Litton Das eyes Pakistan heist after historic Sri Lanka T20I win: Won't be easy

India Today4 days ago
Litton Das has acknowledged that defeating Pakistan in the upcoming T20I series will be a tough challenge. The 30-year-old recently led Bangladesh to their first-ever T20I series win over Sri Lanka, sealing the victory with an eight-wicket triumph in the final match at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Before the Sri Lanka T20I, Bangladesh had another successful away series against the West Indies, highlighting Bangladesh's growing strength in the format.advertisementHowever, Litton cautioned that the conditions in Dhaka - particularly the rainy weather - could make batting difficult during the Pakistan series.
"Both series wins are huge for me. Beating West Indies in their backyard is massive. They are a strong team in their conditions. It is the same in Sri Lanka. They are a balanced team too."I don't know how the Mirpur wicket is going to behave during the Pakistan series. I think it is raining in Dhaka every day, so the wicket can be difficult for batting in such conditions," Litton told the reporters after the 3rd T20I.'Pakistan have variety in their bowling attack'Litton Das emphasized that Bangladesh will need to work hard to overcome Pakistan, citing their strong bowling attack and familiarity with local conditions. He pointed out that many Pakistani players have participated in several editions of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), giving them valuable experience in Bangladesh. To secure a series win, Litton said, Bangladesh must focus on playing smart, disciplined cricket."It won't be easy taking on Pakistan in Mirpur. They have variety in their bowling attack. They also play a lot of BPL, so they know our conditions quite well. I know that we can win matches against them if we play smart cricket," Litton added. The first T20I is scheduled for July 20, with all three matches set to be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.- EndsMust Watch

PAK Coach Mike Hesson Fumes Over Mirpur Pitch: 'Not Of International Standard'

Pakistan's new coach Mike Hesson criticized the Mirpur pitch after a seven-wicket loss to Bangladesh, calling it below international standards. The slow and low track of Mirpur felt Pakistan's new white-ball coach Mike Hesson's fury on Sunday. The New Zealander said after his side's huge, seven-wicket defeat that the pitch wasn't of 'international standard' and that though it might help 'Bangladesh find success', it wasn't 'right' to present such wickets to visiting teams. Pakistan were bowled out for just 110, their lowest ever total in T20Is. Fakhar Zaman top-scored with 44, but no other visiting batter could even cross half of that as pacers Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman ran riot with five wickets. In reply, Parvez Hossain Emo's half-century and Towhid Hridoy's patient 36 saw Bangladesh chase it in just 15.3 overs, one of their best wins statistically over the Asian rivals. 'This type of wicket is not of international standard," an angry Hesson said in the post-match press conference. Playing on such pitches won't help you improve. You have the Asia Cup ahead, and playing on surfaces like this won't help you succeed on the big stage. Bangladesh may find success on these kinds of pitches, but this is by no means an ideal wicket," he remarked. Hesson almost veered into explaining how 'such wickets' were not helpful for Bangladesh cricket's development either, before reeling himself back. 'In the BPL, good wickets are usually prepared here. But in international matches, Bangladesh keeps producing these slow and low surfaces to gain a home advantage. That's not right," he stated, before adding, 'I haven't come here to fix Bangladesh cricket—that's not my job. But when we talk about the global standard of the game, such wickets are not the way forward." It's not just the visiting teams, though. In 2021, after Bangladesh hosted New Zealand and Australia on such tracks and found success, some batters had complained about the pitch. Home skipper Litton Das had also brought up the subject on the eve of this T20I, saying: 'I also agree. (After playing the 2021 New Zealand-Australia series) the careers of many cricketers have gone down as batters. If I were a bowler, maybe my career would have been rich." Bangladesh now lead the series 1-0, with the second match on Tuesday, July 22, at the same venue. view comments First Published: July 20, 2025, 23:05 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Pakistan Cricket Hit New Low! For First Time Ever In T20Is Men In Green..

The first T20I of the three-match bilateral series against Bangladesh on Sunday (July 20) in Dhaka brought a fresh embarrassment for Pakistan's men's cricket team. In the series opener played at Shere Bangla National Stadium, the Pakistani team failed to bat the full 20 overs and got out for just 110 runs. The total of 110 runs posted by the Salman Ali Agha-led side on Sunday is the lowest by Pakistan in T20Is against Bangladesh, and also for the first time ever, the Men in Green got bowled out against the Bangladeshi team. Bangladesh captain Litton Das won the toss in the first T20I and invited Pakistan to bat first, after which they could only manage to score 110 runs in 19.3 overs. Opening batter Fakhar Zaman hammered 44 runs from 34 balls with the help of six fours and one six. Khushdil Shah added 17 runs to Pakistan's total from 23 balls after coming out to bat at No. 7, and Abbas Afridi made a contribution of 22 runs from 24 balls with the help of three sixes.

Parvez was in fine form, hitting five sixes and three boundaries during his 39-ball knock, finishing unbeaten on 56. The win marked only Bangladesh's fourth victory over Pakistan in 23 T20Is. Reflecting on the loss, skipper Salman Agha said: 'It wasn't enough on the board as we lost wickets at regular intervals, which we have to talk about before the second game.' Litton Das acknowledged the challenge of batting on a slow pitch: 'It's not an easy wicket to bat on, but the way we batted, it looked good. We took early wickets and that's the key point.'
