Andorra vs England: When David Nugent nicked Defoe's goal

England have won all six previous meetings, scoring 25 times in the process and conceding none. It's a clash that has does not evoke much nostalgia, but it's one that David Nugent will remember fondly.
Back in 2007, England were labouring against the minnows. Booed off after a goalless half-time in Barcelona, it required Steven Gerrard's latest Roy of the Rovers impression to get England ahead. Gerrard scored twice to put the visitors in control, before Nugent marked his international debut with the third.
Usually, there would be universal appreciation for a debutant scorer, but it's fair to say strike partner Jermain Defoe was a little miffed. Defoe's effort on goal was crossing the line, only for Nugent to stab it in from millimeters out. Defoe gave a wry smile, but on the inside was clearly unhappy.
'Jermain Defoe had a shot, the keeper saved it, but it went under his body and was rolling into the goal,' Nugent later told the Express. 'I used my pace to get there just in time before it crossed the line and tapped it in.

'It was going in anyway, but I decided I'd make sure. The pitch was a bit muddy, so it might have stopped in the mud.'
Defoe's recollection was slightly different.
'Fuming,' he recalled to Rio Ferdinand presents.
'It was his first England goal so people were making noise about it. But I though, 'I've made the movement to get in, I've shot, snapshot, it's gone underneath the goalkeeper and I'm running away celebrating. He's just come from nowhere and kicked it in the goal!''
Nugent was never capped again, ending his England career with one appearance and one shamelessly stolen goal.

Mbappé converts penalty kick as Real Madrid beats Osasuna 1-0 in Spanish league opener
MADRID (AP) — Kylian Mbappé got off to a scoring start in his second season with Real Madrid, leading the team to a 1-0 victory over Osasuna in their Spanish league opener Tuesday. Mbappé, the leading scorer in his debut with Madrid last season, converted a 51st-minute penalty kick to give the hosts the victory. A nice run by Mbappé through the right side of the area, followed by a neat cutback move, prompted the foul. The goal gave new coach Xabi Alonso a winning debut in his first full season with the club. The former Madrid player arrived before the Club World Cup to replace Carlo Ancelotti, who left to take the Brazil job. Alonso started the match with three of the club's new signings for the season — left back Álvaro Carreras, right back Trent Alexander-Arnold and central defender Dean Huijsen. Paris FC sign Kevin Trapp from Eintracht Frankfurt
Promoted Ligue 1 side Paris FC have signed Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp (35), both clubs have announced. The former Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper has signed a three-year deal with Paris FC. The Germany international arrived in the French capital on Tuesday to undergo his medical. Trapp is back in Paris after featuring 91 times for PSG during four years, between 2015 and 2019. Paris FC have been looking for an experienced goalkeeper this summer to strengthen their squad following their Ligue 1 promotion. Trapp is expected to provide leadership and competition for Obed Nkambadio, who started between the posts during the club's opening-day 1-0 defeat against Angers SCO.
