Mohamed Salah 'slap' on Trent Alexander-Arnold sums up their relationship

Yahoo04-04-2025
It's no secret that Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah have a strong bromance, and the pair landed playful slaps on each other following the Merseyside derby at Anfield this week.
Liverpool star Alexander-Arnold missed the game due to an ankle injury but was in attendance to cheer his teammates on to a 1-0 victory, and after the final whistle he made his way to the dug-out, where he embraced a number of his teammates.
Curtis Jones got a big hug after impressing in Alexander-Arnold's usual right-back role, while Alexander-Arnold bumped chests with center-back Ibrahima Konate.
After that exchange with Konate came a funny one with Salah, as the Egyptian lifted his right hand and playfully swiped Alexander-Arnold across his face, to which Alexander-Arnold responded by putting his hand on Salah's face.

The exchange was clearly light-hearted, but one Liverpool fan account which shared the clip wrote, "don't know how I feel about this", suggesting a level of concern that the pair might have a problem with one another.
Others allayed those concerns, as one fan wrote: "Definitely playing around look as he (Salah) walks out of frame he's starting to laugh." Another said: "They're close like Brothers. Seems to love to wind each other up."

Just last month, a video of Salah and Alexander-Arnold 'squaring up' on the eve of Liverpool's game against PSG at Anfield went viral, but there was clearly not a jot of seriousness involved.
Alexander-Arnold and Salah have a famously good relationship on and off the field, and the England right-back revealed last year that his biggest "bromance" at Liverpool was with Salah.
"[I have the biggest bromance with Salah because of] how long we've known each other and how long we've played together, our bond and connection," Alexander-Arnold told Stadium Astro. "On the pitch, we understand the way we play. Even though we could so many times, we never moan at each other, we just respect each other's style of play.
"At times I'll overlap and completely ignore me. I know the next time if I get the ball and don't pass to him, he's probably thinking the same thing. We respect each others' play, and that's why I think our right side is one of the best ever."
Salah himself recently named Alexander-Arnold as one of his best friends in soccer, telling TNT Sports: 'I have many [good friends]. Me and Eden Hazard when we see each other have so much fun. I'm close to Kostas [Tsimikas], I'm close to Dominik [Szoboszlai].
'Virgil [van Dijk] also, because we have been team-mates for eight years, so when we sit together and discuss we always have an incredible conversation. We have so much respect for each other. I like Trent a lot but he's crazy. He doesn't like to talk but I love him. Robbo [Andy Robertson] more for talking, Trent for listening.'

Liverpool manager Arne Slot heaps praise on ‘experienced' Florian Wirtz, admits he needs time to adapt

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has praised summer signing Florian Wirtz ahead of Friday evening's season-opener against Bournemouth. The Reds spent a fortune to bring Wirtz to Anfield from Bayer Leverkusen, splashing a mouth-watering British record £116 million on him. Liverpool paid an initial £100m, while the additional £16m is tied to performance-related add-ons. Wirtz is still finding his feet in England, but his pre-season performances gave the Liverpool fans a glimpse of what to expect this season. He scored in the 3-1 pre-season win against Yokohama F Marinos and set up fellow summer arrival Hugo Ekitike for his debut goal against Crystal Palace in the Community Shield. Liverpool ultimately fell short on penalties after both sides played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at Wembley Stadium. With the curtain-raiser on the horizon, Slot did his best to take some of the pressure off Wirtz's shoulders as the German playmaker prepares to make his Premier League debut. 'He might be young, but he's already won a lot,' Slot said in his pre-match press conference. 'I don't think we can see him as a young player, but he is experienced. 'He won the Bundesliga, plays for Germany, and his mentality is his biggest strength. He doesn't get distracted by the transfer fee. 'Good players always find a way to play good football. But in videos and training ground, he needs to understand what we want. 'We want to be intense. Xabi Alonso tried to bring him into positions we want to, but it's true he has to adjust to England, intensity and his new team-mates.' Liverpool are heading into Friday's season-opener as overwhelming favourites as they take on a Bournemouth squad that has been picked apart this summer. One of the narratives that could dominate the headlines would be the performance of Hungarian left back Milos Kerkez, who is expected to make his Liverpool debut against his former employers.

Liverpool to make FINAL offer to contract rebel

Liverpool's contract offers to players have elicited a mixed response lately. Trent Alexander-Arnold was the crown jewel of the academy graduates, a homegrown right-back phenomenon who simply didn't think the club was at the pinnacle of the sport, despite the Reds winning the Premier League title by 10 points over Arsenal to tie Manchester United on 20 titles. 🔴 Shop the LFC 2025/26 adidas home range 🚨2025/26 LFC x adidas range🚨 LFC x adidas Shop the away range TODAY LFC x adidas Shop the home range today! Of course, the Reds are an elite club, but in the Englishman's mind, a move to Real Madrid was something he simply couldn't go without. He declined the club's approach and left on a 'free'. 🔴 Shop the LFC 2025/26 adidas away range Meanwhile, the Reds' two other big leaders in Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk showed their dedication to the club by signing new deals, and committing to Liverpool until 2027 at least. Now it's Konate's turn to face the music Once Salah and Van Dijk had signed their new contracts, the fans were given a chance to breathe and forget about the complexities of player negotiations, simply focusing on celebrating the title win. But it soon became apparent that this would be a make or break summer for Ibrahima Konate and while we initially received encouragement that he would re-sign with us, nothing has happened yet. After the match against Tottenham that won Liverpool the Premier League, the Frenchman was pictured sitting in the stands at Anfield, pondering over how the celebrating fans must have felt. It made him emotional and you felt as though the bond he had with us would convince him to stay. A series of contract talks then unfolded once the season had formally drawn to a close, over six months since Liverpool first looked to negotiate with Konate to try and tie him down to a new deal. But they were unsuccessful, as differing valuations caused a breakdown in talks and now it's August, just a few days before the new season begins and we're none the wiser as to what will happen. Paris Saint Germain were said to have been interested, but their successful approach for IIlya Zabarnyi from Bournemouth suggests they may no longer be in the market for a defender. Meanwhile, Real Madrid are always on the hunt for a bargain and are even more interested when it comes to free transfers. MARCA, a Spanish website, has recently published a report on Konate's situation, claiming that it's still possible for the player to leave in finals weeks of the transfer window. In their report, it said: "Liverpool's directors don't want a repeat of the Alexander-Arnold affair, and are putting pressure on Konate in every way possible to renew his contract, all so that he doesn't leave the English club, leaving nothing or very little in return, as was the case with the now Real Madrid player, who, without the Club World Cup, would have left nothing in the Premier League champions' coffers. "As MARCA has learned, the English club plans to renew the Frenchman's contract in the coming days. If the player rejects the offer again, the situation would change radically, and the possibility of Konate being put on the market would become more than a reality. In fact, the Frenchman and Van Dijk are the only healthy centre-backs Slot currently has." Of course, the reliability of this information is to be doubted, since Liverpool would be massively shooting themselves in the foot if they allowed Konate to leave this summer. If him extending his contract isn't on the cards for us, then letting him go in January might well be a considered option. But until moves for linked players such as Marc Guehi and Giovanni Leoni are agreed, then nothing will happen with Konate regardless. He's been happy in and around the squad this summer and so there is reason to be optimistic with our chances of keeping him, but the can of works regarding his future is unlikely to be opened this summer. His importance to the side is greater than a transfer fee. Nonetheless, keep an eye on this saga, because we'll eventually get an update, positive or negative, ignoring the issue isn't an option. Eventually he'll need to face the music, just as we will as a club.

Premier League Soccer: Livestream Every Game of the 2025-26 Season From Anywhere

The world's most-watched soccer league returns this week with what looks set to be the most competitive English Premier League season in recent memory. Below, we'll outline the best live TV streaming services to use to watch Premier League games as they happen, wherever you are in the world, and how to use a VPN if it's not available where you are. Despite ending last season with a clear 10-point lead, Liverpool comes into this new campaign with a significantly overhauled squad. Big-money summer signings Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Hugo Ekitiké and Florian Wirtz replace the outgoing Trent Alexander-Armstrong, Darwin Núñez and Luis Díaz. Having seen its recent dominance upended with a surprisingly meek campaign last time out, Pep Guardiola's Manchester City has also dipped heavily into the transfer market this summer, with left back Rayan Ait-Nouri, goalkeeper James Trafford, Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders and exciting French winger Rayan Cherki all brought in. Winner of this summer's FIFA Club World Cup, Chelsea will be seen by many as one of Liverpool's main threats, while London rivals Arsenal will be hopeful of finally going one step further after three successive second-place finishes, having added significant reinforcements, too. Leeds, Burnley and Sunderland join the league this year, with the northern trio aiming to defy the growing pattern of promoted teams tumbling straight back to the Championship. Kicking off with the opening fixture of Liverpool vs. Bournemouth at Anfield on Friday, Aug. 14 (kickoff is at 12 p.m. PT, 3 p.m. ET, 8 p.m. BST and 5 a.m. AEST), the new season runs until the final fixtures on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
