Washington Spirit GM Mark Krikorian steps down
The move coincides with the expiration of his three-year contract. Krikorian said he informed club owner Michele Kang over the winter that he made the "difficult decision" to leave his role.
"When I came here in the spring of 2022, I wanted to help establish the Spirit as a perennial contender in the NWSL and one of the best clubs in the world," he said. "I felt that over the past three years we built a foundation that can last while assembling a roster that can immediately compete for championships."
Last season, the Spirit won a franchise-record 19 matches and made the NWSL championship finals, losing 1-0 to the Orlando Pride.
For now, sporting director James Hocken and assistant general manager Nathan Minion will run the club's soccer operations.
Krikorian, who turns 65 this week, has spent more than 30 years working in the collegiate, international and professional women's soccer levels. Prior to joining the Spirit, he was the head coach at Florida State, where he led the Seminoles to NCAA championships in 2014, 2018 and 2021. He was named National Coach of the Year three times and won the honor in the Atlantic Coast Conference five times.

Report: Chicago Stars to hire ex-Norway coach Martin Sjogren
August 13 - Former Norwegian women's national team coach Martin Sjogren has been hired by the NWSL's Chicago Stars, according to a report on Tuesday. Sjogren is currently coaching Hammarby in the Damallsvenskan, Sweden's top women's league. Hammarby's season concludes in November, prior to the NWSL Championship, but prior to the 2026 season, which begins in January. It has been a tumultuous season in the Windy City, as the Stars have been through three head coaches and have only one win in 15 contests (1-9-5). They are just two points ahead of last-place Utah and a dozen points behind eighth-place Gotham FC, the team currently in the final playoff position. Only 11 contests remain in the regular season. Lorne Donaldson, who guided the Stars to a playoff berth in 2024, was terminated in April and replaced by assistant coach Masaki Hemmi. Hemmi departed in July to take the head coaching position with Lexington SC of the USL Super League. Ella Masar took over as the second interim coach of the season and is currently guiding the squad. Sjogren served as Norway's head coach from 2016-22 and piloted the 2019 squad to the quarter-final round of the World Cup. But the team struggled in 2016 and 2022, failing to make it out of the group stages and Sjogren resigned after the 2022 European Championships. Sjogren, who competed collegiately at the University of North Florida (2000-01), has never coached in the United States. --Field Level Media

They eventually posted 122 for six thanks to a sixth-wicket stand of 45 runs between Deandra Dottin (36) and Alice Monaghan (18no) but it was not enough to prevent Spirit from going top of the table.
