You can own a functional version of Jeff Koons' Balloon Dog sculptures for $750

The Verge4 days ago

Jeff Koons, best known for his Balloon Dog sculptures that have sold for as much as $58 million, has collaborated with Lexon Design and The Broad museum in Los Angeles to make his iconic artworks more functional and accessible.
Available for preorder through Lexon's website starting June 17th are a new 11-inch tall Balloon Dog Speaker and Balloon Dog Lamp that are each made from (an unspecified) 'high-quality translucent material' that reveals the internal electronics that make each more than just a piece of art. Both are only being produced in a 'limited supply' and each one will set you back $750 with shipping expected to start sometime in October 2025.
That is extremely expensive, and you're definitely paying a premium because this is an official collaboration with Koons. But to Lexon's credit, at least on paper, the company seems to have packed these with solid hardware. Inside the Balloon Dog Speaker are a total of 'six ultra-precise active drivers and four finely tuned passive radiators' designed to deliver 360-degrees of 'high-fidelity sound.' We haven't had a chance to test the sound quality of those drivers, but that's more than similarly-sized Bluetooth speakers that aren't shaped like a novelty dog often utilize.
The speaker connects to mobile devices using Bluetooth 5.0, and with built-in microphones it can be used as a hands-free speakerphone. If you've got $1,500 burning a hole in your pocket, you can also pair two of the Balloon Dog Speakers to create a true stereo sound experience.
Inside the Balloon Dog Lamp you'll find nearly 400 LEDs hidden in tubes that create the appearance of neon lighting. All combined, the LEDs can generate up to 200 lumens of brightness with color options that include warm and cool white light plus the full spectrum of color lighting. Although preorders are limited to just two of each piece, Lexon says its 'Easy Sync technology' allows the lighting intensity and color of an 'infinite number of Balloon Dog Lamps' to be synchronized so you can destroy your budget by filling a room, or your entire home, with matching illumination.

Apple Releases a "Haptic" Feel Trailer For Brad Pitt's F1 Racing Movie — GeekTyrant

Apple has released a fun new trailer for director Joseph Kosinski's F1 movie that you can only watch on your phone. This trailer features "haptic" vibration feedback when you watch it. This looks like a great movie and I'm excited about watching it, especially with Kosinski directing as he is such a talented technical director who knows how to take audeinces on a wild thrill ride! In the film, 'Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), a Formula One driver who raced in the 1990s, has a horrible crash, forcing him to retire from Formula One and start racing in other disciplines. A Formula One team owner and friend contacts Hayes and asks him to come out of retirement to mentor rookie prodigy Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris) on the Apex Grand Prix team.' The movie also stars Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Javier Bardem, Sarah Niles, Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, and lots of F1 drivers and team members as themselves. This special "haptic" trailer can only be watched on Apple phones using the Apple TV app. When you play it, the rumble of the Formula One cars can be felt in your hands. It's a fun promo gimmick. Dakota Johnson Recently Worked With Her First Intimacy Coordinator: 'It's Not Sexy'

Despite her decade-long tenure as a leading lady, Dakota Johnson has had to do a lot of the heavy onscreen lifting without any help. The Materialists star joked she's 'always psyched up' for sex scenes as she recently opened up about working with an intimacy coordinator the first time in her career on a movie she recently filmed. More from Deadline Dakota Johnson Delivers Damning Diagnosis On Hollywood's Risk-Aversion: 'It's All A Bit Of A Mess' 'Materialists' Review: Dakota Johnson Measures Value Of Love Between Chris Evans And Pedro Pascal in Celine Song's Sublime Romcomdram 'Rivals' Author Jilly Cooper Gives View On Intimacy Coordinators Ahead Of Disney+ Comedy-Drama's Second Season 'And she was really great,' raved Johnson on the Good Hang podcast. 'It was so cool because I'm so used to—you know, it's a sex scene. It's not sexy. It doesn't feel good. In addition to some of the more absurd aspects of filming a sex scene, like 'slamming myself into a headboard,' Johnson detailed for host Amy Poehler what goes into preparing to film an intimate sequence. 'First, I think it depends on, who is the character, and who is the character supposed to be to the audience,' she explained. 'Is she a super idolized hot girl? Is she a housewife? Is she lonely? Is she scared? Is she conservative?' Johnson continued, 'So, that's obviously character work, but then certain prep would go into it. I want to feel good in my body if I'm showing my body. My mom raised me to be really, really proud of my body and love my body. So, I've always felt so grateful for that, especially in my work because I can use it and it feels real.' Since her breakout role in 2015's Fifty Shades of Grey adaptation, Johnson has come to appreciate the importance of a good sex scene as the romantic lead of films like How to Be Single (2016), Cha Cha Real Smooth (2022), Am I OK? (2022), Persuasion (2022) and Splitsville, which debuted last month at Cannes. 'So, I guess in my work, it's something that I feel brave with and that I feel, when it's used the right way in a story, it's important,' said Johnson, whose latest film Materialists is now in theaters.
