West Brom chiefs sacked previous boss Tony Mowbray in April.
That decision came after a disastrous run of one win in four games at the end of the season saw them miss out on the play-offs, ultimately won by Sunderland.
Mason has been a coach at Tottenham since 2018 after retiring with a serious head injury, initially starting out in the youth ranks before he moved into the senior side.
The former midfielder has outlasted a number of big name bosses at the north London club, namely, Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte.

Mason was also a key part of the backroom staff of current manager Ange Postecoglou, who guided Spurs to their first trophy in 17 years with the Europa League.
According to The Telegraph, West Brom want their new boss in place well before pre-season and have held talks with several candidates over the position.
However, the Hawthorns outfit were set to offer Mason the job after Spurs' final game of the Premier League season against Brighton - which ended in a 4-1 defeat.
Mason secured his Uefa Pro-licence two years ago and has been linked with managerial posts at Anderlecht and Swansea.

Heitinga to be named new coach of Ajax, says Dutch media
AMSTERDAM, May 30 (Reuters) - Ajax Amsterdam have reached agreement with John Heitinga to take over as new coach, with former club coach Marcel Keizer to serve as his assistant, several Dutch media reported on Friday. The 41-year-old Heitinga moves from Liverpool, where he was one of Arne Slot's assistants in their Premier League-winning season. He will sign a two-year contract, reports across all major Dutch media outlets added, replacing the Italian Francesco Farioli, who resigned earlier this month after Ajax blew a nine-point lead and were pipped to the league title by PSV Eindhoven. There has been no announcement yet from Ajax. Heitinga, who won 87 caps for the Netherlands, worked previously as an assistant to then Jong Ajax coach Keizer in the 2016-17 season. The club's reserves compete in the Dutch second division and were second that season but were not allowed promotion. Heitinga was also acting coach of Ajax from January to June 2023 after the firing of Alfred Schreuder and took them to a third-place finish, as well as the Dutch Cup final, where they lost to PSV on penalties. However, he was not offered the post permanently after that. Keizer was promoted to Ajax coach in mid-2017 but dismissed after five months in charge and replaced by Erik ten Hag, who went on to have a successful run in charge of the Amsterdam side. Ten Hag had been a candidate to return to Ajax for next season but chose to take up an offer from Bayer Leverkusen instead. Heitinga came through the Ajax youth ranks as a player and won two league titles in his eight years in the first team, before going on to play for Atletico Madrid, Everton, Fulham and Hertha BSC. He returned to Ajax in 2015 but soon retired after an assortment of injuries.

Would Walker-Peters be a smart signing?
Everton fan Mike Richards has identified Southampton right-back Kyle Walker-Peters as a player the Toffees should look to sign this 28-year-old is yet to sign a new deal with the Saints and could be available on a free transfer."There has got to be a mixture of deals [this summer] - using cash, the loan market and free transfers," Richards told BBC Radio Merseyside."Someone like Walker-Peters is on a free. We need these kind of players who know the Premier League. He's a good standard and can play left-back and right-back."We are losing Ashley Young, who has done a decent job at left-back and right-back. It is a shame he is gone, but Walker-Peters [would be a good replacement]."He wouldn't be on huge wages and would be helpful at the back."Listen to the full discussion on the summer transfer window on BBC Sounds

Mbeumo and Wissa in Williams' underrated XI of the season
As the dust settles on this Premier League campaign, we asked former England international Fara Williams for her underrated XI for the selected Byran Mbeumo and Yoanne Wissa from Brentford in her team.I can't have one of these without the other really. For a club who finished 10th to have one player score 19 league goals and another score 20 is Ivan Toney departed last summer everyone wondered how Brentford would make up for his goals and I worried they may struggle to stay in the league without their main Thomas Frank has adjusted his system to maximise the effectiveness of Mbeumo and Wissa whose quality and pace has caused so many Premier League teams' defences problems this context, Toney managed 20 league goals in his best season - and these two got 39 between them! It is an unbelievable goal Brentford to be fighting for and talking about Europe deep into the season shows how established they have become as a Premier League club and Bees fans must be raving about this duo every will be the inevitable conversations over whether the club can keep hold of them over the transfer window but regardless of what happens it has been a very special finished the season as the league's sixth-highest scorers. Including the 11 scored by Kevin Schade, their front three scored 50 combined. Fara Williams was speaking to BBC Sport's Nat Hayward
