Tyra Banks and her mom break down in tears over model's surprise ice cream shop opening: 'This is dedicated to you'
Supermodel Tyra Banks warmed up her mother's emotions with a sweet treat to a surprise look at her flagship Smize & Dream ice cream shop in Sydney, Australia.
The 51-year-old America's Next Top Model creator and fashion icon shared a moving video to Instagram on Tuesday, showing herself surprising mom Carolyn London with a preview of the new location.
After London turned around to see the store's facade, she broke down in tears, prompting Banks to cry as well.
"Oh my God, it's beautiful," London said, doubling over as Banks held her hand and they walked toward the eatery.
London then elaborated on why the moment hit her so deeply.
"You worked so hard and I get to see!" she gushed. "It's like a dream. Years and years ago, when I was working so hard as a single mom, I worked more than one job. I worked two jobs. I worked three jobs. I did whatever I could, and the way we would celebrate each week that I got through is I would take her for ice cream in Hollywood."
London added, "We would sit in the car and talk about what we wanted out of life and where we wanted to go, and how we wanted to live and her dreams, and try to inspire her to be focused and that ice cream was so special for us."
Through tears, Banks told her mother, "It's crazy, mom, because when I look at everything, I can't believe this is real. Yeah, it's my dream, but it's more than what I dreamed," before telling London, "Mama, this is dedicated to you."
The video also shows off a handwritten note inside the Smize & Dream store, which is dedicated to London.
ANTM winner Nyle DiMarco commented a message of support on the video as well, writing, "I love and miss your mother! Congratulations I'll need to fly to Sydney for your [ice cream]."
Banks' mother, who regularly appeared to give pep talks to contestants throughout America's Next Top Model's run, has also worked with her daughter on various professional projects — including a 2018 book, Perfect Is Boring. In the project, Banks and London discuss their shared affinity for food, and how it served to bond them together when Banks was building her fashion career en route to becoming one of the most influential models in history.

Warner Bros. Discovery APAC Chief Touts Max's Regional Success at APOS Amid Corporate Split
Warner Bros. Discovery's Asia-Pacific president James Gibbons is bullish about the streaming service Max's performance across the region, even as the media giant prepares for a major corporate restructuring that will split its streaming and studios business from its traditional television networks. Despite the corporate changes, Gibbons emphasized that strategic goals for the Asia-Pacific region remain unchanged. The executive was speaking at the APOS conference in Indonesia. More from Variety Google's Sanjay Gupta Sees AI as 'Magic Wand' for Asia's Storytellers at APOS 'Squid Game' Season 3 Launch Highlights Netflix Korea's Global K-Content Strategy at APOS 'The Pitt' Season 2 Casts 'The L Word: Generation Q' Alum Sepideh Moafi The executive was particularly enthusiastic about Max's March launch in Australia, where the service positioned itself with the tagline 'all killer, no filler' to differentiate from competitors in the crowded streaming landscape. 'We've seen every expectation that we had in the market has been exceeded on every front,' Gibbons said, noting strong performance across subscribers, revenues and engagement metrics. The Australian rollout marked the first time Warner Bros. Discovery launched an ad-supported tier for Max in the Asia-Pacific region, partnering with Nine Entertainment for ad sales. The service also launched exclusively through pay-TV provider Foxtel, giving it immediate access to Foxtel's subscriber base while also being available directly to consumers. 'We've seen a tremendous authentication rate there,' Gibbons noted of the Foxtel partnership, 'and then in the retail space, we were obviously available across the market to all segments which have never previously been the case in Australia.' In Japan, Warner Bros. Discovery took a different approach, partnering with local streaming service U-Next rather than launching independently. The strategy has paid dividends, with Gibbons reporting that Max content viewing increased by more than 40% following the launch. 'By working with U-Next, who've done an incredible job in the last few months to be building up that platform, we were able to, on day one, access their entire base for Max, and secondly, sit alongside a very strong lineup of local Japanese content,' he explained. While Max has built its reputation on premium international content, Gibbons acknowledged the need to invest more heavily in local productions to expand the addressable market. The company has already seen success with its anime studio in Japan, which produced 'Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League' exclusively for Max. Warner Bros. Discovery also scored a major box office hit in Japan with 'Cells at Work,' which Gibbons described as 'the most successful, biggest box office in the history of all the movies we've ever produced in Japan, based on a manga in Japan.' The executive highlighted the global impact of strategic casting decisions, pointing to Lisa from K-pop group Blackpink's role in 'The White Lotus' Season 3, filmed in Thailand. 'That made Thailand possibly, if not the number one, one of the most successful markets of 'White Lotus' globally,' Gibbons said. In Southeast Asia, Warner Bros. Discovery has primarily worked through partnerships due to legacy relationships with HBO channels and HBO Go. However, Gibbons indicated the company plans to focus more heavily on direct-to-consumer retail subscriptions going forward. 'It's just taking one step at a time to make sure that we're focused,' he said. For key markets like South Korea and India, Warner Bros. Discovery continues to work through partnerships with Coupang Play and JioStar respectively, though Gibbons suggested these arrangements could evolve as market conditions change. Gibbons emphasized that Warner Bros. Discovery's strategy extends far beyond streaming, leveraging popular franchises for theme park experiences and consumer products. The Harry Potter Studio Tour in Japan, which launched two years ago, remains 'solidly booked out daily,' while a second location is planned for Shanghai. 'When you have a fan base, and you know you have streaming, which is essentially a fan base and IP engine that's building, you have then the opportunity to serve that fan base with experiences, consumer products and games,' Gibbons explained. The executive sees significant untapped potential in the Asia-Pacific region, noting that it's 'home to two thirds of the world's population, three out of the five biggest economies' and represents a 'tremendous market for streaming growth.' Pat Cummins goes against Aussie tradition as baggy green detail comes to light
Pat Cummins has gone against the grain and opted to sport a brand new baggy green for the Test series against the West Indies after a special request was granted for the Aussie captain. The baggy green is arguably the most recognisable and prestigious piece of clothing in Australian sport and players often wear the cap until it is in tatters. The likes of Allan Border, Steve Waugh, Ricky Ponting and David Warner all wore their iconic hat until it was falling apart. Waugh's captaincy changed the perception of what the baggy green stood for in cricketing culture and it became a treasured item in the Aussie sporting landscape. While some do get their cap repaired after years of wear, most players insist on keeping the same item throughout their entire career. Steve Smith recently had the front of his treasured cap fixed after it frayed on the brim having worn it for 16 years. However, Cummins has gone for an alternative approach and opted to replace his tattered baggy green with a new one after 68 Test matches. In the World Test Championship final, fans noticed the Aussie captain's cap was falling apart. He even opted to wear a hat in his post-match press conference. And ahead of the West Indies series, Cummins has been delivered a new cap albeit it with a twist. Cummins wasn't happy with the way his old baggy green was repaired and opted to get Albion to replace his cap, according to reporter Bharat Sundaresan in Barbados. While this is an alternative approach, Cummins' request for Albion to make the cap is big considering Kookaburra have taken over the manufacturing of the iconic piece. Cummins was initially presented his Albion Baggy green on his debut in 2011 against South Africa. Kookaburra took over the contract to make the item in 2016, which meant Cummins was going to have a different manufacturer and a slightly lighter shade of green. Instead, Cummins made sure Albion made his new item and it could be the very last one they do considering it was a request from the captain. "He asked for a new one, but insisted it was an Albion," Sundaresan said on The Final Word podcast. "There is always so many stories for every cricketer who's been fortunate to have got the baggy green." Cummins will wear his new baggy green for the first time on Wednesday when he leads Australia out against the West Indies. The new baggy green will also go along with a fresh starting XI for Australia after going down to South Africa in the WTC final this month. Pat's wearing a brand new baggy green with his old one quite knackered. Of interest to kit badgers: he's very pleased that it is one of the last (possibly the last) Albion. #WIvAUS — Adam Collins (@collinsadam) June 24, 2025 "Every Baggy Green tells a story" Pat Cummins got a new one but made sure it was the classic ALBION brand!#WIvsAUS @YouCanCountOnMB — The Final Word (@Final_Word_Pod) June 24, 2025 RELATED: Alyssa Healy reveals retirement backflip in huge call on future South Africa get last laugh as Aussie sledge backfires badly Speaking ahead of the first ball against the West Indies in Barbados, Cummins revealed the leadership see Cameron Green as their long-term No.3 option. Green was reinstated for the WTC final at No.3, but failed to get into double figures in either innings. However, the captain feels the side is looking to give Green an extended run to show his talent. "We see that (No.3) as a long-term option," Cummins said. "Going in to last week, he's hitting the ball really well. He's moving really well. He had a Test match where it obviously didn't go to plan. The message is not to look too much into that. We're really happy with where his game is placed. I dare say he'll get a decent run at No.3." This comes as Marnus Labuschagne was dropped from the side, which has seen Sam Konstas and Josh Inglis move into the XI. "If there's an opening, we could see him kind of fighting his way back into the Test team at some point, but obviously the focus now is giving a couple of other guys a go," Cummins said in a blow to Labuschagne.
