One person dead after ‘extensive' listeriosis outbreak linked to recall of over 140 ready-made meals

The Food Safety Authority (FSAI) of Ireland have said that there are nine cases of listeriosis confirmed as of Tuesday, July 22.
The authority also confirmed that the HSE Health Protection Surveillance Centre has been notified of and is investigating the death. The adult is confirmed to have had listeriosis.
The FSAI has recalled 141 different ready-made meals and side dishes sold in leading supermarkets across Ireland following a confirmed "extensive outbreak" of listeriosis.
The recalled products sold in Centra, Supervalu, Tesco, Aldi, Lidl and various other stores are produced by Ballymaguire Foods. The majority are products connected to the individual supermarket retailer, but brands like the Happy Pear are also included.
Products that are listed include chicken pasta bakes, turkey and ham dinners, spaghetti bolognese, beef stroganoff, chicken carbonara, beef lasagne, pilau rice and more.
Supervalu's 'Signature Taste', 'Freshly Prepared' and 'Supervalu' ranges are impacted.
Tesco's 'Irish Classics', 'Meals Made Easy' and 'Finest' ranges also have impacted products.
Centra's ranges 'Centra', 'Freshly Prepared', 'Kitchen', 'Fuel'd Foods', 'Clean Cut', 'Happy Pear', and 'Food to Go' also have affected products.
Aldi's 'Specially Selected' and 'Inspired Cuisine' contain affected products.

Notices have appeared in supermarkets including Supervalu. One notice urged consumers not to eat listed products. It also asked consumers to 'return it to your nearest store, where you will be issued a refund.
"We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your co-operation,' it continued.
The notice also included a helpline for Supervalu customers: 0214217619.
Symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes infection can include mild flu-like symptoms, or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. The incubation period is on average three weeks but can range between three and 70 days.

Aldi issues urgent recall of popular €2.79 item due to the presence of listeria

Aldi has issued an urgent recall on a popular pasta dish sold in its stores across Ireland due to the detection of the potentially deadly bacteria listeria monocytogenes. The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) announced on Wednesday (July 30) that Aldi was carrying out a recall of its Roast Chicken Pesto Pasta. The FSAI said that the supermarket chain is pulling the product from shelves due the presence of Listeria monocytogenes. However, the food safety watchdog said there is currently no evidence that this food recall is linked with the listeriosis outbreak related to ready-to-heat meals that has led to the death of one person or a separate recall of spinach and mixed leaves products that is also not linked to the listeriosis outbreak associated with the ready meals. The affected product being recalled is Aldi's Roast Chicken Pesto Pasta, with pack size 284g and a use-by date of 31/07/2025. The above batch of Roast Chicken Pesto Pasta is being recalled due to the presence of Listeria monocytogenes Retailers have been requested to remove the Roast Chicken Basil Pesto Pasta from sale and display recall notices at point-of-sale. Wholesalers/distributors are requested to contact their affected customers, recall the implicated batch and provide a point-of-sale recall notice to their retailer customers. The FSAI has warned customers "not to eat the implicated batch" due to the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes, a potentially deadly bacterium that causes food poisoning. Symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes infection can include mild flu-like symptoms, or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. In rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications. Some people are more vulnerable to Listeria monocytogenes infections, including pregnant women, babies, and people with weakened immune systems, including the elderly.
