani, Unnao, Jaitipur, Ajgain, and Magarwara before reaching Ganga Barrage in Kanpur. Plans include its integration with the metro systems in both Lucknow and Kanpur. Designed to operate in foggy, rainy, and adverse weather conditions, the rapid rail will be equipped with state-of-the-art systems. Officials say that the service will not be affected by seasonal disruptions, a key factor in a region known for winter fog and erratic monsoons. Apart from improving intercity travel, the corridor is expected to provide a major boost to regional infrastructure, particularly in Unnao, where warehousing zones and industrial hubs are being planned along the route. The alignment also supports planned residential zones closer to Kanpur's outskirts, opening new opportunities for housing and real estate development.

Major flight disruptions on cards for Delhi airport
Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport will temporarily shut down one of its runways for three months to carry out critical upgrades, leading to significant disruptions in flight operations. As reported by Hindustan Times earlier, the runway 28/10 will be shut for shut down for upgrades. "Out of the four runways that the Delhi airport has, there is one runway 10/28 that we are planning to shut down for three months because there are upgrades that are required," Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar told the news agency. Due to the activity, about 100 flights are going to be affected overall, of which over 43 flights are going to be rescheduled. "The new schedule has already been published, and 57 departure flights are going to be cancelled. If you put it in the perspective of the percentage, then overall, for Delhi airport, about seven per cent of the Delhi airport capacity flights will be cancelled," said Jaipuriar. The slashing of services comes after a similar attempt in April led to widespread chaos in flight schedules at the country's busiest airport, forcing authorities to abandon the work, as reported by Hindustan Times. The April crisis exposed critical coordination gaps in India's aviation ecosystem. Despite being informed well in advance about the runway closure, airlines had not reduced their flight operations, triggering delays that cascaded throughout the country.
