Why NBA champion chose WA's South West as his escape

When you're seven feet tall like former Chicago Bulls star Luc Longley, poking at those hard-to-reach places around the house doesn't often require a ladder.
The three-time NBA champion — now based in Perth — has joined a host of recognisable Aussie sports personalities to star in the latest Kia Tasman ad premiering tonight during State of Origin in Perth.
Lacking the nimbleness of co-stars Ash Barty or former AFL gun Dane Swan, Longley is tasked with getting 'in the paint' as the famous figures give a run-down property some love.

Unfortunately, Longley suggests, raking in rebounds and providing assists to former teammate Michael Jordan came a little more naturally than getting hands-on at home ever has.
Actually, it depends who you ask.
'It's funny, because my wife would say I'm really handy — my friends would say that I'm not,' he told The West Australian.
'I believe in horses for courses. If you want a job done right, you get a professional but I can turn my hand to anything, just probably do it badly, except, obviously for painting, because Ash (Barty) got the best.'
Relocating to Perth in the last couple of years with wife and celebrity chef Anna Gare, Longley spent decades escaping the bright lights of the court and stresses of life in WA's tranquil South West region. Elephant Rocks, William Bay National Park. Credit: Beau Jones @beahjones (Instagram)
In 1991, the 56-year-old purchased a property 15 minutes outside of Denmark upon turning professional.
'It was the first thing I bought with my professional basketball money. And I always wanted to have a sanctuary,' he said.
Claiming the town was 'much sleepier back then', the HoopsFest ambassador was attracted to the natural landscapes and close proximity to the ocean.
He even hosted fellow Sydney Kings co-owner Andrew Bogut, a fellow NBA champion, at his property recently as the pair took a dip in the majestic waters. But Longley wouldn't divulge all of his favourite hideaways.
'Secret spots aren't for giving up, but Greens Pool, Elephant Rocks, Madfish Bay, that whole chain of coast along there is for exploring, for sure,' he said. Andrew Bogut has represented Australia at the Olympics. Credit: METHODE / METHODE
Longley admitted the pair don't always see 'eye-to-eye', but respect what the other has achieved as two of the premier seven-foot exports to find success in the NBA.
As to who would win a one-on-one if each were in their prime, Longley is as curious to find out as the next Aussie basketball fan.
'I'd love to get in that time machine. Have a go at it,' he teased.
'I mean, he was quicker than me, which he'll happily tell you, so I probably would have had trouble with him in the in the full court, but I'd handle him in the half court. No worries.'

NSW fall short of stunning comeback as Maroons tie series

Queensland have held off a furious New South Wales fightback to claim a 26-24 win at Optus Stadium and ensure the State of Origin series goes the distance. Maroon hearts were in mouths for the majority of the second half as NSW threatened to pull off one of the all-time great Origin heists. Amid pouring rain, four unanswered tries had given Queensland the early ascendancy and a handsome 26-6 lead at half-time. But NSW came roaring back with four of their own in the second half as Blues winger Brian To'o finished with a hat-trick. The Blues had the ball deep in enemy territory late, but the Maroons held firm, camped inside their own 10m, to prevent a famous New South Wales win. The difference proved to be the kickers, as Lomax went 2-5 from the tee, while Valentine Holmes converted all four of his conversions and knocked over a penalty. In doing so, Queensland claimed their first win in three Origin attempts in Perth, and levelled this year's series at one-apiece, setting up a decisive live rubber in Sydney next month. (Photo by) Credit: Cameron Spencer / Getty Images Maroons coach Billy Slater had preached the importance of the small details pre-game, urging his side to embrace the pressure which came with being 1-0 down in the series. But after a dominant first-half when they did the simple things right and played with freedom, they were forced to cling on for dear life down the stretch. When To'o gave the Blues an early lead, it felt momentarily as if the events of game one, where NSW dominated from the outset, would repeat. But Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow twice found the try-line inside the next 20 minutes, and after Holmes made it 16-6 with a penalty, Cameron Munster and Kurt Capewell piled on further tries to leave NSW feeling blue. But To'o's second try of the game just after the break gave the Blues a lifeline, and when Stephen Crichton shrugged off three tackles to get his side within 12 points, Maroons fans could have been forgiven for feeling hot under the collar. Queensland had dealt fairly well with NSW's pressure, but Crichton's try reduced their lead to 26-14, although Lomax's tough place-kicking night continued as his conversion clanged off the post. Suddenly, Queensland were at sixes and sevens and with 16 minutes to play, the Blues' No.2 got his third try of the evening, finishing off yet another fluid move out wide. When Kalyn Ponga spilled a deep kick with just three minutes to play, it gave the Blues a chance to steal a famous, series-clinching comeback win. And with the clock kicking down, Queensland's desperate defence came up trumps, forcing a fatal fumble to level the series.

New celeb pics will have you seeing double

Don't miss out on the headlines from Celebrity Life. Followed categories will be added to My News. All eyes were on Kanye West's wife Bianca Censori when she arrived for a spa day, but it wasn't because she was once again near-naked. The 30-year-old drove herself to her beauty appointment in LA on Tuesday, looking almost nude as she embarked from her brand-new Porsche 911 Turbo 4S. Melbourne-born architect Censori put on a leggy display in a nude thong bodysuit with a plunging neckline that showed off some serious cleavage. Completing the outfit were her boots with the fur and black sunglasses. Bianca Censori made a bold fashion statement during a solo outing in Beverly Hills, wearing dramatic white furry boots. Picture: GAMR/KHROME/NEMO / BACKGRID The Aussie looked almost naked in her skin-coloured bodysuit. Picture: GAMR/KHROME/NEMO / BACKGRID With her cascading dark hair and equally dark shades, Censori closely resembled West's first wife, Kim Kardashian. The rapper was married to the reality-star-turned-beauty-mogul for seven years before their split in 2021. In late 2022, he began dating Censori and by December that year, they were married. The star drove herself to her spa appointment in her brand new Porsche 911 Turbo 4S. Picture: SPOT / BACKGRID This isn't the first time Censori has sparked comparisons to Kanye's former wife. Kardashian, 44, was called out for trying to look like her ex's new wife back in February when she rocked a nude leotard with a pair of fairy wings for her Skims shapewear campaign. Censori's latest outfit resembles Kim Kardashian's aesthetic. Picture: Skims Kanye West's first wife is also known for her long dark hair. Picture: SPLASH / BACKGRID In December, Kardashian was also compared to the Aussie model and architect when she posed in a teeny string bikini and plunging top on Instagram. 'Bianca has multiplied,' one person commented on the photo at the time, while another wrote, 'Kimca Censori.' Kardashian has also been called out for looking like Censori in this Skims ad from February. Censori is known to wear her hair slicked back, like she did at the Grammys this year. Picture:Now, it appears Censori has taken inspiration from Kardashian with her latest look as the voluminous hair resembles KK in her Kanye West era. But it appears the Aussie is following in Kardashian's footsteps in more ways than one. This solo outing comes after it was revealed earlier this month that Censori has started her own business empire. According to The US Sun, at the start of June she set up her first US company called Bianca Censori Inc. It was registered last month with the state of California and she is listed as CEO and secretary. It's believed her business will be in the beauty realm, given the chief financial officer is listed as Hussein Lalani, who specialises in selling cosmetic treatments. Lalani founded the skin care brand Zensa, which sells beauty procedures such as a DIY Brazilian wax kit and microblading. Delta Goodrem: Aussie singer gets married to long-time partner Matthew Copley in Malta

Aussie singer Delta Goodrem has tied the knot with long-time partner Matthew Copley on the European island of Malta. The pair are believed to have made their love official on June 16, according to New Idea, after months of speculation regarding their nuptials. In May, Goodrem was seen wearing a wedding band during a London performance at Hackney Empire, but curiously did not appear to be wearing it while treating fans at London's St Pancras International Station to an impromptu performance later in the month. On Tuesday, following their wedding day, the couple were joined by Goodrem's mother Lea and brother Trent as they continued proceedings at a beach club. Glowing under the European sun, Goodrem was seen in a turquoise dress as she embraced loved ones and flaunted her striking engagement ring and wedding band. High-profile friends Richard Wilkins, his son Christian, and TV personality Renee Bargh also made the trip. Goodrem is believed to have met Copley, 38, in 2017 while on tour. She told The Women's Weekly in 2023 that the pair's shared passion for music had blossomed into a love for each other. 'He's my guitarist, I met him through music,' she said. 'It's incredible to be on stage with him because he's so talented. We really are a team. He's my best friend, he's kind and just a beautiful human being. 'But I learnt quite young that I enjoy keeping part of that private.' Malta was not only the setting for the couple's destination wedding, but it was also Copley's location of choice when he popped the question in 2023. With her husband's family largely Maltese, the singer has been open in the past about her love for the island. She even performed at the MTV Malta music festival a couple of years ago. Goodrem wrote on social media at the time, 'Malta you have my heart 🫶🏼what a place!!! performing and then getting to spend time with our beautiful family and friends watching sunsets, swimming in the sea and dancing in the streets 🫶🏻 how lucky are we to do what we get to do 🎵~☀️grateful. La familia!!'
