AIFF refutes Mohun Bagan's claims of mismanaging Subhasish Bose's Injury, issues statement

Noting Mohun Bagan's allegations of mismanaging Subhasish Bose's injury, AIFF has issued a statement clarifying that the player sustained the injury during the ISL final.
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has refuted Mohun Bagan Super Giant's allegations regarding the injury of club captain and Indian national team player Subhasish Bose.
In a detailed letter to the Kolkata club, the AIFF clarified that Bose sustained his injury during the Indian Super League final in April, and not during the Asian Cup qualifying match against Bangladesh in March.
AIFF refutes MBSG's claim
To prove their case, the AIFF cited the national men's team's medical department's opinion.
'Subhasish Bose was not injured during the AFC Asian Cup – 2027 qualifier match vs Bangladesh on March 25th, 2025 in Shillong, where he played 85 minutes and was substituted on a tactical decision and not due to any injury,' the letter written by AIFF deputy general secretary M Satyanarayan said.

'After that, he played full time in both the legs of the ISL semifinals on April 3rd and 7th respectively and 90 minutes in the ISL final on April 12th, where he was substituted. He attended the National Team camp on 18th May 2025 and after 1-2 training sessions, he complained of right groin discomfort.
More from Football
'On eliciting the history, he informed the medical team that he had sustained an injury to his right groin during the final of ISL on 12th April 2025.'
Mohun Bagan Super Giant won the ISL final against Bengaluru FC 2-1 in Kolkata on April 12.
The AIFF stated that Mohun Bagan Super Giant did not inform the national federation about Bose's injury.
'After the injury, what he did was taking rest only and attended the camp with a lay-off of more than a month. No investigations or rehab was done during that period. This was not informed to the national team medical department or the support staff by the club.
'When he started to have mild discomfort, his load was reduced, given rest from training for five days along with treatments and separate sessions for rehab were given.'
According to the letter, Bose was released from the camp on June 5 based on the national team medical department's advice.
'Though he was symptomatically better and the coach wanted him for the AFC Asian Cup Qualifier match on the 9th of June, given his persistence of vague discomfort and the risk of aggravating his injury, he was released from the camp upon the medical team's advise on 5th June 2025.

'The medical team was keeping in touch with Subhasish regarding his progress, while he was rehabilitating with the club medical team.'
MBSG official alleged Bose suffered injury during Bangladesh game
The AIFF's clarification has come after an MBSG official earlier told PTI that skipper Subhasish Bose has been sidelined due to the injury he sustained during India's Asian Cup qualifier against Bangladesh.
'Look at Bose… He's under rehab, missed the entire season so far, we are paying his salary, and yet the federation hasn't even called once to inquire about him,' He said. 'Unless it is a FIFA international window, it is not mandatory for the club to release its players as there is no compensation in case of injury. Hence, we are not releasing anyone for this camp… Every time they take our players, three or four of them return injured, and the AIFF is least bothered to communicate, compensate, or even check on them'.

Rohit Sharma and BCCI set for major talks over captain's ODI future in October: Report

Amid the uncertainty over Rohit Sharma's ODI future, an explosive report has claimed that the BCCI may hold talks with the Men in Blue captain after the Asia Cup 2025 as the board prepares future plans. Rohit Sharma could retire from ODIs as well after the Australia tour in October. Image: PTI India's current ODI captain Rohit Sharma is set to hold major talks with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over his future with the Men in Blue after the Asia Cup 2025, according to a media report. Rohit, who has already retired from T20Is and Tests, continues to be India's captain in the 50-over format. However, it's important to note that India has not played any ODI since the Champions Trophy 2025 final in early March 2025. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The 38-year-old Rohit's next international match will be in October when India will be travelling to Australia for a three-match ODI series. The ODIs in Bangladesh that were to happen in August have been cancelled, forcing Rohit into an unintended long break. Rohit-BCCI meeting after Asia Cup 2025 His prolonged absence from the international scene has also raised questions on whether he is the right man to captain the Indian ODI side, as he would be over 40 by the time the 2027 World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia comes around. Earlier, a report in Dainik Jagran had claimed that Rohit and Virat Kohli could be asked to retire from ODIs after the Australia tour in October. Another report in the same newspaper has now claimed that BCCI is planning to hold a discussion with Rohit after the Asia Cup 2025, which ends on 28 September. The meeting that means could take place in October. The Asia Cup will be played in the T20I format and after the tournament, the BCCI will hold a meeting to discuss the future strategy for the ODI team. This will then be communicated to both Rohit and Kohli. The next big calls in ODI team selection will depend on the decisions of Rohit and Kohli, but the report added that a BCCI source has claimed Shreyas Iyer is the favourite to replace Rohit as ODI captain. BCCI wants Iyer to suceed Rohit in ODIs The BCCI source said that BCCI is looking at Iyer as the next ODI captain, at least till the 2027 ODI World Cup, and this responsibility would not go to Shubman Gill, who is already the Test captain and now the vice-captain in the T20Is. Gill is expected to replace Suryakumar Yadav as India's T20I captain after the 2026 World Cup. Meanwhile, it has also been reported by RevSportz that Rohit may play the unofficial three-match ODI series between India 'A' and Australia 'A' in Mumbai in September-October in Kanpur. Currently, he is undergoing individual training with former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar in Mumbai.

Watch: Hardik Pandya Shreds Jasprit Bumrah In Unseen Video, Pacer Gives Apt Reply

Last Updated: Jasprit Bumrah showed Hardik Pandya who's the boss during a nets session for Mumbai Indians. IPL franchise Mumbai Indians have shared an unseen video of skipper Hardik Pandya and ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah engaging in a captivating duel during a center-wicket practice session at this year's Indian Premier League. Both MI stars showcased their competitive intensity, with neither willing to give up an inch. The duel between the two Indian aces started with Pandya hitting Bumrah for a six straight down the ground, having picked up the delivery early. The allrounder followed by sending a wayward fuller ball for what would have been an easy four through the fine-leg region. At this point, Pandya appeared to have the upper hand. Bumrah then responded with a characteristic inch-perfect yorker that even the powerful Pandya couldn't handle. Despite standing deep in the crease, Pandya couldn't get his bat down in time to fend off Bumrah's searing yorker, which shattered the base of the leg-stump. Pandya seemed impressed by the quality of the delivery, while Bumrah wore a wry smile as he turned and walked back to his mark. In the background, other Mumbai Indians players and support staff could be heard applauding Bumrah's yorker, shouting 'well bowled!!" in appreciation. The pinpoint yorker came shortly after Bumrah's return to competitive cricket following a grueling back injury rehab. The lethal pacer missed the first three games of MI's IPL 2025 campaign as he awaited fitness clearance from NCA physios and medical staff, sustained at the start of the second innings of the New Year's Test in Sydney. Bumrah developed excessive stress on his back after bowling 151.2 overs and taking 32 wickets in the series against Australia. Despite the injury, he emerged as one of MI's top performers of the season, claiming 18 wickets in 12 games with an impressive economy rate of 6.77. Meanwhile, Pandya inspired Mumbai's turnaround after a poor start, scoring runs at a strike rate of 163.50 and taking 14 wickets. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Ex-Selector Questions Harshit Rana's Selection: 'Clearly He Has Gambhir's...'

Last Updated: Jatin Paranjape questions Shreyas Iyer's Asia Cup 2025 snub and Harshit Rana's selection over Prasidh, noting Iyer's strong IPL 2025 performance and Gambhir's backing for Rana. Former India cricketer and selector Jatin Paranjape has questioned the fates of batter Shreyas Iyer and Harshit Rana for the country's Asia Cup 2025 squad selection. He said 'at least three or four players' could have made way for Iyer, who was snubbed, while Rana's inclusion over IPL 2025 Purple Cap winner Prasidh was a 'surprise' and a suggestion that he had the 'full backing' of coach Gautam Gambhir. Shreyas took Punjab Kings to the final of the league, apart from scoring 604 at a brilliant strike rate of 175. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar was asked the reason behind his snub, and he said that it wasn't the Mumbaikar's fault and there wasn't a space for him, asking in return who could have been dropped to make way. 'As always, it's a very strong Indian team that will take the field at the Asia Cup," Paranjape told IANS. 'T20 is a format where India has done really well, and being the current world champions only adds to the confidence. The competition for places is so intense that any squad selection is bound to invite debate." 'For me, Shreyas Iyer's exclusion stands out, I felt he should have been part of this squad, and there are at least three or four players who could have made way for him. I was also a bit surprised to see Harshit Rana in the mix. Clearly, he has the coach's full backing, but I thought someone like Prasidh Krishna might have been a better pick," he added. While Prasidh is part of the reserves in the squad, Shreyas isn't. India's Full Squad For Asia Cup 2025: Suryakumar Yadav (captain), Shubman Gill (vice-captain), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Jitesh Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Varun Chakaravarthy, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Sanju Samson and Harshit Rana. Standbys: Prasidh Krishna, Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel and Yashasvi Jaiswal view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
