ESPN Analyst Accuses Bengals Of 'Wasting' Joe Burrow's Career
ESPN Analyst Accuses Bengals Of 'Wasting' Joe Burrow's Career originally appeared on The Spun. An ESPN analyst believes Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals are in danger of replicating a disappointing 2024. Burrow led the NFL in passing yards (4,918) and touchdowns (43) last season, but the Bengals missed the playoffs with the league's No. 25 defense. Fans felt some deja vu watching Cincinnati allow 14 points in the first quarter of Monday's preseason win over the Washington Commanders, who rested Jayden Daniels and other key starters. Former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Clark expressed concern about his old division rival's defense on Tuesday's Get Up. He responded, "Absolutely" when host Mike Greenberg asked if he's worried about the Bengals "wasting" Burrow's peak years. "If you watched that game last night and you think about, especially early on last season, we've watched people run for more miles against the Cincinnati Bengals than (ultra-marathon runner) David Goggins," Clark said. Defense remains a sore spot The Bengals certainly didn't derail Burrow's passing prowess by signing star wide receivers Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins to long-term deals. However, they haven't done much to address a defense that allowed at least 34 points in six of last season's eight losses. Cincinnati remains in a contract standoff with star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson, who led the team with 17.5 sacks last season. Nobody else tallied more than five. According to ESPN's Laura Rutledge, Hendrickson said the two sides are close on the length and salary of an extension. Yet they remain divided on guaranteed money. Clark believes that situation poses a significant problem for the Bengals. "The Cincinnati Bengals are trying to figure out a way to capitalize on having one of the best quarterbacks of this generation," Clark said. "And so what they did in the offseason was re-sign Tee Higgins. Re-sign Ja'Marr Chase. But now you're looking at a defense that hasn't improved. And not only has it not improved, but you also haven't signed your best player, and one of the few impact players you have on that side of the football." Clark claimed that Burrow played on Monday night because he realized the Bengals may have to score 40 points to win some games in spite of an "absolutely putrid" defense. He's not sure that will even be enough. "When you watch this in the preseason, you have to be sick to your stomach," he said. "Because you know there's going to be some games where you sit in the post-game press conference, that you scored 35, 38, maybe 41, and you still catch an L." Ex- Boston Celtics owner Steve Pagliuca group working to salvage CT Sun sale
The group led by former Boston Celtics minority owner Steve Pagliuca is reportedly working with the Connecticut Sun's current owners, the Mohegan tribal nation, to salvage the sale of the team with the WNBA, per a recent article from ESPN reporters Alexa Philippou and Ramona Shelburne. Per ESPN, the Sun's current owners plan to offer several options to the league, which appears to prefer moving the ball club out of New England entirely to Houston, Texas. The Mohegan tribe will reportedly propose one of 1) selling the team to Pagliuca's group with the implied move to Boston, 2) a sale of the team to former Milwaukee Bucks owner Marc Lasry with a move to Hartford, Connecticut, 3) selling a minority stake of the team, or 4) allowing the WNBA to buy the franchise for $325 million and relocate it where it likes. While there may be some degree of disagreement between WNBA fans in the region as to whether it would be better to keep the team in a market where there is great support for the team even in down seasons, or to move it to a bigger metropolitan area in Boston, fans across New England have voiced strong support for keeping the team in the region. At the same time, the tribe reportedly feels pressured by the WNBA to sell the team to a buyer that would anger fans in both Connecticut and Massachusetts. "A source close to the ownership group says the tribe is frustrated and feels the league is presenting a one-path option: relocation of the team to a market of its choosing at a value of its choosing," writes ESPN. The situation has many wondering why the league can't simply grant an expansion team to Houston and let one of the deals to keep the team local. With the Seattle SuperSonics debacle of the NBA yet to be resolved nearly two decades on with rancor still a stain on NBA fandom, a path forward that could make all parties happy seems within reach. If the WNBA can get out of its own way, that is. Listen to "Havlicek Stole the Pod" on: Spotify: iTunes: YouTube:

PGA Tour Finalizes 2026 Decision On President Trump Course
PGA Tour Finalizes 2026 Decision On President Trump Course originally appeared on The Spun. For the first time in 10 years, the PGA Tour will reportedly return to Trump National Doral. The news came on Tuesday when the PGA announced next season's Tour schedule which included a stop at Doral in the first weekend of May — one of several signature events between the Masters in April and the start of the PGA Championship on May 11. Doral will play host to the 2026 Miami Championship which will boast a $20 million purse, however there are still some issues to be worked out by new CEO Brian Rolapp and his team. "We're excited to showcase the game's greatest players competing at golf's most iconic venues," he said in a statement (via The PGA moved away from Trump Doral in favor of Mexico City back in 2016 when Trump was first running for office as part of the Republican party. Doral debuted on the Tour way back in 1962. However, issues finding a title sponsor began to pop up after Trump purchased the resort in 2012 and still appear to be plaguing the venue to this day. The PGA is still reportedly looking for a sponsor for next year's tournament so it'll be interesting to see what company decides to step up. Trump Doral has played host to several rival LIV tournaments over each of the last four years but doesn't currently have a spot on the Saudi-backed league's calendar as of right now. More issues could arise On top of the sponsorship troubles, the Miami Championship's placement on the schedule could also pose an issue for the Tour. With where its sandwiched between so many of the year's big events, some of the PGA's top golfers could elect to pass up on an appearance at Doral with five massive tournaments over a six-week stretch — including the first two majors of the year. Time will tell how the Tour's athletes ultimately handle where they choose to participate but it's still noteworthy that the Trump-owned course is coming back to PGA competition.
