Trump warns Iran: Enrichment demands risk dangerous consequences
Shafaq News/ On Monday, US President Donald Trump rejected Iran's latest reply to a nuclear proposal, warning that Tehran's demands could collapse the negotiations. 'We're trying to reach an agreement with Iran to avoid destruction and death,' Trump said, but stressed that 'their response is unacceptable.' A meeting with Iranian negotiators is scheduled for Thursday, he announced, adding that 'they're asking for things that simply can't be done.' He reiterated Washington's core objection, 'Iran is pursuing enrichment. That's what we don't want,' warning that failure to reach a deal would carry 'extremely dangerous' consequences. Iran's Atomic Energy Organization had said it would 'never accept zero-percent uranium enrichment,' calling the US demands excessive. Trump also confirmed a recent call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during which they discussed Iran and Lebanon amid other regional developments. Since the US withdrew from the JCPOA in 2018, efforts to revive or replace the agreement have repeatedly stalled. The latest indirect round, held in Rome and mediated by Oman, focused on limiting enrichment levels, which Iran has raised to 60%—far above the JCPOA's 3.67% cap. While Tehran insists its nuclear program serves peaceful purposes, Western officials argue the current enrichment levels lack a plausible civilian justification. Trump's remarks come following Iran's claims that it breached Israeli nuclear facilities and extracted thousands of classified documents, after which theSupreme National Security Council has warned that any Israeli attack on its nuclear facilities would trigger an immediate and proportionate retaliation.

Iran warns Israel: Attack and face immediate retaliation
Shafaq News/ Iran's Supreme National Security Council has warned that any Israeli attack on its nuclear facilities would trigger an immediate and proportionate retaliation, Tasnim News Agency reported on Tuesday. Iran's response would be proportionate to the scale and nature of any aggression, the council stated, framing recent intelligence breakthroughs as part of the Islamic Republic's broader strategy to counter 'enemy provocations' through discreet and calculated measures. The report also claimed that access to "sensitive intelligence" has allowed Iran to complete its 'intelligence-operational cycle,' giving its forces the ability to swiftly strike back. This statement was issued as the United States and Iran resume nuclear negotiations, while Israeli officials voice "growing concern" over Iran's nuclear program and hint at possible military action if diplomacy breaks down.

IAEA director accuses Iran of breaching trust
Shafaq News/ On Monday, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, accused Iran of undermining cooperation by secretly obtaining and analyzing classified UN nuclear documents. Grossi confirmed that the incident dated back several years and was detailed in a confidential agency report circulated to member states on May 31. The report stated the IAEA had 'conclusive evidence' that Iranian authorities had actively collected and reviewed highly sensitive agency materials. Grossi emphasized, 'Such actions are clearly incompatible with the spirit of cooperation.' The IAEA is working to ease tensions amid concerns over a possible Israeli military strike on Iran's nuclear program, he said, highlighting that a thorough verification and monitoring process could provide the necessary reassurance to both Israel and the international community. Regarding Iran's current uranium stockpile, Grossi clarified that uranium enrichment is not in itself banned and acknowledged Iran's repeated assertion of this point. However, he cautioned that Iran's continued enrichment to near weapons-grade levels is unique globally and cannot be overlooked. Turning to Iran's nuclear trajectory, Grossi reiterated that the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) was designed to regulate a very different version of Iran's nuclear program. 'Even if you wanted to revive it, it would not be enough because now they have new technologies,' he remarked. Asked about the potential impact of a resolution by the IAEA Board of Governors on Iran–US nuclear talks, Grossi stated there is 'no formal link' between the two tracks but acknowledged a 'mutual influence.' The resolution, backed by the US, UK, France, and Germany, censures Iran for non-compliance with its safeguards obligations.
