Ott Tanak can stake World claim, says his leading Northern Ireland engineer Jamie McMillan

Tanak triumphed on a gruelling Acropolis Rally Greece recently to end his, and Hyundai Motorsport's, eight-month-long wait for a Rally1 victory.
The Estonian kept his cool in extreme conditions at the 'Rally of the Gods' to finish with a 32.8-second lead over the Toyota GR Yaris Rally1 of eight-time champion Sebastien Ogier, despite his i20 N Rally1 being struck down with transmission problems right at the death.
The result has significantly boosted his title credentials and moves him to within 12 points of Elfyn Evans and three adrift of Ogier who has only signed up for a partial programme.
Crucial to the result was the work of Tanak's mechanics during service halts, with these operations orchestrated by the 37-year-old's top engineer — Ballyclare's Jamie McMillan.
McMillan feels the manner of the Acropolis performance fuels Tanak's victory hopes going to his home fixture next week.
'For Ott to win in Greece in the fashion he did, in such a positive way, and swing the odds a little bit back in our favour in the World Rally Championship fight is really great,' he said.
'It is definitely nice to get a victory for the team because it has been a long and super busy first six months and, ultimately, having a victory to celebrate in Greece is a big boost.
'The morale is an improvement on where it has been, and our attention has already turned to Estonia.
'We are trying to get the car in as good a window as possible for his home event.'
He added: 'Ott is fast and usually competitive in Estonia, although the high-speed gravel roads are going to be a challenge with the updated 'Evo' car and we are going to have to work hard to pull the package together, to make it work, if we want him to fight for the victory there.
'If we can, then we have Estonia to look forward to and then Finland where the roads are similar.'
McMillan hopes Tanak's run of bad luck in the first half of the campaign is now at an end and those who feed into the No.8 car can pull out all the stops to keep him in the title fight until the final round in November.
'We are not in too bad a position now and hopefully we can take advantage of Seb's absence in Estonia and take some good points and close the gap on Elfyn,' he added.
'If we do that, then the rest of the season should be really interesting — especially as Ott's pace has just always been there.'

McKinlay excited by Hearts analytics drive as Bloom makes his mark

Hearts chief executive Andrew McKinlay has been 'fascinated' to see the Jamestown Analytics software in action this summer. McKinlay confirmed Hearts were close to making Burkina Faso left winger Pierre Landry Kabore their seventh new arrival with a transfer from Estonian side Narva Trans well advanced. Hearts have already signed Christian Borchgrevink, Claudio Braga, Stuart Findlay, Sabah Kerjota, Alexandros Kyziridis and Oisin McEntee, as well as making Elton Kabangu a permanent transfer. Head coach Derek McInnes is keen to add another midfielder but that could depend on trimming his squad. Hearts were using Jamestown earlier in the year but Tony Bloom's recently-ratified investment has seen the player recruitment tool become embedded in the club. 'We did use the analytics piece in January, but this has been the first summer window that we've used it and it's been great, it's been fascinating,' McKinlay told Hearts TV. 'I think it's fair to say, I hope this is the view of the fans, but some of the players that we've brought in so far, they've hit the ground running, some real excitement among some of these players. You can tell we're going to play in a different way. 'What we haven't had yet is the new width on the right, but we've now got Kerjota in and I think as everyone knows, we're hoping to get Kabore over the line as well. It's been brilliant. 'As far as doing any more, the focus is very much now on moving in the other direction. 'That's very much the manager's view on things. Now he's had a chance to assess the squad, there will unfortunately be some players that are just surplus to requirements, just based on a numbers game. 'So we'll hopefully move some players out before the end of the window. Whether we bring any more in will depend partly on what goes out, but it's not that we're not looking, not monitoring, and we'll always be doing that.' Brighton owner Bloom invested almost £10m into Hearts in return for non-voting shares and a representative, James Franks, on the board. 'It's hugely exciting,' McKinlay said. 'We talk about the Derek McInnes era, but we've also got this new era as well, the era with Tony Bloom and his guys becoming involved, and every one of us is more than excited about what that could bring the club in the future. 'James has been widely documented as one of Tony's closest advisors and has been for years and has worked so closely with Tony, but he's never wanted to be involved as closely with a football club as he has with Hearts. 'He's done other deals with Tony, being involved in other clubs, but when he knew that there was a board place here, he approached Tony and said: 'I really want to be the person on that board because I think that what we're going to do there is just going to be incredible, I think I can bring something to it and I want to be part of that'. 'And from the conversations I've had with James, I've got no doubt he'll bring a huge amount to the role, both him personally but also through his contacts at other clubs and other things he has done.' Viktor Gyokeres to take iconic Arsenal shirt number as £63.7m transfer finally agreed

Viktor Gyokeres will ditch the No.9 shirt he wears at Sporting Lisbon when he completes his £63.7million transfer to Arsenal, where he has chosen a famous number Viktor Gyokeres will be stepping into the shoes of Thierry Henry when he completes his Arsenal transfer. After weeks of negotiations, Sporting Lisbon and Arsenal have finally agreed a deal over the striker, who will undergo a medical on Saturday. ‌ Gyokeres is joining the Gunners for £55million plus £8.7m in add-ons, having agreed a five-year deal with Mikel Arteta 's side. He will become the centre-forward the team has craved during their three successive second-place finishes in the Premier League. ‌ It has been 12 days since the two clubs struck an agreement over the top line transfer figure, but talks have continued over the structure of the deal. Finally, everything is in place and Gyokeres has already picked his shirt number. ‌ The 27-year-old is used to talisman status, having worn the No.9 shirt and scored 54 goals in 52 games for Sporting last season as they won the domestic double. And he certainly doesn't appear worried about the expectations on his shoulders in north. London having selected the No.14 shirt at his new club. That number last belonged to Eddie Nketiah, who joined Crystal Palace in a deal worth a potential £30m last summer. It has been empty since then, having previously belonged to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Theo Walcott. Undoubtedly, though, the shirt is most associated with Henry, who had No.14 on his back for the entirety of his eight years at Arsenal, from 1999 to 2007. The Frenchman scored 228 goals in all competitions for the Gunners and is widely regarded as the best player in the club's history, having helped them win two Premier League titles and three FA Cups under Arsene Wenger. Once he has completed his medical, Gyokeres - who has only ever previously worn No.14 during a loan spell at Swansea in 2020/21 - is due to fly out to Singapore to join up with his new team-mates. But intriguingly, his competitive debut for Arsenal is likely to come against Manchester United at the start of the Premier League season on August 17, which is Henry's birthday. No.14 has also previously been worn by Arsenal stalwarts like Ray Parlour and Martin Keown, as well as Kevin Campbell, Perry Groves, David O'Leary and Anders Limpar. Fellow Swede Limpar knows Gyokeres well from their time together at Brommapojkarna when he was younger and is convinced he will be a hit. ‌ 'I know that pretty much all the Arsenal players are top professionals,' he told 'I've been to the training ground, spoken to Arteta. He's Mr 100 per cent professional. And that's what you get from Viktor. 'He's such a prospect when it comes to looking after himself, no scandals, he is a hell of a player. He's a No.9, and can sniff a goal chance. He's going to be the perfect icing on the cake at Arsenal. 'And I don't have to look down on [Kai] Havertz, or [Gabriel] Jesus. But bringing in Viktor at this moment, at his best age and form. He's a goalscoring machine and with all the supply from the wings and from [Martin] Odegaard, he's going to score 25 goals.'
