I was body-shamed by two of the world's biggest supermodels... now I'm fighting back
A former contestant from America's Next Top Model claims that she was body-shamed on the popular competition series. Sarah Hartshorne appeared as the only plus-size model on Cycle 9 of the show, which was created, executive-produced, and hosted by Tyra Banks. In an excerpt from her new memoir seen by Daily Mail, Hartshorne recalls filming the makeover episode of the season, which is where all the contestants would have their hair and appearance drastically transformed as part of a wild photoshoot challenge. Each cycle, the makeover episode would usually include one or two girls who hated their new looks, and then their meltdowns would provide huge drama for the show. When it was Hartshorne's turn to get made over, Banks told her that her long brown locks would be cut into a short blonde pixie cut. While Banks and her co-hosts may have expected Hartshorne to be upset over losing her chestnut tresses, she was actually thrilled with the 'edgy' new look. However, when it came time to film her interview with producers, Hartshorne believes that they tried to coax a negative reaction out of her. 'Are you worried it's going to look masculine?' one producer allegedly asked her. 'Are you worried that this will make you look even curvier? That maybe you'll look more plus-size?' she says they continued. Suddenly feeling 'defeated' after her initial joy, Hartshorne responded, 'Well, I hadn't been worried about looking curvier with this haircut, but I kind of am now.' Hartshorne claims that the producer then started quizzing her on how she felt about the racy photoshoot that she had just done. 'Were you nervous about wearing something so revealing at the photoshoot?' they asked, according to Hartshorne. Hartshorne said that she wasn't nervous at all about the shoot, and that she was so comfortable in her skin that she wouldn't have minded posing completely naked. Pressing her further, she claims that the producer then asked, 'But weren't you worried, as the plus-size contestant, about baring your stomach? And showing so much skin?' When Hartshorne was eventually eliminated from the show in episode seven, she was then criticized for being too slim despite her entire storyline previously centering around her role as the only plus-size model on the season. During her elimination, Banks told her, 'You're very, very good, but the judges feel that your place in the industry is kind of confusing right now, because models are so, so, so skinny or they're plus size.' She continued, 'And you're losing weight. So you're neither. 'And where does that leave you? It's up to you to decide. If you're not confident in yourself, how can we be confident in your abilities?' This isn't the only time during her tenure on the show that Hartshorne says her size came into question. In a previous interview with Page Six, the brunette claimed that legendary supermodel Twiggy, who was a judge on her season, compared her to a 'ham' and criticized her appearance. 'I'm very surprised that this is such a good photo because in person you're actually not very attractive,' she claims Twiggy said. has contacted Banks and Twiggy for comment. Now Hartshorne is fighting back with her tell-all book, 'You Wanna Be on Top?: A Memoir of Makeovers, Manipulation, and Not Becoming America's Next Top Model.' The book, which was released this week, reveals all about Hartshorne's time on the series and her life after reality TV. America's Next Top Model premiered in 2003 and ran for a total of 24 seasons, or 'cycles,' until its cancelation in 2018.

Tyra Banks and her mom break down in tears over model's surprise ice cream shop opening: 'This is dedicated to you'
Supermodel Tyra Banks warmed up her mother's emotions with a sweet treat to a surprise look at her flagship Smize & Dream ice cream shop in Sydney, Australia. The 51-year-old America's Next Top Model creator and fashion icon shared a moving video to Instagram on Tuesday, showing herself surprising mom Carolyn London with a preview of the new location. After London turned around to see the store's facade, she broke down in tears, prompting Banks to cry as well. "Oh my God, it's beautiful," London said, doubling over as Banks held her hand and they walked toward the eatery. London then elaborated on why the moment hit her so deeply. "You worked so hard and I get to see!" she gushed. "It's like a dream. Years and years ago, when I was working so hard as a single mom, I worked more than one job. I worked two jobs. I worked three jobs. I did whatever I could, and the way we would celebrate each week that I got through is I would take her for ice cream in Hollywood." London added, "We would sit in the car and talk about what we wanted out of life and where we wanted to go, and how we wanted to live and her dreams, and try to inspire her to be focused and that ice cream was so special for us." Through tears, Banks told her mother, "It's crazy, mom, because when I look at everything, I can't believe this is real. Yeah, it's my dream, but it's more than what I dreamed," before telling London, "Mama, this is dedicated to you." The video also shows off a handwritten note inside the Smize & Dream store, which is dedicated to London. ANTM winner Nyle DiMarco commented a message of support on the video as well, writing, "I love and miss your mother! Congratulations I'll need to fly to Sydney for your [ice cream]." Banks' mother, who regularly appeared to give pep talks to contestants throughout America's Next Top Model's run, has also worked with her daughter on various professional projects — including a 2018 book, Perfect Is the project, Banks and London discuss their shared affinity for food, and how it served to bond them together when Banks was building her fashion career en route to becoming one of the most influential models in history. Supermodel Tyra Banks shows off her unique style in harem pants as she samples ice cream flavours at her new Sydney store
Tyra Banks has been spotted trying out some of the ice cream flavours on offer at her newly-opened Sydney store SMiZE & DREAM. The former Next Top Model host, who opened the Darling Harbour establishment last week, was all smiles as she popped into the flagship store on Monday. The 51-year-old, who has been living in Australia for nearly two years, stepped out in a bizarre all-black ensemble for the outing. The supermodel kept comfy in an off-the-shoulder black sweater which she paired with loose-fitting harem trousers. On her feet, the 51-year-old wore a pair of matching black sneakers as she made her way around the Sydney waterfront. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Tyra styled her hair straight, with her raven bob cutting just above her shoulders. She paired the look with a bold pink lip and matching rosy cheeks, along with a pair of gold-rimmed, clear-lens glasses. She slung a maroon suede bag over her shoulder as she and her friends sat down for the ice cream date. The business mogul was then seen thoughtfully sampling an ice cream flavour while sitting in a booth. Another showed her laughing hysterically while chatting to a SMiZE & DREAM staff member. Tyra officially unveiled her dream project in Australia – launching her first-ever SMiZE & DREAM ice cream store in the heart of Sydney on Thursday. In an exclusive interview with Daily Mail Australia, the American supermodel-turned-entrepreneur revealed she fell head over heels for the Harbour City after visiting regularly for over a year while producing ice cream for a cruise line account. 'I was coming for about a year and a half and just fell in love with it,' she said. 'And I said, should we make this move? And here we are.' Tyra said Sydney's relaxed charm and community energy helped seal the decision to base her global business Down Under, with one spot standing out above all others. 'I love Darling Harbour because of this park. Tumbalong Park is magical,' she said, adding that even before her shop opened, she and her family would spend their weekends there. 'I have friends that live an hour and a half away and on the weekends they drive here just to go to the water and put their feet in with the kids.' 'There's a playground for older kids, one for younger kids, Darling Square nearby, the harbour – it just felt natural.' Tyra's passion for the brand is personal, down to the flavours themselves. When asked about her favourite scoop, she didn't hesitate. 'My favourite flavour is called Tyra's Favourite – very creative, isn't it?' she laughed. The flavour features salted sweet cream with butter-roasted pecans and a thick, savoury caramel butter swirl. 'It's not your traditional ice cream taste – it has this surprising, rich sensation in the mouth,' she said. Beyond ice cream, the SMiZE & DREAM founder wants the business to stand for something bigger – encouraging others, especially women, to reinvent themselves no matter their age. 'It's never too late,' she said, when asked what advice she had for women starting over. 'But we have to know our stuff. Unfortunately, women – we have to be better. We have to be smarter. We have to know more. 'Just go deep, study hard, walk into that room head held high. You're going to hear no's – but one day you're going to get that yes. And you just have to be ready for it.'
