HDC secures RM345.2mil potential sales at JFEX Summer Show 2025 in Tokyo
In a statement today, HDC head of international cooperation Mohamad Romzi Sulaiman said that the participation further reinforces Malaysia's commitment to expanding its halal footprint in Japan and the region.
"HDC's presence at JFEX 2025 provided a strategic platform for 50 Malaysian halal-certified exporters and export-ready companies to present their products and services to the Japanese market and neighbouring countries.
"This showcase was to promote the Halal Malaysia brand and open valuable trade as well as investment opportunities for Malaysian businesses,' he said.
HDC said that over the course of three days, it facilitated more than 100 business-to-business meetings between Malaysian exhibitors and high-quality Japanese and international buyers, and these engagements demonstrated strong demand for Malaysia's halal offerings. - Bernama

King's state visit to Russia underscores deepening bilateral ties
MOSCOW: The state visit by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, to Russia from Aug 5-10 has been described as the highlight of the diplomatic ties between the two countries, said Malaysia's ambassador to Russia, Datuk Cheong Loon Lai. He said the visit is the highest-level ever made and the first by a Malaysian Head of State to Russia since diplomatic relations were established in April 1967. "His Majesty's state visit, at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir V. Putin, is a recognition of the five decades of diplomatic ties with Malaysia, which was among the earliest Asean countries to establish ties with the then Soviet Union. "This visit also reflects the crucial role of the institution of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in the context of international relations," he told Bernama here today in conjunction with Sultan Ibrahim's state visit. Cheong said the visit will begin in Moscow, where His Majesty is scheduled to hold an official meeting with Putin at the Grand Kremlin Palace. Both leaders are expected to discuss potential cooperation in the fields of trade and investment, higher education, technology and innovation, people-to-people ties, digital transformation, agriculture and food security, as well as regional and international issues. "This highest-level visit will certainly have a high impact in increasing the momentum and positive trend of bilateral relations between Malaysia and Russia. "It sends the message that Malaysia is serious and committed to efforts to strengthen and improve bilateral relations with Russia in all fields, particularly strategic cooperation and people-to-people ties," he said. Cheong said Malaysia has always valued its relationship with Russia, which is built on a pragmatic approach, openness and mutual respect. He said the Russian government welcomes His Majesty's state visit and has extended its full cooperation and support to ensure its success. Sultan Ibrahim is scheduled to arrive in Moscow on Tuesday and will be accorded a state welcome ceremony at the Kremlin on Wednesday, before holding an official meeting with Putin and attending a state banquet hosted by the Russian President. His Majesty is also scheduled to visit the Russian Automotive Technology Development Company (NAMI), as well as the Tochka Kipeniya Technology and Innovation Hub. On Friday, Sultan Ibrahim will travel to Kazan, the fifth largest city in Russia, for an audience with the Rais (Head) of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, at the Kazan Kremlin. Both parties are expected to discuss potential collaboration in the trade, investment, halal industry sectors and agricultural technology. His Majesty is also scheduled to attend a reception ceremony hosted by Minnikhanov and visit the Kazan Helicopter Plant to observe the manufacturing operations of civilian, defence and rescue helicopters. Russia is currently Malaysia's ninth-largest trading partner among European countries and 28th globally, with bilateral trade valued at RM11.46 billion (USD2.48 billion) in 2024. For the period January to June 2025, Malaysia-Russia trade volume was recorded at RM4.13 billion (USD945.7 million).

Sarawak aligns tourism development with RMK13 investment zones
KUCHING: The Sarawak government has expressed readiness to align its tourism development strategies with the newly announced tourism investment zones under the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13). Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Sarawak's Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, stated that while the state already possesses strong tourism offerings, further collaboration with federal initiatives will enhance mutual benefits. 'If the tourism investment zones include areas like Mulu, Niah, the Kuching Delta, and the Rainforest World Music Festival, then we are already aligned. We just need deeper discussions,' he said. He emphasised the importance of avoiding overlaps and instead strengthening ongoing and future efforts. Sarawak's tourism sector has shown promising growth this year, with visitor numbers nearing five million and revenue surpassing RM1 billion. Abdul Karim, who also oversees youth and entrepreneurial development, stressed that socioeconomic programs for bumiputera must align with Sarawak's existing ecosystem to ensure effective implementation. He welcomed RMK13's focus on expanding business opportunities through funding, training, and mentorship, noting that the state government has similar initiatives under the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030. Speaking at the Youth EdXchange Programme 2025, he highlighted the importance of youth empowerment. 'Your experiences—from community immersion to sustainability workshops—prove that when given a platform, young people lead with purpose,' he said. Govt bent on safeguarding Sabah's rights – Anwar

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2025 National Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen's Day here on Sunday, Anwar said the Federal Government will also continue to safeguard the nation's sovereignty against any form of intrusion, whether on land or at sea. He further emphasised that Malaysia is prepared to bring matters concerning Sabah's rights and the country's sovereignty to international court proceedings if necessary. 'Why are we doing this? Because this is our country — Sabah is part of Malaysia. We are spending tens of millions of Ringgit, maybe a hundred million Ringgit, to defend our rights. We will not allow even an inch of our land or sea to be encroached upon. 'Wherever it may be — in the Spanish courts or internationally — we will fight to the maximum to defend Sabah's rights because Sabah is part of Malaysia,' he said. Also present were Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, and his deputy Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup. Anwar said the MADANI Government is committed to driving Sabah's development and resolving demands under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) through various initiatives and allocations, stressing that the relationship between the state and Federal Governments must remain strong. Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said among the resolved matters is the interim special grant for Sabah, which has been increased from RM300 million to RM600 million this year, along with an allocation of RM10 billion to complete the Pan Borneo Highway in Sabah. 'It (Pan Borneo Highway in Sabah) was delayed under the previous government, but we are continuing it under the responsibility of the Federal Government. Maybe it's not visible yet, not completed, but at least we've approved it and the work packages are in progress,' he said. On utilities, Anwar said the Federal Government has given full authority over electricity supply management to the state government, along with continuous subsidies for seven years until 2030 amounting to RM3.54 billion. To address the ongoing water supply issues, the Federal Government has approved an allocation of RM300 million, in addition to handing over projects worth under RM50 million to the state administration.
