You can own a functional version of Jeff Koons' Balloon Dog sculptures for $750

The Verge11-06-2025
Jeff Koons, best known for his Balloon Dog sculptures that have sold for as much as $58 million, has collaborated with Lexon Design and The Broad museum in Los Angeles to make his iconic artworks more functional and accessible.
Available for preorder through Lexon's website starting June 17th are a new 11-inch tall Balloon Dog Speaker and Balloon Dog Lamp that are each made from (an unspecified) 'high-quality translucent material' that reveals the internal electronics that make each more than just a piece of art. Both are only being produced in a 'limited supply' and each one will set you back $750 with shipping expected to start sometime in October 2025.
That is extremely expensive, and you're definitely paying a premium because this is an official collaboration with Koons. But to Lexon's credit, at least on paper, the company seems to have packed these with solid hardware. Inside the Balloon Dog Speaker are a total of 'six ultra-precise active drivers and four finely tuned passive radiators' designed to deliver 360-degrees of 'high-fidelity sound.' We haven't had a chance to test the sound quality of those drivers, but that's more than similarly-sized Bluetooth speakers that aren't shaped like a novelty dog often utilize.
The speaker connects to mobile devices using Bluetooth 5.0, and with built-in microphones it can be used as a hands-free speakerphone. If you've got $1,500 burning a hole in your pocket, you can also pair two of the Balloon Dog Speakers to create a true stereo sound experience.
Inside the Balloon Dog Lamp you'll find nearly 400 LEDs hidden in tubes that create the appearance of neon lighting. All combined, the LEDs can generate up to 200 lumens of brightness with color options that include warm and cool white light plus the full spectrum of color lighting. Although preorders are limited to just two of each piece, Lexon says its 'Easy Sync technology' allows the lighting intensity and color of an 'infinite number of Balloon Dog Lamps' to be synchronized so you can destroy your budget by filling a room, or your entire home, with matching illumination.

Taylor Swift announces new album 'The Life of a Showgirl' — what we know about Swift's 12th album

Taylor Nation teased the upcoming album with an Instagram post featuring 12 photos of the artist in orange. It's been a long time coming…and now, we have a title for Taylor Swift's 12th album. The new work, titled The Life of a Showgirl, was announced via a video clip from the upcoming Wednesday, Aug. 13 episode of Travis and Jason Kelce's podcast New Heights. It was shared on Instagram at 12:12 a.m. E.T. on Tuesday, Aug. 12 as a nod to Swift's 12th album. In the clip, Swift shows the brothers a briefcase, which is mint green with the letters T.S. on it. "This is my brand new album, The Life of a Showgirl," the singer declared. The album cover has not yet been revealed, and Swift's website shows only a blurred orange and green image with a lock on the cover. However, fans can already pre-order the vinyl, cassette and CD editions. Thus far, there is no tracklist for the album, so fans will have to stay tuned. There is also no release date: though the website states pre-orders will ship Oct. 13, it also said that an official date will be shared at a later date. Eagle-eyed Swifties first noticed something was in the works with the Eras Tour icon on Aug. 11, when Taylor Nation — the official platform for all things Swift — took to social media to share a post featuring 12 photos of Swift, all in the same shade of orange. The caption of the post was 'Thinking about when she said 'See you next era…'' along with a red heart surrounded by orange flames. Meanwhile, Swift's boyfriend, Travis Kelce, announced that Swift would be the surprise guest on his and his brother Jason Kelce's New Heights podcast episode dropping on Wednesday. The brothers initially hinted that Swift could be joining them in a post Monday afternoon that featured Travis in Swift merch with a sparkly orange background, which fans caught on to immediately. The 12th album marks Swift's first new music release since announcing that she officially owns her first six albums after a lengthy battle over her master recordings. The artist began a re-recording project after she learned in 2019 that her masters were sold to Scooter Braun against her will. Swift went on to release enormously successful 'Taylor's Versions' of her 2008 album Fearless, her 2010 album Speak Now, her 2012 album Red, and her 2014 album 1989, and now owns the original works as well. 'To say this is my greatest dream come true is actually being pretty reserved about it,' Swift wrote in a letter to fans posted on her website when she purchased her masters. 'All I've ever wanted was the opportunity to work hard enough to be able to one day purchase my music outright with no strings attached, no partnership, with full autonomy.' While fans were initially anticipating re-recordings of her 2006 self-titled album and her 2017 album Reputation to be among her next releases, Swift instead appears to be focusing on making new music. Musk says he plans to sue Apple for not featuring X or Grok among its top apps

Billionaire SpaceX, Tesla and X owner Elon Musk says he plans to sue Apple for not featuring X and its Grok artificial intelligence chatbot app in its top recommended apps in its App Store. Musk posted the comments on X late Monday, saying, 'Hey @Apple App Store, why do you refuse to put either X or Grok in your 'Must Have' section when X is the #1 news app in the world and Grok is #5 among all apps? Are you playing politics? What gives? Inquiring minds want to know.'
