NBA Finals Game 1: Thunder vs. Pacers start time, schedule, expert prediction, TV, stream, betting odds
The Indiana Pacers start the NBA Finals tonight against the Oklahoma City Thunder at the Paycom Center. Indiana — which last made the Finals in 2000 and is seeking its first NBA championship — was the Eastern Conference No. 4 seed before defeating the Milwaukee Bucks, Cleveland Cavaliers and New York Knicks. Pascal Siakam earned Eastern Conference Finals MVP honors. OKC, led by league MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, had the NBA's best regular-season and beat the Memphis Grizzlies, Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference playoffs. The Thunder are in their first NBA Finals since 2012 and have not win a championship in Oklahoma City. Dustin Dopirak is your best Pacers follow, and get IndyStar's Pacers coverage sent directly to your inbox with our Pacers Update newsletter. Dustin Dopirak, IndyStar: Thunder 117-110 "Rick Carlisle has been in awe of the Thunder's roster construction, noting a lack of holes. They have top-of-the-line perimeter defenders on both the first and second units, switchable defenders on the wings and excellent rim protection. Plus, of course, the MVP in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander driving the train on offense. The Pacers are on a magical run and they have a legitimate chance to win this series, but if it's going to happen, it will probably take a game or two for them to get into the flow of the series and develop adjustments. For them to pull that off in Game 1 would be a lot to ask." Pacers: Jarace Walker (ankle) and Isaiah Jackson (Achilles) are out. Thunder: None. TV: ABC, with Mike Breen (play-by-play), Doris Burke and Richard Jefferson (analysis) and Lisa Salters (sideline reporting) Watch with a Fubo trial 93.5 and 107.5 FM in Indianapolis, with Mark Boyle (play-by-play), Eddie Gill (analysis) and Pat Boylan (sideline reporting). Game 1 streaming is on SiriusXM channels 81 and 86 (Thunder feed). "I remember this wasn't even Gainbridge," Thompson told IndyStar. "They were giving away some free bobble heads but I was too late back then. I made sure I'd be right on time today." Police arrest man found with loaded gun at 30-person Indianapolis school graduation brawl
An 18-year-old is facing felony charges after he was found with a gun during Perry Meridian High School's graduation ceremony on May 31. Police say they arrested the man after he was found carrying a gun after a fight involving 30 people broke out at the end of the graduation ceremony held at Southport High School, according to a probable cause affidavit. Officers at the scene heard reports that someone in the crowd might be armed. Once police arrived near the fight, the crowd dispersed, according to the report. Once officers located the man who fit the description of the person possibly carrying a weapon, they detained him and found a fully loaded Glock handgun in his waistband. The suspect denied involvement in the fight and told police that his gun was initially stored in his vehicle, but he retrieved it 'after hearing threats of violence following a disturbance,' the report says. The suspect also said he did not intend to use the weapon and was attempting to leave the area safely. More Public safety news: 'We have to protect Gabe:' Brownsburg day care abuse investigation leads to more charges Possessing a firearm on school property is against state law and could result in felony charges, something that the suspect said he was unaware of. He also voluntarily said that he had a prior juvenile firearm-related offense from June 2024. Perry Township's director of communications, Elizabeth Choi, told IndyStar that the gun never entered the school building and wasn't present during the graduation ceremony. The fight happened outside of the school building after the graduation ceremony, Choi said. Choi also said that the suspect was not a student at Perry Meridian. More school news: IPS: Some families must pay for pre-K after budget cuts The district also had its AI weapons detection system at the event and used it to screen spectators as they entered for the ceremony. 'Our weapons detection systems functioned as intended,' Choi said. 'Law enforcement acted diligently in identifying and apprehending the suspect. Safety at major school events, such as graduation, is never taken lightly — these events are the result of months of detailed planning and coordination. We find the recent allegations disheartening and continue to urge our leaders and community to promote greater awareness and use of effective conflict resolution skills.' IndyStar uses discretion in naming people accused of crimes, considering the severity of charges and available information, among other factors. Suspects may not be named if ongoing reporting of the associated court proceedings is not immediately planned.
