5 face packs to help close those stubborn open pores

This article explores simple, budget-friendly homemade face packs using ingredients readily available in Indian kitchens to minimize the appearance of open pores. It highlights five easy-to-make packs, including Multani mitti with rose water, tomato with lemon juice, and besan with turmeric and curd, emphasizing their natural benefits for achieving fresher, firmer, and glowing skin with consistent use. O pen pores are something almost all of us deal with. They usually show up around the nose, cheeks, and forehead, and once we notice them, they somehow become all we see in the mirror. Add in our Indian weather, dust, pollution, and busy lifestyles, and those pores can look even more obvious. While we can't erase pores completely since they are a natural part of healthy skin, the good news is that we can definitely make them appear tighter and smaller with some simple care. And we don't always need expensive serums or salon facials. Our kitchens have been stocked with remedies for generations. Here are 5 easy face packs that we can turn to whenever open pores need a little taming. Multani mitti and rose water pack This is one of those classic remedies most of us have grown up hearing about. Multani mitti has a natural cooling effect and absorbs oil beautifully, while rose water tones the skin. How to use it: Mix 2 tablespoons multani mitti with enough rose water to form a paste. Apply, leave for 15 minutes, and wash with cold water. Result: Fresher, cleaner skin with pores that feel instantly tighter. Tomato and lemon juice pack Tomato is a natural astringent, and lemon is packed with Vitamin C. Together, they're a powerhouse for dull, oily skin. How to use it: Blend one ripe tomato into pulp, add 1 teaspoon lemon juice, apply, and keep for 10–12 minutes before rinsing. Result: Pores look more refined and skin feels brighter. Just follow up with moisturiser to avoid dryness. Besan, turmeric and curd pack This ubtan-style mix has been part of Indian beauty traditions forever. It's simple, nourishing, and effective. How to use it: Mix 2 tablespoons besan, a pinch of turmeric, and 2 tablespoons curd. Apply evenly, leave for 15–20 minutes, and rinse. Result: Skin feels firmer, smoother, and softly exfoliated. Green tea ice cubes This quick trick is a saviour on hot days when skin feels oily and pores look larger than usual. Do It Yourself: How to make face masks at home How to use it: Brew green tea, pour into an ice tray, freeze, and gently rub a cube over the face. Result: Instant cooling, tighter pores, and refreshed skin. Aloe vera and cucumber pack Both aloe and cucumber are known for their soothing qualities, and together they hydrate and firm the skin without any heaviness. How to use it: Mix 2 tablespoons aloe vera gel with 2 tablespoons cucumber juice. Apply a thick layer, leave for 20 minutes, then rinse with cold water. Result: Skin feels calm, plump, and fresh, with pores looking less visible. Things to remember Always cleanse before applying any pack. Twice or thrice a week is plenty. Use a light moisturiser afterwards. Gentle care works better than harsh scrubbing. With regular use, results gradually show up. Open pores are part of our skin's natural structure, but with a little care, we can manage them beautifully. These homemade face packs are simple, budget-friendly, and have been trusted in Indian households for years. Sometimes, the most effective skincare isn't about what's in a bottle. It's about what's already in our kitchens. With consistency, we can all enjoy skin that feels fresher, firmer, and naturally glowing. NEET cut-off dip a shot in arm for Indian med

Chennai: As admissions to medical and dental courses are likely to get tougher this year, more students have applied for Indian medicine – ayurveda, siddha, and unani – and homeopathy in 2025. Officials say an increase in sales of application forms reveals more students are turning to Ayush as a career option. When the deadline for applications ended on Thursday, the state committee for admissions in Indian Medicine had received about 7,900 applications, nearly 500 more than in 2024. The sale of applications had commenced on July 24. TN offers 320 seats in two govt siddha medical colleges, located in Arumbakkam and Palayankottai, as well as one college each in unani (Arumbakkam), homeopathy (Madurai), and ayurveda (Kanyakumari). Of these 320 seats, 48 are set aside for admission through All India quota. In addition, there are 1,920 seats in 29 private Ayush colleges. In 2024, when NEET scores in Tamil Nadu, and across India, soared, the top student to join the bachelor's course in Siddha medicine had a NEET score of 592/720. Top score was 585 for ayurveda, 551 for unani, and 547 for homeopathy. The difference in scores between students who joined govt colleges wasn't huge, as the last candidate to join siddha had a score of 539. Barring unani, where the cut-off was 433, all others had a cut-off above 500. Overall, the cut-off for Ayush admissions surged by up to nearly 300 marks in select categories. All seats in undergraduate courses for unani and siddha across colleges were taken, while five in ayurveda and 19 in homeopathy were vacant after nearly five rounds of counselling. This year, the cut-offs may come down drastically as scores in NEET 2025 were lower compared to the previous year's scores. Considering that students are bunched up between 400 and 550 marks, experts say many students are likely to take up admissions in bachelor's programmes of Indian medicine.
