Rani Mukerji visits Siddhivinayak Temple after winning her first National Award in 30 years for Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway.
Rani Mukerji National Award: Rani marked a big personal and professional milestone over the weekend — and she did it with gratitude. Just days after winning her first-ever National Film Award for Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway, nearly three decades into her acting career, the actor was seen at Mumbai's famous Siddhivinayak Temple, offering prayers and seeking blessings.
Photos from her visit were shared by the temple's official Instagram page, showing Rani standing near the altar with folded hands and a gentle smile. She wore a blue suit with a red shawl draped over her shoulders and had a tilak on her forehead.
Rani was honoured with the Best Actress award for her powerful role in Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway, where she plays a mother in a legal battle to bring her children back. The film is based on the real-life story of Sagarika Chakraborty, an Indian woman who fought the Norwegian government for custody of her kids.
In her statement after the win, Rani said, 'I'm overwhelmed to have won the National Award for my performance in Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway. Incidentally, this is the first-ever National Award in my 30-year career. As an actor, I have been fortunate to have some incredible films in my body of work and have received so much love for them."
For Rani, this honour goes beyond just a trophy. She shared that the award holds a deeper emotional meaning because of the story it represents. 'I dedicate my National Award to all the incredible mothers of this world. There is nothing like a mother's love and her ferocity to protect her own. The story of this Indian immigrant mother, who went all out for her child and took on a nation, shook me deeply… a mother's love for her child is unconditional," she said.
Rani celebrated her win with good friend, Shah Rukh Khan, who shared the Best Actor Award for Jawan with 12th Fail star Vikrant Massey. SRK's wife, Gauri Khan, posted a celebratory carousel that featured candid moments with Shah Rukh, Rani Mukerji and Karan Johar. In one picture, SRK is seen kissing Rani on her cheek. Gauri captioned the post, 'Three of my absolute favourites just WON big… and so did our hearts ❤️ When talent meets goodness, magic happens — so proud, and so ready to brag about them forever! 💕"

‘Prithviraj, Aadujeevitham snubbed at National Film Awards due to Empuraan controversy,' claims Urvashi: ‘Awards cannot get political'

It appears that the controversy surrounding the 71st National Film Awards is far from over, as more voices continue to emerge expressing dissatisfaction over the evaluation and adjudication of the jury. Interestingly, even those who were named winners in specific categories have stepped forward condemning certain decisions of the committee. Among the top critics is legendary actor Urvashi, who has been protesting the jury's decision to relegate performers like herself and Vijayaraghavan to the Supporting Actor category — despite playing the lead roles in the movies they were considered for — and the complete snubbing of Aadujeevitham – The Goat Life. Coming down heavily on the award committee for totally disregarding director Blessy's Prithviraj Sukumaran-starrer, Urvashi claimed that it was more than apparent that the film was overlooked due to the L2: Empuraan controversy. In conversation with The News Minute, she said, 'How could they ignore Aadujeevitham? You have an actor (Prithviraj) who has given time and effort and gone through a physical transformation to showcase the life of Najeeb, and his gut-wrenching suffering. We all know it is because of Empuraan. Awards cannot get political.' It may be recalled that Prithviraj's big-budget Mohanlal-starrer Empuraan had courted controversy after right-wing groups expressed protest over the scenes in the movie set against the backdrop of the 2002 Gujarat pogrom. Subsequently, the makers made 'voluntary modifications' to the already CBFC-certified film. A sequel to actor Prithviraj's directorial debut Lucifer (2019), Empuraan serves as the second instalment in a planned trilogy, penned by Murali Gopy. Urvashi also vehemently criticised the jury for considering lead characters for awards in the supporting roles category. She maintained, 'If they select lead characters for the award for supporting roles, then what happens to the actual supporting actors? Where is the motivation for them to try to better their craft? How did they measure acting to decide whether it is a lead role or a supporting role?' Stating that she had faced a similar misfortune two decades ago, Urvashi revealed that she chose not to react back then over respect for the actor who won the National Film Award for Best Actress at the time. In 2005, Urvashi was awarded the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Achuvinte Amma (2005), although she played one of the two female leads in the movie. Achuvinte Amma marked her comeback after a six-year hiatus. Actor Sarika, who too was making her return to cinema during that time, bagged the Best Actress award then for her performance in Parzania. Urvashi said, 'I did not raise my voice then, because Sarika won Best Actress for Parzania, and I knew she was making a comeback after a personal struggle, and it did not feel right to protest. But this time, I have to speak, not just for myself, but for my younger co-stars. There are so many talented actors in the south who will keep missing out on these recognitions if we don't raise our voice now. The National Awards must be given purely for talent, nothing else. I don't crave awards, but when they come, they should leave you feeling good, not like this. The jury should not take the south lightly, and think we will be happy receiving what they give us.' The legendary actor further emphasised that she was raising the matter not for herself, but for the many young women who shouldn't have to face the same fate. 'I can speak, because I am not dependent on any political party. I pay my taxes, I have no fear. I am raising this, not for me, but for those who walk behind me. I do not want anyone telling them, 'Even Urvashi kept quiet when she won, why are you making noise?'' Urvashi stated that she will decide whether or not to accept the award based on the response she receives. Although her performance in Ullozhukku had earned Urvashi her sixth Kerala State Film Award for Best Actress, it was in the best supporting actor category that she was considered at the 71st National Film Awards. At the same edition of the Kerala State Film Awards, Aadujeevitham had won nine honours, including Best Director for Blessy and Best Actor for Prithviraj Sukumaran.

20-Year-Old Creates Country Of 400 Citizens On No Man's Land, Declares Himself President!

Daniel Jackson, originally from Britain, has founded a country between Serbia and Croatia. The Free Republic of Verdis has its own flag, cabinet, currency, and 400 citizens Have you ever imagined creating your own country? It might sound bizarre, but a 20-year-old has turned this wild idea into reality. Daniel Jackson, originally from Britain, has declared himself the president of a self-proclaimed country on a disputed piece of land between Croatia and Serbia. This tiny nation, called the Free Republic of Verdis, has its own flag, a cabinet, its own currency, and even around 400 registered citizens! Jackson discovered the unclaimed patch of land, locally known as 'Pocket Three', during a border dispute between the neighbouring nations. This forested area of under 125 acres lies on the banks of the Danube River. SWNS, Jackson, who also has Australian roots, officially declared Verdis an independent republic on May 30, 2019. A digital designer by profession, Jackson makes a living building virtual worlds on the gaming platform Roblox. At 18, he began formalising Verdis, with laws, a flag, and a cabinet. The official languages are English, Croatian, and Serbian, and the euro is used as currency. The only way to reach Verdis is by boat from the Croatian city of Osijek. Despite the excitement, building a nation has not been without challenges. In October 2023, Croatian police detained Jackson and a few settlers, later deporting them and banning them from entering Croatia for life. 'They didn't give any reason. Just said we were a threat to national security," Jackson shared. Now operating 'in exile', Jackson continues to run Verdis remotely and insists he wants peaceful relations with Croatia. 'I hope to return one day. If successful, I'll step down and organise proper elections. I don't care about power, I just want to be an ordinary citizen. It's been a surreal journey, and I'm proud of what we've created." Who Can Become a Verdisian? Verdis began with just four people but has now grown to 400 official citizens, with thousands more expressing interest. While the micro-nation issues its own passports, Jackson warns against using them for international travel, though a few reportedly have. 'It's a very small nation, so we're cautious about whom we approve," he explained. 'We prioritise skills like medical or policing experience." Though banned from returning for now, Jackson is hopeful. 'Croatia doesn't claim the land, so we believe we still have a chance. It's surrounded by wilderness, but living there feels almost magical." view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
