Isha Foundation refutes allegations of sexual assault on student

In a release, Isha Foundation said, "The allegations made by the parents of the child are false, malicious, and defamatory. No such incident occurred at the school. In 2019, they made certain allegations, which were duly investigated and addressed. Since a case of bullying was found, the other student was issued a migration certificate. After the incident, the couple's elder child continued at the school for another three years, and the student wrote a positive testimonial after leaving the school, and even volunteered at the school. Notably, three months after the alleged incident, the parents applied for admission to the school for their younger child, who was about seven years old.'
'After their eldest child graduated from Isha Home School (IHS), the child's mother volunteered at IHS from June 2022. Due to complaints from students, parents and teachers regarding her conduct, she was asked to leave, and her association with the school was terminated by March 2024. Disgruntled by her removal, she has been attempting to twist the situation with false allegations of sexual assault. This is a calculated effort to malign the reputation of the school and the ashram, and we have initiated appropriate legal action," the release stated.

Auto driver held for alleged sexual assault of minor girl in Kozhikode
The Kunnamangalam police have arrested an autorickshaw driver from Koduvally who allegedly kidnapped and sexually assaulted a minor girl. The accused, K.P. Abdu Gafoor, was charged under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on Wednesday. According to the police, the incident took place on the evening of July 29 when the girl was waiting for bus at Kunnamangalam. The driver offered her a free lift and changed the route for the assault, they said. In her petition, she claimed that the man fled the spot after abandoning her in an isolated place. In a similar incident, an autorickshaw driver from Thalassery was arrested for alleged attempt to abduct a 28-year-old woman from Vadakara. The 40-year-old suspect was nabbed on July 29 on a complaint by the woman.

Ahmedabad: The choice of presenting written arguments in colourful, spiral-bound pages ended up costing Sanjay Rana dearly. Last week, a special Pocso court sentenced the 35-year-old to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 7 lakh, citing his "fanciful" legal submissions as an indicator of his financial capacity. Rana, a resident of Bapunagar, was convicted of making a five-year-old girl from his neighbourhood perform oral sex. He was found guilty under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act for penetrative sexual assault. Special judge A B Bhatt, while deciding on the fine amount, emphasised that the penalty should help cover the victim's medical expenses and rehabilitation. The court noted the girl came from an underprivileged background and highlighted that there was no evidence about Rana's financial hardship. The judgment reads, "It is not the defence of the accused that he is having poor background or he is having economical scarcity. Moreover, looking to the written argument advanced by the learned advocate for the accused, which is spiral binding, colour print page which runs into 125 pages, it appears that accused is capable of bearing cost of fanciful written arguments and therefore, the whole amount of compensation to the victim, just for the rehabilitation is just and proper to imposed as fine under Section 6 of the Pocso Act ." Two sentenced to 10 years' jail each in separate Pocso cases
Aurangabad: A special Pocso court in Aurangabad district on Wednesday awarded 10 years of rigorous imprisonment each and fines to two convicts in separate cases of sexual assaults on children under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Act concerned. The court of special Pocso judge Laxmikant Mishra convicted Chandan Kumar and Sudhir Kumar on July 28. Chandan was sentenced to one year of imprisonment and fined Rs 1,000 under IPC Section 323, and another one year and Rs 1,000 fine under Section 342. In addition, he received 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and Rs 30,000 fine under IPC Section 376 and Section 4 of the Pocso Act. All sentences will run concurrently. In case of non-payment of fines, he will undergo an additional imprisonment of three months. Special public prosecutor Shiv Lal Mehta said that the FIR in the case was lodged on Sept 9, 2023, and charges were framed on April 4, 2024. The convict has already spent eight months and 23 days in judicial custody. In another case, Sudhir was sentenced to five years' imprisonment and fined Rs 20,000 under IPC Section 363, and 10-years' imprisonment with Rs 30,000 fine under Section 376 and Section 4 of the Pocso Act. According to advocate Satish Kumar Snehi, the FIR in the case was registered on Sept 26, 2021, and charges were framed on Nov 22, 2023.
