Steve Miller Band set to play Minnesota State Fair Grandstand this summer
On Tuesday, the Minnesota State Fair announced that the band and special guest The Rascals will be playing at the
Grandstand
on Thursday, Aug. 28.
Formed in the late 60s and coming into popularity in the 70s, Steve Miller Band is known for hits like "Fly Like an Eagle," "The Joker," "Jet Airliner," and "Jungle Love." More recently, the band has explored blues and jazz.
Miller was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2016 an d the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2022.
The Rascals, with reunited founders Felix Cavaliere and Gene Corneish, are known for hits like "Good Lovin'" and "Groovin."
Tickets go on sale on Friday at 10 a.m. There's options for reserved seating and the "Party Deck."

Last month, organizers announced ticket prices for this year's fair
will increase by $2
— pre-fair discount tickets are $17 through Aug. 26 and admission at the gate will cost $20. On-site parking will also increase to $25.

‘No Rain, No Flowers' Review: The Black Keys Attempt a Reset
The Black Keys had a rough year in 2024, which was notable because the two-piece rock outfit—singer-guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney—has historically been light on drama. A series of undersold arena gigs led to a canceled tour and the firing of their management. After the announcement of the band's participation in a pre-election show sponsored by a pro-cryptocurrency organization, the Black Keys seemed lost and in danger of losing what had taken decades to build. Yes, at one point there was a minor feud with Jack White of fellow Midwestern blues-inspired garage-rock duo the White Stripes, and Mr. Carney has posted playfully confrontational rhetoric online from time to time. But personality has taken a backseat to music through most of the group's career, so it was odd for its members to be at the center of controversy. From its title on down, 'No Rain, No Flowers' (Easy Eye Sound/Warner), the band's 13th album, out now, feels like an attempt to get back on track. It comes across as the Black Keys retreating to a place of comfort, as it imbues its rock with a bit more pop while adding a fashionable smidgen of psychedelia.

This Instagram account roasts bad versions of Texas
Comedian Kevin Miller has seen the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to representations of Texas. Mostly the ugly. The big picture: Miller is the voice behind the viral Instagram account @uglytexases, which spotlights hilariously bad versions of the Lone Star State. Zoom in: Miller, 47, launched the account in 2018, and it's taken off in recent years. He's an instructional designer and longtime improv comedian who spent more than 20 years in Austin before moving to Amsterdam for love. How it works: Even abroad, he keeps the account active — sourcing images from what he calls "vigilant citizens" and adding his signature dry commentary. He checks the account every morning for submissions, usually getting between one and five. His favorites? The images that are everywhere but often go unnoticed, like the David McDavid dealership stickers that have been slapped on thousands of cars across Texas. That sticker now serves as the account's thumbnail image. What they're saying: "I don't actually have a mission here," Miller tells Axios. "I'm just glad it makes people a little more aware of what Texas actually looks like."
