Mario Bautista felt snubbed out of a post-fight octagon interview after getting his hand raised at UFC 316.
Bautista (16-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC) spoiled Patchy Mix's UFC debut when he won a unanimous decision on this past Saturday's main card at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
Bautista, who was previously coming off a lackluster win over Jose Aldo at UFC 307, wasn't given any mic time with Joe Rogan after beating Mix (20-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC), which rubbed him the wrong way.
"Honestly, I wasn't going in there to change people's minds or anything just because the Aldo fight," Bautista told MMA Junkie. "I knew it was going to be a completely different fight, different game plan and everything. So, I wasn't trying to impress anyone after that Aldo fight. It was just a different fight. I got that job done and didn't even get an interview or anything. It was a little weird, but I figured I'd have my chance with the media in the back, then doing things like this, but yeah, it was a little weird."
Bautista was originally expected to face Marlon Vera but fought Mix after Vera withdrew three weeks out from the fight. He went from a former title challenger to an octagon newcomer but didn't feel any gratitude from the UFC for his willingness to fight anyone.
"I didn't get a thank you or nothing, or like, 'Hey man, we apologize the fight got changed up.' Nothing," Bautista said. "Not even after this fight. Not even just didn't get the interview, I went into the back thinking, 'Maybe they'll say something.' They didn't even say, 'Hey, man, we apologize, the reason for this is this, this and that.'
"If they would have given me a reason, I probably would have been totally cool with it like, 'Oh, I understand.' Trump time delay or whatever it may have been, I would have been cool with it. But just be upfront and honest with me and tell me why. I think I would have felt a little bit better about it."
