Fair City star says birth of son has given him 'simpler way of looking at life'

Fair City star Ryan Andrews has told how he took no days off after the birth of his son, Rowen.
The star welcomed his first child with wife Michaela on September 16 last year.
Opening up about Rowen's arrival, the Dubliner said he had to rehearse 17 scenes during Michaela's labour in Holles Street Hospital in Dublin.
He told us: "Rowen was born on September 16. I had to call into RTE. Michaela went a day early. I didn't sleep in three days. I had to go into the busiest week of my life on Fair City.
"I had to do double scenes and at that time I used to MC the Late Late Show and we ran our stage school at three locations a week.
"We were writing the Olympia panto as well. I didn't have a day off until January 16.
"Michaela was in labour in Holles Street and I had 17 scenes to learn. I had the busiest two days.
"Between every scene and every break, I was at home. I wasn't neglecting my family but once January came, I just realised how fast Rowen had grown up."
He said since welcoming Rowen, he looks at life more simply.
"He's nine months old now. Sometimes, with babies, I never listen to anybody, even my mam. Like every child, every pregnancy is different. We found our own way.
"We're very lucky with him. Our whole lives have changed. It's all about Rowen now in the best possible way.
"Becoming a dad has put a lot of things into perspective. I used to worry about things for no reason.
"He makes us more happy than any job, or anything financial. It's a simpler way of looking at life."
Ryan joked that he's already starting his son in showbusiness as Rowen was the baby in The Ferryman when he was just four months old.
"We've been lucky in the industry… I would love for him to get into stage school, and I'd love him to learn because I don't remember anything from school, other than being on stage or stage school with friends."
Barnardos ambassador Ryan was speaking as he took part in a 12-hour Riverdanceathon at the Gaiety Theatre in Dublin to help raise money for the children's charity.
Over 580 dancers from dance schools across Ireland took part in the Riverdanceathon. Members of the Riverdance cast also joined in to start the event just before 10am on Thursday and again at lunchtime to perform three numbers from the show on the Gaiety Plaza as well as bringing it all to an end that evening.
Through this partnership Riverdance hopes to raise funds and awareness for the work of Barnardos. Each year for its summer run at the Gaiety, Riverdance partners with a charity.
Barnardos is Ireland's largest children's charity which helps and supports the most vulnerable children and families in society to achieve their full potential with the support of the public.

Ryan Tubridy responds to speculation he will run for the Irish Presidency

Ex-RTÉ star Ryan Tubridy has responded to messages from fans asking if he will be running for the Irish Presidency. The father-of-two has confirmed he will not be running for the Áras this year. The presenter, who currently hosts his own mid-morning show on Virgin Radio UK, broke his silence on the matter, confirming he wasn't planning on running for the gig. Taking to Instagram on Saturday, the Dubliner said: 'In answer to many Insta questions, two things I'm NOT doing this weekend: 1) Going to Oasis. 2) Running for President. He added: 'Coffee and crossword for now.' Alongside the comments, Ryan shared a screenshot of a message from a follower which read: 'Come on… run for President!!!! You know middle-aged women vote in Ireland and you know you want to!' Ryan opened up about how tough the Presidential election is in Ireland, saying he is "baffled by the unhinged nature of presidential election coverage". "As someone who has interviewed the last three presidents (and their rivals in the various elections) I am repeatedly taken aback at the level of acrimony, cruelty and let's face it, prurience that goes with the task of running for the Áras," the former RTÉ star wrote in the Mail on Sunday. "The bizarre thing about it is that as soon as the president is elected, the mob stops as if switched off with a button. The President is generally respected and afforded a dignity that tends to go with the ceremonial nature of the august position. "I continue to be baffled by the unhinged nature of presidential election coverage. I understand that there must be scrutiny and that the campaign is one long job interview but is there a need for all that frothing at the mouth? "In the past few days, Mairead McGuinness withdrew her candidacy for health reasons (and I wish her a speedy recovery). For the other candidates (real or imagined) it was gloves off before they barely opened their mouths. The Irish Times went for Tony Holohan as soon as he suggested that his private polling had him at a healthy 15 per cent." The race to the Áras is set to take place in the coming weeks ahead of Michael D Higgins' retirement from the role. President Michael D Higgins will be replaced later this year Among the names hoping for a nomination include Lord of the Dance Michael Flatley, Catherine Connolly, Bertie Ahern, Gareth Sheridan and Mary Lou McDonald. Last week, Mairead McGuinness was forced to pull out of the Presidential Race on medical advice with Catherine Connolly now favourite to win the vote. A presidential election is expected towards the end of October, as it must take place in the 60 days before the term of current president Michael D Higgins ends on November 11. To be eligible to run, a candidate must be an Irish citizen who is 35 or older. They must be nominated either by at least 20 members of the Oireachtas or at least four local authorities. 'I have made the very difficult decision to withdraw my name as the Fine Gael nominee for the Presidential election,' a statement from Ms McGuinness said. 'This decision is not lightly taken and follows a stay in hospital last week.

Conor McGregor plays football at Napoli's stadium before being swarmed by fans

Conor McGregor enjoyed a kickabout at Napoli's iconic on Saturday in his bare feet. The MMA fighter is currently holidaying in Naples with his family. Footage shared on social media shows a topless McGregor kicking a ball on the pitch at the home of the Serie A champions. He was later swarmed by a large group of people as he made his way to his luxury yacht in the Italian city. The former two-weight UFC champion is seemingly preparing for his Octagon return and trained at a gym in Naples during the week wearing a Napoli jersey. He is hoping to fight at the UFC's White House on July 4 next year. UFC President Dana White revealed he plans to meet US President Donald Trump and his daughter Ivanka at the end of August to finalise the arrangements for the event. Next summer's show will be the first time a UFC fight card will be held at the White House. "It is definitely going to happen," White, a big supporter of the US president, told CBS television. "I talked to him last night -- 'him' being the president -- and I'm flying out there at the end of this month, and I'm going to sit down and walk him through all the plans and the renderings, and we're going to start deciding what he wants and doesn't want." The UFC boss added: "When he called me and asked me to do it, he said: 'I want Ivanka in the middle of this.' So Ivanka reached out to me, and her and I started talking about the possibilities, where it would be and, you know, I put together all the renderings." White isn't ruling out the possibility of McGregor returning, but he wants to see real commitment from the Dubliner. "I mean, if you see, he's been posting videos of himself training, he's back in the pool now, he wants the White House fight," White told Pardon My Take. "Listen, if he starts getting in shape and starts training and stays the course, that's the fight he wants, he keeps telling me he wants that fight so we'll see how it plays out over the next few months."
