No road closures for Asean Foreign Ministers' Meeting, says Fahmi
"There will be no road closures for this event. However, for the 47th Asean Summit scheduled in October, more information will be provided as the date approaches."
Previously, a large-scale dry run involving traffic control and road closures in preparation for the 46th Asean Summit 2025 was conducted.
Five highways and 25 roads across the capital were affected during the summit.
Among the affected routes were those linking Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang to the city centre, official accommodation venues, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) and Istana Negara.
The affected highways were Maju Expressway, Duta–Ulu Klang Expressway, Ampang–Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway, Shah Alam Expressway and the SMART Tunnel.

KUALA LUMPUR: The ASEAN AI Safety Network (AI Safe) will be officially endorsed at the 47th ASEAN Summit in October 2025, with its initial rollout expected by early 2026. ASEAN Secretary-General Dr Kao Kim Hourn confirmed the initiative, highlighting its role in advancing responsible artificial intelligence development. He stated that AI Safe reinforces ASEAN's commitment to embedding safety, ethics, and governance in AI systems while supporting the ASEAN Responsible AI Roadmap. 'The establishment of ASEAN AI Safe aligns with global calls for an international network to tackle AI safety risks through collaboration among governments, academia, and industry,' Kao said at the ASEAN Artificial Intelligence Malaysia Summit 2025. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim launched Malaysia's locally developed AI, 'ILMU', during the event, a project by YTL AI Labs in partnership with Universiti Malaya. Kao noted that despite global economic uncertainties, AI continues to revolutionise economies, societies, and daily life worldwide. He added that the inaugural ASEAN AI Summit serves as a platform to strengthen regional cooperation and foster innovation-driven digital transformation. AI is projected to contribute between 10% and 18% of ASEAN's GDP by 2030, amounting to nearly US$1 trillion. Additionally, Kao highlighted the ASEAN Digital Economic Framework Agreement (DEFA) as a priority, aiming to expand the regional digital economy to US$2 trillion by 2030. – Bernama

Azalina puts ‘quick-win' criminal law reforms on the table, including end to caning
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 — The Criminal Law Reform Committee (CLRC) has identified several 'quick-win' reforms that can be implemented in the short term to deliver immediate benefits to the public. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said these include abolishing caning as a punishment, giving judges greater discretion in sentencing and improving the remand process. 'Other measures involve expanding community service orders for minor offences as an alternative to imprisonment, strengthening the e-Plea of Guilt (e-PG) system, enhancing pre-trial document disclosure procedures and introducing fixed timelines for bail decisions. She was speaking at a Ministerial Briefing on efforts to reform criminal law in Malaysia at the Dewan Rakyat's Special Chambers today. The CLRC, established on March 24, is tasked with a comprehensive review of the Penal Code (Act 574), Criminal Procedure Code (Act 593) and Evidence Act 1950 (Act 56). Azalina said the committee will also examine consequential amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code, the moratorium on the death penalty, the possible introduction of deferred prosecution agreements and issues relating to cybercrime and national security offences. The CLRC has held engagement sessions with stakeholders, including enforcement agencies, the judiciary, civil society organisations and public universities, as well as town hall meetings in Sabah and Sarawak, to gather direct feedback, particularly on specific issues and proposed quick-win reforms. 'In line with the Madani Government's vision, reforms to Acts 574, 593 and 56 aim to ensure our criminal justice system remains relevant and meets the needs of modern society,' she said. Anwar urges Asean to define global AI future through regional principles, ethics
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today called on Asean to seize what he described as a 'generational opportunity' to shape artificial intelligence (AI) in ways that are inclusive, ethical and anchored in the region's shared values. He said the bloc's 700 million citizens, fast-growing digital economy and cultural diversity placed it in a unique position to bridge development gaps, empower small businesses, uplift rural communities and strengthen public services through AI. 'Our vision must be to harness AI not simply to catch up with the rest of the world, but to lead it — offering a model of innovation grounded in trust, rooted in equity and proudly shaped by Southeast Asian values,' he said in his keynote address at the Asean AI Malaysia Summit 2025 at Mitec here. Anwar said the true measure of AI's success should be its ability to meaningfully improve lives in a sustainable, inclusive and just manner, rather than the sophistication of its technology. He also outlined Malaysia's 'AI Nation Framework', introduced under the recently launched 13th Malaysia Plan, which he said would ensure AI works for all Malaysians by powering better governance, sparking innovation and improving livelihoods nationwide. He said the framework is built on five pillars — forward-looking policies; an agile and digitally fluent workforce; secure and reliable digital infrastructure; the advancement of digital trust; and strategic investments to grow a thriving AI ecosystem through public–private partnerships and global collaboration. 'This is more than a roadmap. It is a movement. The Ministry of Digital, with the National AI Office at its core, will lead this initiative. Once, highways and ports powered our economic rise,' he said. 'Now we will build intelligent highways, secure data pipelines, future-ready talents and ethical guardrails for AI,' he added.
