FSB Thwarts Series of Attacks on Police Officers
Moscow - (Saba):
The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) announced that it had thwarted a series of attacks on police officers in the Stavropol Territory, which were planned for May 9 by a group of minors supporting an international terrorist organization.
The Russian news agency TASS quoted the Russian intelligence service as saying in a statement: "Russian Federal Security Service officers, in cooperation with the Investigative Committee and the Ministry of Interior, were able to prevent a series of terrorist crimes in the Stavropol Territory in southern Russia. During the security operation, nine local residents who supported an international terrorist organization were detained."
The statement indicated that one of the minors voluntarily joined the organization through social media in 2024 and later recruited eight other residents of the region, seven of whom were minors.
According to the statement, "On May 9 of this year, the criminals planned to attack police officers during the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War in one of the municipalities of the Stavropol Territory. However, they were unable to carry out their plans because security forces uncovered their plot and arrested them."
They are currently being investigated after being charged under Part 2 of Article 205.5 (organizing the activities of a terrorist organization and participating in the activities of such an organization) and Part 1.1 of Article 205.1 (assisting terrorist activity) of the Russian Criminal Code.
Russian Investigative Committee spokeswoman Svetlana Petrenko told TASS that the investigation established that one of the minors joined the ranks of a terrorist organization in 2024. He then "used persuasion to recruit a relative and seven of his peers between the ages of 14 and 16 to join this terrorist organization."

Kremlin: Putin told Trump Russia will respond to "Kyiv" over airport attacks
Moscow – Saba: Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson for the Russian presidency (the Kremlin), confirmed on Thursday that Russian President Vladimir Putin informed his U.S. counterpart, Donald Trump, that Russia intends to respond to Kyiv over the "terrorist" attacks carried out by Ukraine on several Russian airports. When asked by journalists whether Putin had indeed told Trump during their conversation that Russia would retaliate for the attacks on its airports, Peskov replied, "Yes, absolutely," according to Russia's Sputnik news agency. Peskov added, when questioned about whether the tone of the Putin-Trump conversation had shifted from previous talks and whether it was less friendly: "Here, you might be asking more about the emotional undertones. The conversation, I repeat, was constructive, and perhaps it's not logical to focus on its duration. Sometimes, important matters can be addressed in a shorter timeframe—which was the case yesterday." He noted that the discussion between Putin and Trump was "constructive and necessary," adding, "The two presidents indeed discussed many fundamental and important issues." Peskov stated that there are no agreements between Presidents Putin and Trump to arrange a meeting. He further emphasized, "During yesterday's phone call, U.S. President Donald Trump said he had no information about the preparation of this terrorist act by the Kyiv regime. But if we speak broadly about the international assessment, we would naturally prefer to hear at least a strong condemnation of this terrorist act." Peskov confirmed that Russia's response to Ukraine's "terrorist strikes" on Russian airports would be determined by the military in whatever manner it deems appropriate. When asked whether the Kremlin would cut off communications with Ukraine if Kyiv repeated attacks on civilian targets, Peskov told reporters: "As you know, during yesterday's meeting, our Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed the view that, despite everything, working-level communications should continue. The president supported this position." U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he had held a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, noting that the conversation lasted one hour and 15 minutes. On his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote: "Just finished a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The call lasted one hour and fifteen minutes." He added, "They discussed the attack on Russian aircraft by Ukraine, as well as various other attacks from both sides." Trump continued: "The conversation was good, but not the kind that would lead to immediate peace. President Putin also strongly emphasized that he would have to respond to the recent attack on the airports." Whatsapp Telegram Email Print more of (International)

Putin: Kyiv regime doesn't want peace—It would mean losing power
Moscow – Saba: Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on Wednesday that the current Kyiv regime has no interest in peace, as it would likely mean losing power. For them, maintaining control is more important than peace or the lives of people. During a video meeting with Russian government officials, Putin accused Kyiv's authorities of lacking "even the most basic political culture." He claimed that recent crimes against civilians, including women and children, were deliberately committed ahead of a new round of Russia-Ukraine negotiations to disrupt the peace process. "All the crimes against civilians before the proposed Istanbul peace talks were clearly aimed at sabotaging negotiations. These attacks on civilians were intentional," Putin said. He further criticized Ukrainian officials, stating, "We are dealing with people who lack competence in everything, even basic political decency. They make irresponsible statements targeting those trying to negotiate with them." Putin also alleged that decisions on "terrorist attacks" in Russia's Bryansk and Kursk regions were made at Ukraine's political level. "The recent railway explosions in Bryansk and Kursk were acts of terrorism, and such decisions were undoubtedly made by Ukraine's political leadership," he asserted. He described the Bryansk incident as a deliberate attack on civilians, emphasizing that such actions qualify as terrorism under international standards. Additionally, Putin claimed that Ukraine is suffering heavy losses and retreating along the frontlines. "Today, faced with massive casualties and setbacks across the entire combat zone, Kyiv's leadership has resorted to terrorism to intimidate Russia," he said.
