Gear up to adopt technology and shift to natural farming, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu advises farmers in Andhra Pradesh
Addressing the farmers at the launch of Annadata Sukhibhava-PM KISAN scheme at East Veerayapalem village of Darsi mandal in Prakasam district on Saturday, Mr. Naidu said farmers would get suggestions based on a study on best yield crops, and they must follow the instructions.
'The government has solved many problems of the farmers using new technologies. As there is no market for crops such as tobacco and groundnut, it is planning to encourage aquaculture in the coastal districts, horticulture in the Rayalaseema region, and commercial crops in other areas,' Mr. Naidu said.
'The NDA government is working tirelessly to sustain agriculture and improve the livelihoods of the farmers. I urge the farmers to shift towards natural farming, while reducing the use of fertilizers and pesticides,' he said.
Drip irrigation
'Though the previous government has cancelled the subsidy on drip irrigation to the farmers, we have revived it and are giving 100% subsidy for the Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Tribes in Prakasam and Rayalaseema districts, and 70% subsidy in the coastal districts,' he said.
'The previous year, we expanded drip irrigation to 1,17,880 hectares, benefiting more than 1.11 lakh farmers. Andhra Pradesh is No.1 State in the country in drip irrigation,' the Chief Minister said, adding the government was supplying power to aqua farmers at ₹1.50 per unit.
'We have increased the assistance from ₹10,000 to ₹20,000 under the Matsyakarulo Sevalo shecme. We have provided ₹259 crore to 1,29,178 fishermen families. We have provided agricultural implements worth ₹61 crore to 26,000 farmers at 50% subsidy,' he said.
The government would be establishing the country's largest Drone City at Orvakal in Kurnool district. 'It is preparing use cases and research is under way. About 875 Kisan Drones will soon be available for cultivation. It has set a target of providing another 1,000 Kisan Drones in this year's budget,' he said.
Linking of rivers
'As water is the most important resource for agriculture in rain-dependent areas, the government is planning to connect all rivers. The Polavaram project gives us an opportunity to divert river water to agricultural fields, which otherwise will flow waste into the sea,' Mr. Naidu said, assuring to complete the project by December 2027.
'About eight years ago, I had provided water to the Krishna Delta through the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation scheme. In the future, we will tell farmers in advance which crop to be cultivated based on weather and water availability. The farmers must go for cultivation accordingly,' he said.

Govt panel to conduct survey to identify farmers in need of loan waiver in Maharashtra, says BJP minister Bawankule
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Maharashtra govt has formed a committee to conduct a survey to identify farmers who really need a loan waiver, revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said on Thursday. Talking to reporters in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, he said the exercise to list farmers who actually need a loan waiver and weed out cultivators who are not eligible for such reliefs will be completed soon. "There are people who construct farm houses and are on the list of loan waivers. A committee has been formed to find the actual needy farmers. A survey will be conducted through this committee and the needy farmers will be listed for loan waiver," stated the BJP minister. "The EVM is good when they win and it is bad when they lose elections. Leaders from opposition parties are joining us [BJP] from various parts of Maharashtra. This [EVM manipulation claim] is also an effort to stop their party workers [from joining other outfits]," he said. In reply to a question, Bawankule sought to downplay deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde's frequent New Delhi visits. "As a leader of the [BJP-led] NDA alliance, it is obvious [for Shinde] to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. If co-ordination or dialogue is not good, then we cannot move ahead. Dialogue and discussion on issues is important in the NDA," the BJP leader emphasised. YSRCP slams Naidu govt for neglecting weavers, breaking handloom promises
The YSRCP on Thursday accused the NDA-led Andhra Pradesh government of "neglecting" the handloom sector and "abandoning" key pre-poll promises, alleging that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's administration had "betrayed the weaver community and pushed them into distress." YSRCP leaders hit out at Naidu govt on National Handloom Day, accusing it of abandoning weavers and failing to act on key welfare promises made before polls.(CMO Andhra Pradesh-X) YSRCP leaders, including MLC Lella Appi Reddy, Surendra Babu, and Chillapalli Mohan Rao, said the government's inaction had deepened the crisis faced by weavers. This came after Naidu marked National Handloom Day with promises to support weavers and revive the handloom sector. "Naidu and his administration have betrayed weavers by abandoning election promises, leaving the community in crisis," the leaders alleged in a press release. Appi Reddy claimed that under the previous YSRCP government, benefits worth ₹3,700 crore were extended to the handloom sector, including ₹1.2 lakh each to 85,000 weaver families. He accused the NDA coalition of "making hollow and misleading promises". The YSRCP leaders criticised the current government for allegedly failing to implement schemes such as free electricity, GST relief, and health insurance for weavers, even after 14 months in power. Also Read: Chandrababu Naidu backs Hindi amid NEP row: 'Language is not for hating' Surendra Babu claimed that IT Minister Nara Lokesh had promised GST reimbursement, but no proposal had been brought before the GST Council to that effect. He alleged that the government continued to impose the same tax burden on weavers. He also alleged that the promised free electricity scheme remained unimplemented, even six months after an official order was issued. Chillapalli Mohan Rao claimed that the previous YSRCP government had tripled weavers' income and cleared dues worth ₹400 crore owed by the Andhra Pradesh State Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society (APCO). He added that showrooms were also constructed during Jagan Mohan Reddy's tenure, unlike the 'symbolic gestures' from the current administration. The YSRCP demanded immediate fulfillment of promises made to weavers, warning that "continued neglect would deepen the crisis in the sector."
