Eubank Jr and Benn rematch to take place in November

RTÉ News06-08-2025
Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn's rematch will take place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in November.
The men had been due to go head to head for a second time on 20 September but, with Eubank Jr claiming he would not be ready for that date, the bout has now been scheduled for Saturday, 15 November.
Eubank Jr won a ferocious first meeting, fought at the 160lb middleweight limit, on a unanimous points decision, with all three judges scoring the contest 116-112 at the same venue in April.
He later claimed he had undergone eye surgery after being "headbutted" by Benn and spent two nights in hospital as a result of severe dehydration.
The fight captured the imagination of boxing fans after rekindling memories of the fierce rivalry between their fathers three decades earlier.
Chis Eubank Sr, who had seemingly been estranged from his son for some time, made a surprise appearance before the bout and the pair shared an emotional greeting.
Eubank Sr later said his son had "upheld the family name" after inflicting the first defeat of Benn's professional career.
In a social media post, shared in an Instagram story by Saudi kingpin Turki Alalshikh, Ring Magazine said: "The Ring has learned Sela completed the deal for the highly anticipated Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Conor Benn rematch on 15 November in Tottenham Stadium.
"The event will be presented as 'The Ring: Unfinished Business'.

Rossiter and Hegarty to remain in charge of Wexford hurlers and footballers

KEITH ROSSITER will return as Wexford senior hurling manager at the next county board meeting. The Oulart-the-Ballagh clubman will be afforded a third season in charge, but has yet to name his management team. While Rossiter had an impressive start during his first year, his second in charge ended in bitter disappointment as the team nosedived both in league and championship. Wexford were relegated from Division 1A of the Allianz National Hurling League, but their championship exploits were even more disappointing, with the side failing to qualify for the provincial final, while also missing out on the All-Ireland series. Rossiter will no doubt be tasked with returning the side to Division 1A hurling, but it's not yet known if any further players will follow Matthew O'Hanlon, Dee O'Keeffe and Liam Óg McGovern into retirement. A boost for Rossiter is that the injury-hit Liam Ryan has returned to club hurling, figuring prominently with Rapparees in the senior hurling championship, having missed this year's inter-county campaign through injury and health reasons, while also missing out on much of the 2024 campaign. Meanwhile, John Hegarty is returning for a fourth year in charge of the county's senior footballers. Wexford achieved their long-sought-after promotion to Division 3 of the Allianz League, with the Kilanerin clubman hoping to build on that progress and improve their championship showing. Both managers' nominations were approved at Monday night's meeting of the county management committee and will be brought before the county board for ratification. Ronan Joyce (Shelmaliers) and Dylan Gregan (Castletown) have both been returned as Under-20 hurling and U20 football managers.

Why Dillian Whyte faces being stripped of his greatest weapon in Moses Itauma fight and how he can overcome it

CAPTAIN hook Dillian Whyte faces being stripped of his best punch against Moses Itauma - so he will have to come armed with a different weapon. Whyte takes on red-hot 20-year-old prospect Itauma in the sizzling Saudi heat on Saturday - live on DAZN PPV. 4 Dillian Whyte landing a trademark left hook on Joseph Parker Credit: Getty And astonishingly, it will be on the SECOND time Whyte has ever faced a southpaw opponent in his 34 professional fights so far. The last time he did was against journeyman Tomas Mrazek at the Camden Centre in Kings Cross - which has a capacity of around 1,000. Since then, Whyte has earned millions from boxing while challenging for the WBC world title in 2022, losing by knockout to Tyson Fury. The Body Snatcher - as he is affectionately known for his work to the midsection - has also developed one of the most dangerous left hooks in that time. READ MORE IN boxing Itauma vs Whyte All the details you need as British heavyweights clash in Saudi But the punch - especially as a counter while catching the opponent's shot on the gloves - is harder to land on a southpaw due to the angle of stances. Trainer Mark Tibbs - who had four years and 11 fights with Whyte before their split in 2020 - recognises his former boxer is at risk of being debilitated against leftie Itauma. Tibbs said on SunSport's No Glove Lost episode: 'Unless Moses is throwing a big hook, catch and whip, Dillian loves doing that, catching the shot and whipping the hook. 'But, he's got to get the right hand off as well, in my opinion.' 4 MOSES ITAUMA VS DILLIAN WHYTE: ALL THE DETAILS YOU NEED AHEAD OF HUGE HEAVYWEIGHT BOUT WATCH ITAUMA VS WHYTE LIVE ON DAZN CASINO SPECIAL - BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS Anthony Yarde - who lost in his two brave light-heavyweight titles challenges to Sergey Kovalev and Artur Beterbeiv - was in agreement. And he looked to fellow guest on the panel, Derek Chisora, as an example of how Whyte should approach the bout against Itauma. Yarde, 34, said: 'For him to be catching and countering Moses, it has to be fast. "For him to give Moses trouble or upset Moses, I personally think he's just got to be a veteran. 'Derek will now, you drag them down. Even (Chisora's) last fight against Otto (Wallin) I was thinking, is that Derek? Because he put it on him. 'Every time it was, bap, bap, bap, let him have it! Take that and see how you like it. It's calculated.' With Whyte's famous left hook potentially being nullified - Tibbs believes the right hand will need to be more deadly than ever before. He said: 'I'd like Dillian to try get his lead foot on the outside the best he can and get his right hand off because he's fighting the southpaw. 'But he will have to use that left hand as a bit of a shield and get in mid range as early as possible. 'They don't call him The Body Snatcher for nothing, so we're going to have to get round that body and try and unsettle and not let Moses be pretty. 'But Moses is fleet-footed, it's a difficult task but Dillian's got the experience, I'm sure he's got the desire and he's a fighting man. 'Unless Moses is throwing a big hook, catch and whip, Dillian loves doing that, catching the shot and whipping the hook. 'But, he's got to get the right hand off as well, in my opinion.' Tibbs - who never cornered Whyte against a southpaw - called on him to try and drag Itauma into a fight the youngster has never experienced before. The trainer said: 'He's got a difficult task but if I was Dillian, he's got to do his utmost to edge him back and put him on his heels. Not too many men can fight on their heels. 'But Moses, like Derek says, is a fresh, fresh lion. He's a sharp shooter, a great counter puncher, but it's a cracking match. 'Moses needs a Dillian Whyte right now to see where he's at. The fans need to see where he's at, we need to see where Moses is at. 'He's 12 fights in, it's not a great deal. It's a cracking match and what makes it a cracking match is Dillian's mentality - like I've said before - and equally Moses' mentality.' 4 Mark Tibbs formerly coached Whyte Credit: Getty

Tyson Fury marries wife Paris for third time nearly two decades after first wedding

Tyson Fury has married his wife Paris for the third time in an intimate ceremony. The boxer, who announced that he's 'coming out of his latest retirement' to fight Oleksandr Usyk for the third time next April, has completed the trilogy of marriages with his wife Paris, whom he married for the first time in 2008 when he was starting his professional boxing career. The couple, who share seven children together, got married again in the south of France, with the Gypsy King joking that it's 'third time lucky' for him and Paris. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Tyson Fury (@tysonfury) 'Paris Fury and I got married again; third time lucky,' Tyson wrote on his Instagram. 'We had the most beautiful day in the South of France, it holds a lot of special memories for us,' while the song Marry You played in the background. The pics showed the couple renewing their vows in an intimate ceremony surrounded by their kids, with everyone in the family dressed in white and cream. The couple met when Tyson was 17 and Paris was 15, with them marrying in 2008 when Tyson began his illustrious boxing career. The couple share seven children together: four sons, Prince John James, Prince Tyson II, Prince Adonis Amaziah, Prince Rico, and three daughters Venezuela, Valencia and Athena. Pic: Tyson Fury/Instagram Tyson announced his second retirement from the ring earlier this year when he lost his second fight to Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk, but has since announced that he was looking to come out of retirement to fight Usyk for the third time in Wembley next April. However, Tyson has seemed to have walked back on his potential comeback, saying at Doncaster racecourse earlier this month that he's 'never' getting back in the ring. '[I'm] too old. Look at my beard, all grey. Boxing's a young man's game.' Tyson and Paris share seven children together, and wed for the first time in 2008. Pic: Tyson Fury/Instagram Tyson shared a photo of he and Usyk for the potential trilogy fight on his Instagram last month, while Saudi boxing promoter Turki Al-Sheikh posted on Instagram that he'd be back for a trilogy with the current heavyweight champ in Usyk. 'The 'Gypsy King' will be back!!!' Mr Al-Sheikh wrote on Instagram. 'I talked with him, and I have his word to have him in Riyadh Season in 2026… We have a rabbit to hunt!' The rabbit in question being Usyk, who was called that by Usyk during their first two fights. Despite Mr Al-Sheikh saying that the trilogy fight will take place in Saudi Arabia, Fury himself has said that it will occur in Wembley Stadium in April 2026. 'April 18 2026 Wembley Stadium. The trilogy!' he wrote on Thursday morning.
