Hibs squander two-goal lead and share points with Kilmarnock

Hibs threw away a two-goal lead and ended up sharing the points with Kilmarnock after a dramatic 90-minutes at Easter Road this afternoon.
David Gray made three changes to the starting XI that beat Partizan Belgrade 2-0 on Thursday night in Serbia in the first leg of their Europa Conference League qualifier.
Scotland international Grant Hanley made his debut alongside Junior Hoilett and Elie Youan who replaced Jack Iredale, Chris Cadden and Martin Boyle.
Hibs started on the front foot and after creating a number of early chances opened the scoring from a free-kick near the byeline.
Jamie McGrath fizzed a cross to the back post and Rocky Bushiri was on hand to head the ball into the net.
The hosts then doubled their advantage when Junior Hoilett's wonderful through ball found Youan who slotted the ball past the keeper.
Hibs looked comfortable but just before half-time, Killie striker Marcus Dackers turned two defenders to get to the byeline, before finding Liam Polworth who scored from close range.
That goal buoyed the visitors and the equaliser arrived shortly after the restart.
A corner was headed away but only as far as Ben Brannan, who volleyed a contender for goal of the season brilliantly over Jordan Smith and into the corner from 25 yards.
The visitors had the better of the second half with Smith looking nervy, but Brannan's effort was the final goal of the game
Hibs host Partizan Belgrade on Thursday night at Easter Road, in the second leg of their Conference League third round qualifier.
After the final whistle Gray told BBC Scotland: 'It was certainly, in terms of our level, a game of two halves.
'First half, very good. Started very well, a lot of good play within that. But we lost a goal just before half time through a lack of concentration.
'Second half, we were nowhere near the level we were. The second goal is a wonderstrike, but we needed to be better in how we reacted.
'It's a bit of everything – big moments in games, the momentum shifts, your opponent gets confidence from that. We gave them confidence with individual errors, created anxiety in situations. A lot of the chances we gave up were self-inflicted.'
Kilmarnock manager Stuart Kettlewell told BBC Scotland: '[Brannan's strike] will be spoken about for quite some time. It's some strike, it's unbelievable. We had some other real good moments and spooked Hibs at the back.
'The goal aside, Ben is 18. We gave him his debut, we knew he was talented. I'll not get carried away, he's playing out of position, and he's embraced the whole situation. He's taken everything in his stride and you need that emotional intelligence to give yourself a chance.'
Hibs: Smith, Hanley, O'Hora, Levitt, Youan, Bowie, McGrath, Mulligan. Obita, Hoilett, Bushiri

Jamie McGrath ‘touch and go' for tonight's UEFA Conference League qualifier

It has been a busy few weeks for Hibs with a packed schedule on both the European and domestic fronts. Gray told Hibs TV:'Kieron (Bowie) limped off on Sunday, but he has recovered and has trained fully. That was just an impact injury, and there was no reaction on that, so that is all very positive and he is available. 'In terms of players coming back; Nicky Cadden is back training and will be available for selection. There is also positive news with Rudi Molotnikov, he has been back on the grass in the last couple of sessions – he has been out for a significant period of time so we won't rush him back, but he could be involved within the matchday squad.' Gray and his coaching staff are also closely monitoring Jamie McGrath ahead of Thursday night. 'The one that is a bit touch and go is Jamie McGrath', the Hibs Head Coach continued. 'He went into a tackle in the second half and played on through it, but he has since stiffened up a wee bit. 'We kept him out of the contact stuff this morning, but he was still out on the pitch running. We will just see how that settles between now and kick-off. We will give him every chance but we certainly won't be taking any risks – we just need to monitor it.' Like this: Like Related

Predicted Hibs XI vs Partizan Belgrade as three changes made

Hibs are looking for continental progress on Thursday night when they take on Partizan Belgrade in the second leg of their UEFA Conference League third round qualifier. David Gray's side hold a 2-0 lead over the Serbian side after a famous victory away from last week. They now look to finish the job in front of a packed Easter Road for a chance to contest a play-off battle against either AEK Larnaca or Legia Warsaw, in which the winner will enter the league phase of this competition. Gray said: 'I think that's the message for me, the mindset. We spoke about it at length this morning, about how this is half time in the tie. Nothing's been achieved yet other than we're in a brilliant position, but it's 0-0 in this game. 'It's 0-0 starting the game but you go into every single game trying to win the game. It will be no different tomorrow night, going in with that mindset because I think if you try and hold on and you try and protect and protect and protect then you leave yourself exposed. So we will definitely be approaching the game as if it's 0-0, with all to play for, because we know the threat and danger that Partizan possess.' With three changes from the team that drew 2-2 with Kilmarnock in the Premiership last time out, here's who we think starts for Hibs. 1 . GK: Jordan Smith Number one keeps his place. | SNS Group Photo Sales 2 . RCB: Warren O'Hora Irishman stays on right of the back three. | SNS Group Photo Sales 3 . CB: Rocky Bushiri Another huge night needed from the powerful defender. | SNS Group Photo Sales 4 . LCB: Jack Iredale First change, in place of Grant Hanley. | SNS Group Photo Sales

Nectar Triantis has interest in America, it's been stated, as uncertainty continues to surround the Sunderland player after time at Hibs. The defender turned midfielder was a shining light in David Gray's side last season as they finished third in the Premiership. He has returned to Sunderland after their promotion to the Premier League but what part he plays in their top tier campaign is not yet known, having played during pre season for the Black Cats. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Hibs have not hidden from holding interest in the enforcer who shone for head coach David Gray, but they are not the only suitors. Now it has been claimed that Minnesota United in the MLS are looking at a deal. Nectar Triantis future latest It's also suggested by transfer journalist, Pete O'Rourke, that there are a clutch of English Championship sides on the hunt for the enforcer. He said on X: 'Minnesota United are eyeing a move for Sunderland midfielder Nectarios Triantis before the close of the transfer window. Several Championship clubs are also interested in Triantis.' Derby County were one team recently named as a suitor for Triantis but boss John Eustace took exception to those rumours. He said earlier this month: 'That's not a name I have been speaking about with the club. I think his agent might be putting it out there, possibly. I know the boy. He's a good young lad. He's 21/22 and had a good loan with Hibs last year. He is a good player, but he is not somebody at the moment we are looking at.' Gray said recently of Hibs interest in signing Triantis: 'He was a pleasure to work with, that was one of the reasons why we wanted to bring him back in the first place. He's a real humble, hardworking boy who is constantly trying to improve all the time As a coach that's what you want as a dream to work with, and he's said a few times now how grateful he is for the opportunity he had. Because you're only as good as your teammates round about you. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Nectar Triantis changes national allegiances 'He had such a good season last year but the strength of the group and the coaches around that as well - a lot of coaches have done a lot of hard work with him to get him progressing all the time. He's got a lot of progressing still to be done and he's someone that I've worked closely with. And I'll be definitely keeping an eye on him to see how he gets on and wish him all the very best - if it's not here.' Meanwhile, Triantis has made another big decision, to represent Greece over Australia. He was called up to the Socceroos squad earlier this year alongside Hibs stars like Martin Boyle but did not feature in their summer camp, and having not played a competitive game for them either, it kept other avenues open. Both his parents are from Greece and his Greek citizenship has now come through, clearing the way for him to represent the nation. Triantis has previously represented Australia at U20s and U23s level, and also played for the Australian Olympic team.
