DC warns pvt schools over RTE non-compliance

Time of India15-07-2025
Ranchi: Deputy commissioner, Manjunath Bhajantri, on Tuesday issued strict directives to private schools that have failed to admit students under the Right to Education (RTE) Act.
Schools absent from the official review meeting were served final warnings along with show cause notices. They have been told to complete the enrolment process failing which their RTE recognition would be cancelled.
The action was taken during a meeting held at the Ranchi district collectorate auditorium, where the DC reviewed the status of enrolment under the RTE provision mandating 25 per cent reservation for children from disadvantaged backgrounds in primary classes of all recognised private schools.
For the 2025-26 academic session, 1,217 RTE seats were open in 121 private schools in the district for which altogether 1,744 applications were received. Of these, 1,158 were found valid. As of now, 672 seats have been allocated through lottery system, of which enrolment process of 493 are complete. Some of the remaining applications were sent back to schools for urgent processing.
The deputy commissioner directed that these pending applications must be acted upon immediately.

If any application is cancelled without valid reason, it will be replaced with another eligible student to ensure the reserved quota is fulfilled.
Particular criticism was directed at Delhi Public School (DPS) Ranchi, which has failed to admit 24 selected students citing incomplete documentation. The deputy commissioner said, "The referred applications were already verified and termed the school's excuses unacceptable.
If valid reasons are not provided soon, DPS may also face cancellation of its RTE recognition."
Jaya Chauhan, principal of DPS, Ranchi, said, "The applications were rejected due to absence of proper admission documents. However, around 15 admissions have already been completed for candidates who submitted the required papers."

KU crisis: Pro-left syndicate members counter Gurukkal's statement, demand its withdrawal

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Pro-left Syndicate members of Kerala University have urged Kerala State Higher Education Council vice-chairperson Rajan Gurukkal to retract his statement blaming the Kerala University Syndicate for the current crisis in the university. The Syndicate members said Gurukkal's aspersions on the Syndicate were not only erroneous but also lent unintended grist to the Sangh Parivar's mill. In a statement on July 20, Gurukkal had said the Syndicate's ignorance of the Act and Statutes was the prime reason for the crisis. According to M Lenin Lal, pro-LDF syndicate member, Gurukkal's accusation of statutory violations by the Kerala University Syndicate is wholly unfounded. The real flashpoint lies in the overreach of Vice-Chancellor-in-Charge Mohanan Kunnummal. On July 2, Kunnummal suspended Registrar K.S. Anil Kumar for cancelling a private event at the Senate Hall, where a portrait of Bharat Mata, adorned with a saffron flag, was displayed in the presence of Governor Rajendra Arlekar. Citing Section 10(13) of the Kerala University Act, Kunnummal claimed an emergency necessitated his decision. However, Section 10(14) explicitly restricts the Vice-Chancellor's authority to suspend officers above the rank of Deputy Registrar, such as the Registrar, a senior officer under Chapter III, Section 9.

Weighing over 7 tons, this new version of the Tayfun, with its multi-purpose warhead, will be capable of destroying numerous strategic targets, such as air defense systems, command and control centers, military hangars, and critical military facilities, from kilometers away," the Turkish defence major press release stated. Even though the range of Tayfun Block 4 has not been disclosed officially, defence experts believe it will be able to strike targets 1000 kilometers away. Live Events A NATO member since 1952, Türkiye is only the second country after the United States of America in the military alliance to arm its defence forces with hypersonic missiles. Tayfun missile features An upgraded variant of the Tayfun missile, which is already in service with the Turkish defence forces, the hypersonic model can take out strategic targets, including enemy air defense systems, command posts, and aircraft hangars. Rokestan added that its circular error of probability (CEP), the measure of a missile's accuracy, is no more than 5 meters. It means that there is a 50% probability that the missile will land within 5 meters of the target painted. With a length of 10 meters long and a diameter of 938 mm, Tayfun Block 4's range is not yet official but estimated to be between 800-1000 km. Its previous version, the Tayfun short-range ballistic missile, has a maximum reported range of 800 km (500 mi). Tayfun Block 4 weighs 7,200 kg and has a go-onto-location-in-space (GOLIS) guidance system, which means the details of the enemy target are fed before the launch. Weighing 2,300 kg, the Tayfun is shorter than its hypersonic cousin and measures at 6.5 meters. It is solid fuel powered with a diameter of 610 mm and a payload capacity of 500 kilograms which includes high explosives (HE) or fragmentation. Its guidance system uses GPS + GLONASS aided INS and/or INS only to strike targets. The missile is truck mounted and uses the VOLAT platform for transportation and firing.
