The South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance (SCMA) announced Wednesday that High Noon Sun Sips, manufactured by E&J Gallo at its Fort Lawn facility, landed the honors.

Coolest things made in NC have the coolest back stories
High Noons are vodka- and tequila-based hard seltzer drinks made with flavors such as peach, tangerine, grapefruit and more.
'We are proud to have an opportunity to celebrate Gallo's High Noon Sun Sips as the Coolest Thing Made in South Carolina,' said Sara Hazzard, president and CEO of the South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance. 'This award recognizes the innovation, vision and creativity of the entire team at Gallo, which has been committed to operational excellence, quality and community engagement. Their hard work is exactly why South Carolina continues to be a manufacturing leader worldwide.'
High Noons beat out finalists Boeing's 787 Dreamliner (North Charleston), Sleep Numbers' ClimateCool Smart Bed (Irmo), and MicroCore SpiderWeb Ribbon Fiber Optic Cable made by AFL (Duncan).
Gov. Henry McMaster, who announced the winner at the event, praised South Carolina's manufacturing industry as a cornerstone of the state's success.
'Manufacturing drives opportunity for families and communities across our state, and we count on our manufacturing industry's workforce to help pave our path to lasting prosperity,' said McMaster. 'We take great pride in what we make in South Carolina and our corporate citizens, like Gallo. We welcome every opportunity to celebrate the products made here that serve people across the country and around the world.'
Gallo opened its Fort Lawn facility in 2022 with a $423 million investment and now employs 350 people. The site produces 1,000 cans of High Noon per minute, offering 20 different flavors of vodka and tequila seltzers made with real fruit juice and sparkling water.
In addition to its production success, Gallo has made community engagement a priority in Chester County and beyond. The facility's team has donated appliances to local centers, supported children's homes with repairs, and volunteered for events like food drives, health walks, and local festivals.
Previous winners include Nucor Steel Berkeley's Steel, Lockheed Martin's F-16 Fighting Falcon, and Honda's Talon 1000R-4.

Great News for Boeing Investors

The narrative around Boeing stock continues to improve. Keeping the 777X on track for first delivery in 2026 is a key aim for Boeing. There are real signs of improvement at Boeing under Kelly Ortberg. 10 stocks we like better than Boeing › Boeing (NYSE: BA) received some positive commentary over a critical issue for its future. At a recent International Air Transport Association (IATA) summit, the president of Emirates airline, Tim Clark, made positive comments on the new widebody 777X, which should reassure investors that Boeing is on the right track under CEO Kelly Ortberg. Here's why. According to a Reuters article, Clark stated that Emirates had been informed it would receive its first 777X in the second half of 2026 or the first quarter of 2027. In addition, he declared himself "cautiously optimistic" over the turnaround at Boeing and noted progress at the aerospace giant. These are just comments. However, they matter, and particularly so when they come from the head of one of the largest international airlines in the world, Emirates. In addition, while Lufthansa is set to receive the first 777X in 2026, Emirates is, by some distance, the largest customer for the 777X at present. The airline has 205 unfilled orders for the 777X, followed by 97 unfilled orders from Qatar Airways, with Singapore Airlines a distant third with 31. The 777X is also pivotal to Boeing's future. The new widebody is larger and has a more extended range than Boeing's 787 Dreamliner and will service the high-demand long-haul international travel market. Generally, Airbus is considered the leader in the narrowbody market, while Boeing holds the lead in the widebody market. That said, Airbus has surpassed Boeing in the widebody market in recent years, partly due to quality control issues with the 787 and ongoing, costly delays on the Boeing 777X. Simply put, Boeing needs to keep the 777X on track, not least because airlines are likely to be more hesitant in placing orders when they see continued delivery delays. Furthermore, the delays are extremely costly, in terms of charges, and tying up capital in inventory that won't be utilized until deliveries take place. The 777X was initially intended to have its first delivery in 2020, and the subsequent delays to that timeline have proved embarrassing and costly for Boeing. In its fourth-quarter 2020 earnings report, Boeing recorded a $6.5 billion pre-tax charge on the program and informed investors that the first 777X delivery would occur in late 2023. Last October, Boeing announced a $2.6 billion charge, followed by a further $900 million charge in January. These charges total at least $10 billion. Furthermore, Boeing has inventory tied up in the program, and it's incurring increased research and development costs, with an increase of $525 million in 2023 and $435 million in 2024. Stemming the flow of these charges and losses would be a significant plus; that's why keeping to the revised 2026 target for first delivery is so important. It also counts because it discourages airlines from canceling orders and encourages them to place new orders. Suppose Boeing can demonstrate that it can deliver the first 777X in 2026 and effectively ramp up production thereafter. In that case, airlines can begin to build capacity assumptions based on having 777Xs in service at a given time. As previously discussed, the three key things investors need to see from Boeing are a satisfactory ramp-up in production on the 737 MAX (to an initial 38 a month), a return to profitability for Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS), and keeping the 777X on track. With Boeing making tangible progress on the 737 MAX (management expects to reach a 38-month rate soon), and BDS returning to profitability in the first quarter, the positive commentary on the 777X suggests Ortberg is achieving Boeing's three biggest aims in 2025. That's something likely to support the stock price as it moves through the year. Andy Nilsson files to challenge incumbent Senator Thom Tillis in 2026 midterms

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The midterm elections are more than a year away, but candidates are already jockeying for a position. Retired Winston-Salem businessman Andy Nilsson has filed to challenge incumbent Senator Thom Tillis. 'We've got someone who, when he's voting, votes against the president, and doesn't really show up here to explain why or defend himself, it's like we've got a senator who's absent,' Nilsson told Queen City News. Nilsson spoke with Chief Political Correspondent Andy Weber in Greensboro Friday as the state GOP gathered for their annual convention. The odds are against the Republican challenger, as Tillis has already raised several million dollars and brought on staff with ties to the Trump presidential campaign. 'I knew getting into this, that was a big mountain to climb. I knew how big it was. I mean, this is a guy who's been in for 12 years, who's running for 18. He's got a lot of money, he's got a lot of PAC support, but that goes to the center of my argument, that he's out of touch,' insisted Nilsson. Nilsson argued not only is he a better choice over Tillis, but that he also is the right person to face a potential democratic nominee and former North Carolina Governor, Roy Cooper. 'I'm not a typical politician. Everybody that Roy Cooper has run against in however many elections that he run has been a typical, recycled, swamp-dwelling politician, I'm not. I was 30 years in business until I retired and started coaching high school football, now I'm working with special needs kids, that's what I do.' Cooper himself has not announced if he will run. Senator Tillis' campaign did not respond to a request for comment on Nilsson's campaign. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
