Reading Prison: Audience allowed inside jail for theatre event
Mr Bi said previously his plans did not include building flats on any part of the site and a portrait by celebrated street artist Banksy, that appeared on the prison wall in 2021, would "of course" stay.In January, an augmented-reality exhibition allowed members of the public to view artwork hung on the walls via a smartphone app, without entering the building.During the Rabble event on 28 June, the audience inside the prison will be treated to a "rare deep dive" into the creative process behind Rabble's new play, William the Conqueror, said the theatre company. It will take place inside the Victorian prison's Old Chapel.Associate writer Beth Flintoff, Mr Davies, actors, a composer and movement director will talk the audience through the project, demonstrate some scenes and the creation of the soundtrack, Mr Davies told the BBC.The play is being developed with investment from Arts Council England.Mr Davies said: "What happened to Oscar Wilde was wrong and sad but if we can produce thought-provoking, life-affirming theatre in the space, then perhaps that's a little green carnation of justice. "We hope that our work paves the way for other artistic ventures to take place inside this extraordinary historical site."Oscar Wilde spent two years at the prison after being convicted in 1895 of gross indecency - effectively for being gay.He spent the last three years of his life in exile in France, where he composed his last work, The Ballad of Reading Gaol, describing an execution at the prison.

Black Myth Wukong release date for Xbox and when 2024's leading soulslike comes to the Series X
Black Myth: Wukong is finally making its way to Xbox Series X|S, and it's not too far away. Players can get ready to dive in with Wukong and the Monkey King with all of its Chinese mythology and sharp combat. The much-anticipated 2024 soulslike game, Black Myth: Wukong, is finally making its way to Xbox after Game Science's previous claims that the Xbox Series S wasn't robust enough to handle it. Black Myth: Wukong made quite the impact when it first landed on PlayStation and PC. While there's no shortage of soulslike games for players to delve into as FromSoftware continues to work on its multiplayer-player side quest in Elden Ring Nightreign, something about Wukong's Chinese mythology and responsive controls resonated with players in a way that other games simply couldn't match. This is the same reason why the appearance of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers on Xbox Game Pass was so thrilling. However, the game's journey was shrouded in controversy within the broader gaming community – the company claimed that the Xbox Series S simply wasn't capable of handling the game, which reportedly delayed the game's debut on Microsoft consoles this console generation. Forbes debunked this claim, reporting that an exclusivity deal was actually in place that the company was keeping under wraps, and Xbox took the flak for it – but now, presumably with the deal having expired (conveniently timed), it's finally arriving on Xbox Series X|S after a long wait. Despite initial doubts raised by Game Science about the game's compatibility with the Series S, it seems these concerns are now irrelevant. The team has confirmed in a blog post that all issues have been resolved and the game is set to launch on the console. For fans of soulslikes, the wait won't be long. So, when exactly is Black Myth: Wukong hitting Xbox? Here's what you need to know. Black Myth: Wukong Xbox release date The release date for Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox is scheduled for Tuesday, August 19 at 7pm PDT / 10pm EDT, and Wednesday, August 20 at 3am BST. This information comes directly from Game Science, who revealed that the Xbox port of Black Myth: Wukong will be released on Wednesday, August 20 (Hong Kong time), coinciding with the exact time the full game was launched a year ago. The game has a lot to prove to new players on Microsoft consoles, particularly as every other console has had a significant head start. Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has already made a positive impact on Xbox Game Pass. Interestingly, the game's arrival on the console exactly a year after its initial release fuels speculation about an exclusivity deal – but for many players, this is no longer a concern. It's time to dive in.

'Fantastic' BBC period drama epic about real life rivalry ‘nobody has done before' lands this month
The BBC's upcoming big budget period drama epic King & Conqueror stars James Norton and has been branded a 'must watch' for fans of The Last Kingdom and The Winter King. New teaser pictures have been released of the much anticipated new period drama from the BBC. King & Conqueror is coming to screens this August bank holiday, and tells the story of how William the Conqueror ascended the English throne after the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Set in 11th-century Britain, the show stars James Norton, Eddie Marsan and Juliet Stevenson, exploring how the future King of England Harold Godwinson and William, Duke of Normandy, came to be such bitter rivals. The ambitious production will take viewers back to the period running up to the Battle of Hastings, which saw King Harold II brutally killed by William the Conqueror's invading forces. Norton and Game of Thrones actor Nikolaj Coster-Walda play the famous feuding leaders in the eight-part series, brought by The Frankenstein Chronicles writer Michael Robert Johnson and Everest director Baltasar Kormákur. The BBC synopsis reads: "King & Conqueror is the story of a clash that defined the future of a country – and a continent – for a thousand years, the roots of which stretch back decades and extend out through a pair of interconnected family dynasties, struggling for power across two countries and a raging sea. "Harold of Wessex and William of Normandy were two men destined to meet at the Battle of Hastings in 1066; two allies with no design on the English throne, who found themselves forced by circumstance and personal obsession into a war for possession of its crown." The new pictures show James Norton as Harold, Earl of Wessex, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as William, Duke of Normandy, Emily Beecham as Edith Swan-neck, Clémence Poésy as Matilda, Eddie Marsan as King Edward, Juliet Stevenson as Lady Emma, Clare Holman as Gytha, Luther Ford as Tostig, Bo Bragason as Queen Gunhild and Indy Lewis as Margaret. Fans of the likes of The Last Kingdom and The Winter King are urged to check the show out when it airs, and many have been taking to social media to express their excitement ahead of the historical epic hitting screens. One took to Reddit to say: "I think this looks fantastic. Absolutely stellar cast, and such an interesting time in history that hasn't gotten enough on-screen depiction." Another said: "Looking so forward to this. Took trips to look at the bayeux tapestry and go to the (apparent) site of the Battle of Hastings. About time there's a movie about it." A third excited viewer said: "It has to be good. The Norman Conquest definitely needs more adaptions. I am absolutely anticipating this series." And a fourth said: "This looks epic, gritty and a pure medieval journey. I can't wait to see this, been waiting for a such long time." The series also stars Elander Moore as Morcar, Geoff Bell as Godwin, Jean-Marc Barr as King Henry, Elliott Cowan as Sweyn, Bjarne Henriksen as Earl Siward, Oliver Masucci as Baldwin, Jason Forbes as Thane Thomas, Ingvar Sigurdsson as Fitzosbern, Ines Asserson as Judith, Sveinn Ólafur Gunnarsson as Hardrada and Léo Legrand as Odo. King & Conqueror is produced by The Development Partnership, Rabbit Track Pictures, Shepherd Content, RVK Studios and CBS Studios, in association with the BBC.

American in UK tries fish and chips but is told they've 'made a mistake'
Sarah Renee, an American who moved to the UK, frequently shares her thoughts on British foods and various UK brands. In her most recent review, she chose to sample the classic dish of fish and chips. Fish and chips, an iconic British dish adored by millions, is a staple in school canteens every Friday and countless shops across the nation specialise in this beloved classic. It seems our friends across the pond are also keen to sample this national treasure, including Sarah Renee, an American expat now living in the UK. Known for her TikTok reviews of British food and popular UK brands like Greggs, SpudBros and Toby Carvery, Sarah recently went on a five-hour journey to Bournemouth to taste the seaside town's famed fish and chips, comparing it to the fare back home in Orange County, Southern California. At Harry Ramsden's, she ordered a large cod with a regular portion of chips, gravy, mushy peas and curry sauce. Firstly, she took a bite of the fish, describing the flavour as "incredible" before dipping some into the gravy, mistakenly thinking it was meant for the fish and not just the chips. Finding the combination "unique", she then sampled the curry sauce with the fish, confessing: "I've never heard of curry and fish and chips but I'm gonna try it anyway." Deciding she preferred the fish with curry sauce over gravy, she next tried a chip dunked in gravy, declaring: "That's much better than the one at the Chinese." Wrapping up her review, Sarah enthused: "Okay this tastes nothing like California fish and chips so this is fantastic. "I'm giving Harry Ramsden a ten out of ten. This is phenomenal." Harry Ramsden's, a renowned fast food chain in the UK, is famed for its fish and chips. Its Bournemouth branch, situated on the seafront, boasts seating for up to 420 diners. While the restaurant 's signature dish is fish and chips, it also offers a variety of other options, including wholetail scampi, a selection of beef, chicken, cod or halloumi burgers and a classic caesar salad. Sarah's TikTok video has sparked more than 1,900 comments, with several viewers suggesting she should have avoided Harry Ramsden's. A local from Bournemouth commented: "I'm from Bournemouth, this is the worst fish and chips you can get. It's a chain restaurant, so many better places to go, always go local. Total tourist trap." Another viewer agreed: "Harry Ramsden's is a chain though, it's even better from an independent chippy." A third chimed in: "I hate to tell you this but Harry Ramsden's is the worst fish and chips going, it's a chain. Try Lakeside in Poole, if you're still in the area! It's the best." A fourth remarked: "Harry Ramsden's is not the best way to try British fish and chips as they're a chain." However, one Harry Ramsden's fan defended the chain: "I went to the exact same restaurant twice a couple of weeks ago because it was sooo good."
