TV Globo has recovered the exclusive broadcast rights for Formula One in Brazil in a three-year deal from 2026 after being absent since 2020, the sport announced on Friday.
The broadcaster held the rights for more than 40 years until Bandeirantes took over in 2021.
The deal will give Brazilian fans free-to-air live access to 15 of the 24 races while the remainder will be on Globo's pay channel, sportv.
No financial details were given.
With 20-year-old Sauber rookie Gabriel Bortoleto, last year's Formula Two champion, Brazil has a full-time Formula One driver on the grid this season for the first time since Felipe Massa retired in 2017.
Brazil, home country of world champions Emerson Fittipaldi, Nelson Piquet and the late Ayrton Senna, also has the only South American round of the championship with a race at Sao Paulo's Interlagos circuit. REUTERS

Euro 2025 group games draw record crowds

Find out what's new on ST website and app. OBERENTFELDEN, Switzerland - The group stage of the Women's European Championship which finished on Sunday had record-breaking attendances with close to half a million fans attending games, and 22 of the 24 of them sold out. As well as 461,582 fans attending matches, there were several individual game records as well, according to European soccer's governing body UEFA. The Germany v Denmark match in Basel drew 34,165 fans, which was the highest attendance at a group game not involving the host nation and the most spectators to attend a women's football match in Switzerland. The more than 17,000 fans from Germany at that game was the most away fans to attend a women's Euro match ever while the crowd of 34,063 at Switzerland's game against Norway was a record crowd at a Swiss women's national team match. "If it was not clear before, it is undeniable now – women's football is unstoppable and here to stay," Nadine Kessler, UEFA's head of women's football, said in a statement. "This is more than a tournament; its' a movement, and the response from across Europe and beyond proves that women's football is not only here to stay – it is setting the new standard." Even before the tournament kicked off, Euro 2025 had sold more than 600,000 tickets to surpass the 574,875 sold in 2022 in England. Some 60,000 fans took part in fan walks to the stadiums, including 14,000 Swiss and Icelandic supporters who walked three kilometres to that game at the Stadion Wankdorf in Bern. The tournament has also been a success on digital platforms, with 8.4 million engagements across its social media platforms, a 55% increase over the same period in 2022. Spain and England scored 14 goals apiece in the group stage, matching the mark set by the English in 2022. Wales' Jess Fishlock became the oldest women's Euro goalscorer at the age of 38 years and 176 days. The quarter-finals begin in Geneva on Wednesday when Norway play Italy. REUTERS

Tense exchanges made Lord's test more exciting, says Gill

Find out what's new on ST website and app. Cricket - International Test Match Series - Third Test - England v India - Lord's Cricket Ground, London, Britain - July 11, 2025 India's Shubman Gill walks after losing his wicket Action Images via Reuters/Peter Cziborra/File Photo LONDON - Heated exchanges between England and India players made the Lord's test more exciting and challenging, India captain Shubman Gill said after England took a 2-1 lead in the series with a dramatic 22-run win on Monday. Tension flared between the teams during the intense third test, with Gill sarcastically clapping England batters for unnecessary delays, and India fast bowler Mohammed Siraj roaring in the face of England opener Ben Duckett after taking his wicket. Siraj was fined 15% of his match fee for his aggressive behaviour. "You're giving everything, mentally, physically. There would be times when there would be a little bit of heat from both sides. But I think that's what makes it so exciting, more challenging," Gill told a news conference. "At the end of the day, there's a lot of admiration within the two teams. Both the teams try their best to win." Gill said staying calm under pressure would be crucial going forward in the five-match series. "The longer the match goes, shows how well both the teams are balanced. It's just a matter of which team keeps their calm and composure longer," he said. Top stories Swipe. Select. Stay informed. SINGAPORE – The start of the open water swimming competition at the World Aquatics Championships has been postponed by a day due to concerns over water quality off Sentosa, the organisers announced early on July 15. The women's 10km race, which was scheduled to kick off the open water programme on July 15 morning, will now be held on July 16. A total of 69 athletes had been expected to compete in the first event of the competition. The men's 10km race, initially planned for July 16, will still take place on the same day – before the women's event. The remaining events – the men's and women's 5km (July 18), 3km knockout sprint (July 19), and the mixed 4x1,500m relay (July 20) – are set to proceed as scheduled. In a statement, World Aquatics said: 'While testing in recent days has consistently shown water quality at the venue to meet World Aquatics' acceptable thresholds, analysis of samples taken on 13 July surpassed these thresholds.'
