PBA: ROS guard Felix Lemetti out for rest of Philippine Cup due to hand injury
Rain or Shine will be one man down heading to the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup playoffs as Felix Lemetti has been ruled out for the remainder of the conference.
According to the Elasto Painters, the Filipino-Swedish guard sustained a left-hand fracture during a team practice on Monday.
"Felix Lemetti sustained a left-hand fracture during yesterday's team practice and will be out for the rest of the conference," Rain or Shine said in a Facebook post.
"Speedy recovery, Felix!"
The Elasto Painters are coming off a 109-99 win over Phoenix last Wednesday that solidified their quarterfinals spot with Adrian Nocum and Jhonard Clarito leading the way with 30 and 20 points apiece.
Rain or Shine, who now holds a 5-3 win-loss record, will now be needing more of that with Lemetti now out for the rest of the season.

DepEd revises policy, widens entry age for Kindergartens
The new policy states that children who turn five years old on or before October 31 of the school year, from the current August cutoff, may now enroll in Kindergarten. The Department of Education (DepEd) has revised the age cut-off policy for admission, which will expand the window for learners turning five years old. Due to this, DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara said more Filipino children would be eligible for Kindergarten. The new policy will take effect this School Year 2025-2026. 'This policy is rooted in our understanding that every child grows and learns at their own pace,' Angara said in a press release on Thursday. 'By allowing more flexibility in the Kindergarten age requirement, we are making sure that each learner has the opportunity to start strong and succeed from day one.' The new policy states that children who turn five years old on or before October 31 of the school year may now enroll in Kindergarten. This extends the previous cut-off date of August 31, which eases restrictions for families with children born later in the year. The policy also allows conditional admission for children turning five between November 1 and December 31, provided that they complete a one-year Early Childhood Development (ECD) program from a recognized center or pass an ECD readiness checklist during enrollment. The DepEd said private schools are covered by the directive but may implement additional readiness assessments as part of their screening process. In 2024, more than 1.8 million Kindergarten learners were enrolled across the country out of 26.4 million learners nationwide. The DepEd anticipates a higher turnout this year, with public school enrollment scheduled from June 9 to 13, 2025, and classes starting on June 16.—LDF, GMA Integrated News

PBA: Phoenix spoils Calvin Abueva's NorthPort debut as Jason Perkins waxes hot
Jason Perkins got hot right in the payoff period as he guided Phoenix to a morale-boosting 118-107 win against NorthPort in the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup on Wednesday at the PhilSports Arena. The veteran big man scored 13 of his total output in the fourth, including three booming three-pointers that basically sealed the victory for the Fuel Masters. With the win, Phoenix halted a four-game slide to improve to 3-7 while the Batang Pier slipped to 1-8. In a battle of two also-ran squads, Phoenix still left it all out on the court and took command of the match almost all game long before NorthPort made a desperate run to end the third down by just two, 82-80. Perkins, alongside Ken Tuffin, had an exchange of points with newly-traded forward Calvin Abueva and Joshua Munzon that saw Phoenix building a 100-91 cushion. Perkins then took over from that point, burying a pair of triples to extend their lead to 14 with 3:28 to go in the game, 109-95. The former La Salle standout then completed a layup and a jumper for a 113-95 advantage while JC Cullar, Raffy Verano, and Ricci Rivero finished it off with trips to the charity line. Perkins posted 26 points on 4-of-7 shooting from downtown while also grabbing eight rebounds and four assists while Kai Ballungay churned out 17 markers, nine boards, one dime, and one block to deliver their third win in 10 games. Tuffin and Rivero chipped in 14 points each as RJ Jazul chimed in with 10. —JMB, GMA Integrated News

PBA: Rain or Shine turns back upset-minded Terrafirma, boosts playoff bonus bid
Playoff-bound Rain or Shine weathered a fourth-quarter storm from Terrafirma, cruising to a gritty 94-85 win to improve its twice-to-beat incentive drive in the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup on Wednesday at the PhilSports Arena. The Elasto Painters nearly squandered an 18-point lead, but found a lifeline late in the game in the form of Andrei Caracut, Jhonard Clarito, and Caelan Tiongson to douse the upset hopes of the Dyip and improve to 6-3. Clarito led the charge with 12 points, five rebounds, three steals, and one assist while Caracut chipped in 11 markers, two boards, and one dime. Rain or Shine also got solid outings from Santi Santillan, Francis Escandor, and Anton Asistio, all of whom churned out 10 points. Terrafirma, who opened their campaign with a win over Phoenix, have now absorbed its ninth straight loss to go 1-9 with only one game left in its schedule. Despite the win, Rain or Shine head coach Yeng Guiao still lauded the fight displayed by the Dyip, stressing those who have nothing to lose are the most dangerous to compete against. "Mahirap kasi if you give them a small window, they're going to gain confidence. It's really different playing without pressure for them and just trying to give a good show so 'yun 'yung sinasabi ko sa kanila na mag-ingat talaga tayo," Guiao said. "Ayun nangyari nga, but it's a good thing we were able to hold them back." [It's hard if you give them a small window, they're going to gain confidence. It's really different playing without pressure for them and just trying to give a good show so that's what I've been telling them, to be cautious... And that's what happened, but it's a good thing we were able to hold them back.] The Elasto Painters, playing with a depleted roster, built a lead as big as 73-55 when newly-signed Kris Porter completed a layup to end the third period ahead by 18. But Terrafirma caught fire from the downtown with Aldrech Ramos, Paolo Hernandez, and Louie Sangalang each burying a triple each to cut the deficit to six, 67-73, early in the fourth. Stanley Pringle and Brent Paraiso then powered a 13-10 run that saw them further trimming the gap to just three, 80-83, with 3:33 left in the game. Caracut, however, provided the finishing spark after fueling a personal 7-0 blast that allowed Rain or Shine to build another double-digit lead at 90-80. Clarito's miracle and-one three-pointer over the defense of Keith Zaldivar in the last 42.1 seconds proved to be the dagger as Rain or Shine forced a two-way tie with Ginebra at fourth spot. Sangalang, whose 15-point outburst in the third kept Terrafirma afloat, finished with 22 points laced with four rebounds, three assists, and three blocks. —JMB, GMA Integrated News
