The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 teaser: 5 subtle clues you might have missed hinting at Belly and Conrad's future

Indian Express26-04-2025

As the countdown to The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 ticks down, the latest teaser has fans debating over Belly and Conrad's future. Jeremiah's front-and-bold storyline in the teaser slyly hints at a major shift in Belly's journey, and probably her romantic interest, as the show introduces a time jump. After a two-year-long wait, Prime Video has finally confirmed the third season of the summer rom-com is arriving on July 16. The third book in Jenny Han's trilogy, on which the show is based, is flipping a new page in Belly's life, especially after she chose Jeremiah in the last season. Now, the teaser is packed with subtle clues that Conrad's return might just shake things up again. From the choice of Taylor Swift songs to that unexpected door scene, there's a lot more going on than meets the eye.

Taylor Swift song choices: Musical foreshadowing
Fans are again divided between Team Conrad and Team Jeremiah. But it seems like the teaser's choice of incorporating Taylor Swift 's songs, similar to previous seasons, might be bad news for fans of Jeremiah. The Cruel Summer singer's music, which always mirrors Belly's inner feelings and emotional phases, starts with Swift's 'Daylight' as she happily continues to thrive in a seemingly perfect relationship with Jeremiah, dancing, kissing, long drives and swoon-worthy moments. However, the mood shifts dramatically when Conrad appears, and the song transitions to 'Red', which seems to symbolise that she secretly still harbours feelings for him. The abrupt song change, especially after the line 'I once believed love would be burning red,' followed by the next shot of her opening the door with Conrad standing there and the lyrics switching to, 'But loving him was red,' says a lot about what's coming.
Plot sticks to the original Jenny Han's We'll Always Have Summer
According to Collider, the upcoming instalment will follow the exact storyline as written in the original novel. A brief scene shows Belly and Conrad unexpectedly meeting at the Cousins Beach house during Christmas (the last door scene). The clip is actually a flashback from We'll Always Have Summer, set around six months before the main events. According to the book, this is the exact time when Belly realises her unresolved feelings for Conrad.

Visual Cues: Belly's red dress
In the teaser, when Belly is with Jeremiah, the whole time she looks happy, seems comfortable and in love, but never once is she seen wearing anything other than light colours. It's mostly beige, blue, or similar shades. However, the moment she meets Conrad, Belly is seen in a red dress. The colour red usually stands for passion and love, maybe hinting at her unresolved feelings for Conrad. This little visual detail lines up perfectly with the song switching to 'Red.'
Conrad returns, and the silence
The Fisher brothers are two ends of the same thread. One suffers quietly, the other is loud, but they're tied by the same grief for their mom (Susannah died in season 2) and the same love for Belly. That push and pull has been done pretty well so far in The Summer I Turned Pretty. Conrad's deep, intense love is his strength, but the wall he builds around himself can get in the way. Meanwhile, Jeremiah's sunshine energy is out in the open, and so are his feelings for Belly. But this time, the silence could be a game changer for Conrad. This time, he ended up saying more than anything Jeremiah ever could. One of the most powerful bits in the teaser is that short silence right after Conrad says 'Hi'. It's barely a second, but it lingers.
A little warning from Jenny Han: Expect some surprises
Just when it felt like things were finally settling, with the teaser setting the tone for a perfect happily-ever-after for Belly and Conrad, author Jenny Han, speaking to Entertainment Weekly, dropped a little warning. 'There are the things they know and then there are things they think they know,' she said. So yeah, things might not play out exactly like in the book. With the time jump, every character has changed. Han hinted that while the titular characters will share some big moments, they'll also be rediscovering themselves, seeing how much they've grown and asking, 'Who are they now?' It's not just the same old love triangle anymore. Earlier, a few photos from the upcoming instalment were released, including one where Conrad is seen hanging out at the beach with Belly, Jeremiah, Steven, and Taylor. Jenny clarified that the moment is actually a flashback, not from the current timeline, so yes, there is going to be a lot of back-and-forth.
The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 starts streaming from July 16.

Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos unsure if launching in India with Sacred Game was ideal, says something ‘more populist' might have worked better: ‘If I did it all over again…'

Sacred Games was the first Indian original series that Netflix ever produced. Starring Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, the show was critically acclaimed, and largely seen as the conduit to a new era of bolder, more challenging programming. The series was based on the book of the same name by Vikram Chandra, and was co-directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap. While it remains one of the most acclaimed series that the Indian streaming industry has produced, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos said that it was perhaps not the ideal way to enter the Indian market. In an appearance on Nikhil Kamath's podcast, Sarandos admitted that the Indian market is a difficult one to crack, mainly because Indian consumers are inherently suspicious of subscription. Netflix has taken a more populist approach to programming in recent years, and has struck deals with the likes of TV mainstays Kapil Sharma and Ekta Kapoor. During the conversation, Sarandos spoke about Sacred Games, and suggested that it might have painted Netflix out to be too high-brow for the Indian consumer. Also read – Vikramaditya Motwane reacts to Saif Ali Khan trashing Sacred Games season 2, explains 'main reason' it didn't meet expectations Asked about India as a market, and the reality that Netflix doesn't have a significant share of it yet, Sarandos said, 'It took us a couple of years to get the product-market fit right. Our very first Indian original show was Sacred Games. And I thought, 'This is going to be great. People in India love movies. This is a TV show that feels as big as a movie, it has movie stars.' What's interesting about it is that it was very, very novel, but what I didn't understand that we were introducing a brand new kind of entertainment in a country the size of India.' He continued, 'For me, if I did it all over again, would I have done Sacred Games a couple of years later, and did things that were more populist (instead)? Maybe. But we knew that India was going to be a slower journey to get to where we wanted to get to. But it's a great prize, at the end of the day. The addressable market is growing in the next couple of years in India, so it's exciting.' Sacred Games was unofficially cancelled after two seasons. Kashyap said that plans for a third season were underway, but Netflix got cold feet after the controversy that erupted around Prime Video's Tandav. He told Mashable India, 'Vikram Motwane was driving Sacred Games. Ten days before I was supposed to go shoot Mukkabaaz, he asked me to come on board. I told him I was always interested, but they had a problem with me. Some local people had told them that I didn't have a female audience. It was my zone, and they eventually came around… A season three was supposed to come out, but they shut it down, Netflix would know why.' He also criticised Sarandos and Netflix in a social media post following the success of Adolescence, and said that the Indian branch of the streamer wouldn't dare greenlight something like it. 'Netflix India is a totally opposite sh**show. If they were pitched this, most probably they would have rejected it or turned it into a 90 minute film (that too seems like an impossibility because it doesn't have an ending that is black and white),' he wrote.

Taylor Swift Jokes About Getting Her First Tattoo After Buying Back Her Music

Last Updated: The singer revealed that she acquired the master recordings with the help of partners at Shamrock Capital. Bringing a long-running battle over the custody of her music to an end, Taylor Swift recently became the rightful owner of her first six albums. In a letter shared on her website, the singer revealed that she acquired the master recordings with the help of partners at Shamrock Capital. Swift even joked about inking a permanent Shamrock Capital tattoo on her forehead. She wrote, 'I've been bursting into tears of joy at random intervals ever since I found out that this is really happening. I really get to say these words: All of the music I've ever made … now belongs … to me. And all my music videos. All the concert films. The album art and photography. The unreleased songs. The memories. The magic. The madness. Every single era. My entire life's work." Expressing gratitude to the private equity company Shamrock Capital, the singer added, 'My first tattoo might just be a huge shamrock in the middle of my forehead." Swift previously said that she was against getting anything permanently inked on her body. 'I don't think I could ever commit," she said in an interview with Taste of Country. 'If I was going to get something, it would be a 13, but, I don't want to get a tattoo." Taylor Swift had been fighting to regain her music rights since 2019 after businessman Scooter Braun's Ithaca Holdings bought her former record label, Big Machine Label Group, for $330 million. Soon after, Braun sold Swift's masters of her first six albums to Shamrock Capital for $405 million. Back then, Swift had publicly stated she wasn't informed of the deal or given a chance to buy them. She wanted to own her masters and had been working to regain control of her music ever since. During this time, the singer released re-recorded versions of four out of her first six albums, including Fearless, Red, Speak Now and 1989. The two left are her 2006 self-titled debut and 2017's Reputation. Since 2019, starting with her album Lover, Swift has been the rightful owner of her master recordings. First Published:
