Mohamed Salah 'slap' on Trent Alexander-Arnold sums up their relationship

Yahoo04-04-2025

It's no secret that Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah have a strong bromance, and the pair landed playful slaps on each other following the Merseyside derby at Anfield this week.
Liverpool star Alexander-Arnold missed the game due to an ankle injury but was in attendance to cheer his teammates on to a 1-0 victory, and after the final whistle he made his way to the dug-out, where he embraced a number of his teammates.
Curtis Jones got a big hug after impressing in Alexander-Arnold's usual right-back role, while Alexander-Arnold bumped chests with center-back Ibrahima Konate.
After that exchange with Konate came a funny one with Salah, as the Egyptian lifted his right hand and playfully swiped Alexander-Arnold across his face, to which Alexander-Arnold responded by putting his hand on Salah's face.

The exchange was clearly light-hearted, but one Liverpool fan account which shared the clip wrote, "don't know how I feel about this", suggesting a level of concern that the pair might have a problem with one another.
Others allayed those concerns, as one fan wrote: "Definitely playing around look as he (Salah) walks out of frame he's starting to laugh." Another said: "They're close like Brothers. Seems to love to wind each other up."

Just last month, a video of Salah and Alexander-Arnold 'squaring up' on the eve of Liverpool's game against PSG at Anfield went viral, but there was clearly not a jot of seriousness involved.
Alexander-Arnold and Salah have a famously good relationship on and off the field, and the England right-back revealed last year that his biggest "bromance" at Liverpool was with Salah.
"[I have the biggest bromance with Salah because of] how long we've known each other and how long we've played together, our bond and connection," Alexander-Arnold told Stadium Astro. "On the pitch, we understand the way we play. Even though we could so many times, we never moan at each other, we just respect each other's style of play.
"At times I'll overlap and completely ignore me. I know the next time if I get the ball and don't pass to him, he's probably thinking the same thing. We respect each others' play, and that's why I think our right side is one of the best ever."
Salah himself recently named Alexander-Arnold as one of his best friends in soccer, telling TNT Sports: 'I have many [good friends]. Me and Eden Hazard when we see each other have so much fun. I'm close to Kostas [Tsimikas], I'm close to Dominik [Szoboszlai].
'Virgil [van Dijk] also, because we have been team-mates for eight years, so when we sit together and discuss we always have an incredible conversation. We have so much respect for each other. I like Trent a lot but he's crazy. He doesn't like to talk but I love him. Robbo [Andy Robertson] more for talking, Trent for listening.'

Fabrizio Romano confirms 'agreement is done' for record-breaking Liverpool deal

The Reds have been incredibly busy in this early part of the summer and now that one transfer has been confirmed, another two are on the brink of being announced once their medicals are scheduled. Money has often been spent frugally at Liverpool, but the times are a changing and the club has no choice but to adhere to the new tide of transfer spending in order to survive. Advertisement Potential is now an incredibly expensive commodity and a track record of success is not necessary for a player to be sold for a significant transfer fee. Getting a bargain in this day and age is tough. Kerkez to Liverpool will break historic records Milos Kerkez's impending move to Merseyside has been rumoured for quite some time. The Hungarian is our priority signing at left-back and it's now inconceivable that anyone else could join. At 21 years old, the Premier League team of the season full-back has outshone everyone else and his game fits perfectly into Arne Slot's plans. You would struggle to find anyone with a better fit to us. Advertisement Not only is his potential enormous, but his current skillset is a major upgrade on the options that Liverpool have available right now and so the financial cost of signing him is irrelevant. We need him. But the reported £45m fee will not be a drop in the ocean. Jeremie Frimpong's move broke the club's previous full-back transfer fee record by over double, which was Nathaniel Clyne for £12.5m. Kerkez's fee - while unconfirmed - could almost quadruple Clyne's record, putting at least £15m on Frimpong's record which might only last for just over a week.

Wonderkid fulfils DESTINY by signing for Liverpool

Liverpool's latest signing Armin Pecsi is another example of this. It was the Hungarian wonderkid's destiny to play for the club. Pecsi's father, Imre, is a Liverpool fan. His son, Armin, was born in 2005 - the same year the Reds pulled off the miracle of Istanbul. Advertisement Growing up in Gyor, Armin, just like his father, became a fan of the Reds. Thousands of miles away from Liverpool, the youngster was wearing the club's colours with pride as he shared on his Instagram page announcing his arrival at the club. Three years ago, Pecsi was already walking around the Anfield dressing room. Back then, he made the visit while he was playing in U19 European qualifying matches in the north of England. Incidentally, it's here where he first caught the eye of scouts, playing a blinder against England's U19 team, making six saves and keeping a 10-men Hungary in the game, with his side narrowly losing 1-0. In between those qualifying matches, Hungary's team made a visit to Anfield, and had a tour around the stadium. Pecsi standing at the back with his long hair, will have already fulfilled a lifelong dream of visiting the famous stadium. Little did he know that three years later, he'd be there again, signing for the club. But before that, a few more significant things had to happen to forge Pecsi's arrival into destiny. Advertisement In 2023, Dominik Szoboszlai signed for Liverpool. Hungary's best player, Pecsi's countryman, signing for his beloved club. To make matters even better, by that point Pecsi was Szoboszlai's fellow colleague, with Matyas Esterhazy's EM Sports Consulting representing both of Hungary's promising stars. As a result, Pecsi had the opportunity to watch Szoboszlai in action during Hungary's winter break in the 2023/24 season. As shared on his Instagram, he attended a game back in December 2023. Even then, he couldn't have fathomed that he'd be signing for Liverpool and he'd soon get the opportunity to play at Anfield as player of the Reds. But that's now the prospect that awaits him.

Liverpool confirm agreement to REPLACE fan favourite

One of the big factors why Kelleher was regarded as such a brilliant no.2 was because he was able to come in and replace Alisson in the Brazilian's absence. Kelleher was able to do this due to his composure on the ball and brilliant reflexes. Advertisement His composure on the ball came from playing as a striker in Ireland until the age of 13-years-old, when he switched into playing as a goalkeeper instead. 'He was a very good centre-forward and represented his county in that position," Eddie Harrington told the Liverpool ECHO back in 2022. 'He only went in goal at Under-14s level and that was only about seven years ago. That's a massive transition. We taught him to pass it out from the back but he probably had the footwork from being an outfielder," Harrington continued. Now Liverpool are about to sign a player very similar to Kelleher, who went through the same journey at around the same age. Advertisement The Reds have confirmed the arrival of Armin Pecsi from Puskas Akademia. Like Kelleher, he is a brilliant shot-stopper with great reflexes, who prevented 14.33 goals in the Hungarian top flight last season. But even more interestingly, like Kelleher, Pecsi also played as a forward at a younger age and learned the foundations of the game as an outfielder before switching to become a goalkeeper. "For a long time I played up front, I also played in goal, but I preferred to play as a striker," Pecsi told FEOL. "Even at the age of maybe 11 or 12, I was still playing in both striker and goalkeeper," he continued. Advertisement "Then there came a point when I was told it would be good to decide which I wanted to do, and I decided to stay in goal and continue there. I decided on my own." In this sense, Liverpool might have just signed their Kelleher 2.0 and have already replaced the beloved fan favourite at Anfield in the matter of days. All for the paltry sum of £1.5m, Anfield Watch understands. There's no denying this is the perfect deal.
