Waking up in the early hours to a loud noise, most people would fear the worst—an intruder in the house. But as one homeowner recently shared, that's not always the case.
A video posted to TikTok by user @hs.living has racked up an impressive 8.8 million views, recounting the moment they were startled awake by a "big bang" at 5 a.m. Thankfully, it wasn't a break-in. Instead, it seems their ragdoll cat, Mimi, had taken an unexpected interest in their home renovation project.
The footage shows their newly fitted cream carpets splattered with black paint. The clip ends with a photo of Mimi, who was found "frozen at the top of the stairs, looking down at what she had done. Luckily, she had no paint on her!" states the text in the video.

Uploaded on April 17, the video has captured the attention of TikTok users, many of whom found humor in the mishap.
"God forbid a cat be into abstract art," joked one commenter, earning over 11,000 likes.
"I'd walk out and go find a new house," said another.
A third wrote, "I would tell people it's modern art and leave it at that."
For many cat owners, this scenario might not be all that surprising. Felines are known for their nocturnal bursts of energy—it's just in their DNA. According to Cats Protection, a U.K.-based charity, this behavior reflects that of their wild relatives, such as the African wildcat. Domestic cats descend from these crepuscular creatures, meaning they're naturally active during dawn and dusk—ideal times for hunting small prey like rodents. So, it makes sense that cats often seem to spring to life just as the rest of us are winding down or waking up.
In a follow-up video, the homeowner explained exactly what happened. The slideshow reveals they were first-time buyers and had recently adopted their kitten, Mimi.
Six weeks later, while painting a wall black in the attic, they left the paint in an accessible spot near the top of the stairs. "When I was done with it, it was fully closed but I did leave it in an open accessible area near the top of the stairs," they explained.
The next slide reveals the moment of horror. Mimi, still a kitten at the time, often had late-night "zoomies," frequently crashing into doors and walls. Loud noises in the night weren't uncommon—but this time was different.
"But this time, I woke up to a really loud bang at 5 a.m., so I got out of bed half-asleep to check if Mimi was okay," they wrote.
The sight of the black-stained carpet was too much to handle. The owner recalls "hysterically crying" and frantically calling her husband, who was working a night shift.
He reassured her that the carpet could be replaced if the stains didn't come out—and reminded her that Mimi's safety was the most important thing.
Newsweek reached out to @hs.living for comment via TikTok. We could not verify the details of the case.

Ameera Khan says people mistaken her race as Malay
10 Jun - Ameera Khan recently said that she is not Malay, despite many assuming that she is, seeing that she is the half-sister of celebrity Neelofa. The model, who spoke about her race in a recent TikTok live, said that she is Arab from her mum Noor Kartini's side and Pakistani from her father Abdul Halim Khan's side, which makes her a non-Malay. "But I was born and raised in Malaysia, I can speak Malay and Kelantanese as well. If I can't speak Malay, you can just slap me," she said. Ameera said that she would usually just admit to being Malay to make it much easier for her. "It's not that I don't want to admit it, but my parents don't have Malay blood. It's just that nowadays, I will only answer yes when people ask me such. If I say no, people judge me. So, I'm like yes. Say yes," she said. (Photo Source: Ameera IG, Media Hiburan)

Husky Freaks Out With Excitement When Baby Sister Finally Decides to Pet Her After 10 Months
Husky Freaks Out With Excitement When Baby Sister Finally Decides to Pet Her After 10 Months originally appeared on Parade Pets. Adjusting to a new baby in the household is no easy task — it doesn't matter if you're new parents getting into the flow of a major life change, or the family pet getting used to having a baby in the house. Over time, though, so many parents get to witness the beautiful bond that so many dogs have with their human siblings, even if it takes a little while for that bond to get started. Case in point: The sweet relationship unfolding between the Husky in the video below and her 10 month old baby sister. It may have taken her a little while to gather the bravery to pet her dog, but once she does, it's easy to see she already has her dog wrapped around her tiny baby finger! Dog and human mom @justlifewithstef shared this adorable footage on TikTok that included the very first time that her daughter decided she was finally ready to pet her dog, Stormy. Baby girl listened to mama's instructions to use "gentle hands" perfectly, and it seems like this was a moment Stormy was really looking forward to, because the moment she felt her baby sister's hands on her fur, she flopped over in sheer joy. These two are so sweet together, and it's clear that the time Mom has spent trying to show her daughter the right way to interact with dogs has truly paid off. It probably helps that Stormy is such a sweetheart, too!Commenters can't get enough of these two together, and it's easy to see why — this Husky is absolutely in love with her baby! "Your dog has been waiting for this day!" one commenter wrote. Another shared a comment from Stormy's perspective: "Mom, it's happening! Look!" "You need to be really careful here with babies and dogs. His body language indicates that he's about to claim her as his own and never leave her side," another wrote, adding a winking emoji. Huskies might be big, playful, busy dogs, but they can also be so sweet, and this moment is a prime example of that quality. It seems like this is just the beginning of a beautiful friendship between these two! 🐶🐾🐾 Husky Freaks Out With Excitement When Baby Sister Finally Decides to Pet Her After 10 Months first appeared on Parade Pets on Jun 10, 2025 This story was originally reported by Parade Pets on Jun 10, 2025, where it first appeared.
